Omg!! You ladies get so much!!!! I'll be curious to see if I come anywhere close to that. And I have nothing frozen. Ugh! I think I'll have to start doing at least every 2.5 hours.
Pumping at work and always fighting low supply (like 1/2oz TOTAL) was one of the reasons I ended the journey with breastfeeding. Still feel a little guilty about it from time to time but I've been trying to view it as more time at my desk working means less stress and better quality time with baby girl when I go home. Kudos to those Mommas who stick it out! We gave it a 3 month run but it just didn't work out for us, I wish it would have.
@Tiffrox81 I also drink a sh*t ton of water. 100oz a day which helps supply. It's been hard to keep that up while working, but forcing myself to do it. Thankfully, I only had a small supply problem in the very beginning (my milk took a day or so to come in).
I'm working. I'm pumping 4 times a day. Drinking about 2 gallons of water per day. Maxing out on fenugreek supplements and more milk plus supplements every single day. I'm making right around 12oz per day and sending him to daycare with 12oz per day. Working mom life is TOUGH! But it's do-able. And soon enough there will be solids and more and more food and less and less pumping...
@FTM53 I'm happy to say I've always been a crazy water drinker. And I agree, the days I go big with the water I notice the best results the following day!!
I also posted this question on the Working Moms board, but I'll try here too Is anyone getting their daycare teachers anything for the holidays? If so, what are you getting them? I would like to get mine something, but I'm not sure what. Thanks ladies!
@john5111 I got namebubbles (namebubbles.com). They have freezer, microwave, dishwasher safe labels and they have laundry safe labels. Tons of different designs. Complete life saver.
@john5111 we labeled her bottles with my p-touch labeler.
@mldutton we want to get them something small. There are two teachers in the infant classroom. I might get some coffee or wine (not sure if they drink but they need it after dealing with kids all day). My sister said one weeks pay is standard but I can't afford that. We pay over $200 a week.
@sboston Standard where?! I was a teacher and if a student had gifted me anything that expensive I would not accept it! Something small and thoughtful is perfect.

Haha I have no idea. She lives in NH and I'm in mass. I think that may be true for live-in help, or for people who have a maid or butler or something. Not people like me who can barely afford daycare as it is!
Haha yea, 1 weeks pay would be out of control. I don't even get gifts that expensive! Maybe I'll start asking them more questions when I pick up LO in the afternoons to get a sense of if/where they drink coffee or go out to eat for lunch, etc. Maybe a movie theater gift card?
When my son switched rooms I gave each teacher (four of them) a B and B hand soap w my los hand w a thing that said hands down the best teacher. They loved them and it was pretty inexpensive w a cute handwritten thank u on the back. I think the thank u goes a long way.
I feel like the one week pay/cost of a single service would apply to things like home nannies, house cleaners, dog walkers....services along those lines. I think if we're talking daycare teachers a bottle of wine, Starbucks cards are more in line with what they'd expect! When I used to namny for a family during my college days, their staple gift to me was a $50 gift card to a place they picked up I was into at the time. And believe me when I say money was no object to them, but at the same time $50 was about average for what they'd pay me for a typical visit.
Me again on bottles for daycare questions lol what refrigerated bag do u use to transport your bottles? Mine we have to keep the bottles in our own bag in their fridge I have one bag already but it only fits three bottles and I need to send four just in case he'd need more to eat or didn't eat much one time ( they can't feed him the same bottle after an hour of hearing it I also have to fit an ice pack in it too
@john5111 when I was breastfeeding and transporting bottles with us when we shopped I used my lunch bag that is freezable. This is the smaller size for kids, but you get the idea. It stays cold for hours upon hours. I got my big bag at target. It held 4-5 4 oz bottles.
@FTM53 hahaha DH and I just debated doing that too!! Q was asleep and the car was so warm and comfy... but DH has a conference call right now so we had to come in. I am dreaming about my car nap right now.
I missed Elise rolling from back to her tummy today. And she won't do it for me. I won't lie, I cried a little. I knew this was a possibility, but I only work on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It's so hard missing those first moments!
@shaylalr Oh man that's tough!! Definitely one of the biggest challenges with working - accepting what you might miss. I'm sure we'll all be in your boat sooner or later. Hopefully she'll nail t again for you to see soon!!
Today is my my first official first full day back. I'm working earlier than I used to so I can be home earlier. My husband is going in later and coming home later. Leaving today was made slightly easier by leaving her hanging out with him. Hopefully the week goes by quickly.
My LO has had giggles for several weeks now...but last night she had her first legit big and long/continuous belly laugh!! It was the best sound in the world...and it was at one of the dogs twerking...hahaha (yes, I taught my dog to twerk)
It was my first day back to work it flew by when I picked him up from daycare he just screamed hysterically I felt like he hated me:(. He's happy now that we're home so hard!
Yes!! It is super hard when they scream when you drop them off or pick them up. The other day LO completely ignored me when I picked him up. I felt like a terrible mother. But then he grabbed both my cheeks and turned my head and gave me an open-mouth "kiss" on the cheek. Then I felt like a million dollars and was reminded that my son needs time to decompress from his school day just like I do from work
Our LO seemed to be cool with daycare from day 1. They have all the toys and fun colors and art/crafts and the teachers are awesome. The teachers say she doesn't really cry or fuss unless she's hungry. I think she really likes it at daycare, but she still gives me the biggest smile when she sees me come and pick her up melts my heart... @john5111 ,do you not think you're LO is used to daycare?
No he screamed when he saw me day one so felt awful he in general is a fussier baby though my first one was not was wondering how many days till they get more adjusted today he was already happier @mldutton
LO seemed to be used to it by the end of week 1. However, he is still quieter for the first 15-30min after I pick him up. I think he just needs the time to process his day (the kids, sights, sounds...). To help him, I try to not be overly kissy or loud when I get him. I just pick him up, give him a quick kiss hi, and the put him in the car. No loud music or too much talking.
Ladies...I'm struggling. My supply has pretty much halved since I started working 6 weeks ago. I used to get about 16 oz during the day and now only get 8. This morning I only pumped a measly 1.5oz on each boob (first two weeks of work I'd pump 3-4oz on each). My LO is loosing weight and I feel like a failure. I've started eating oatmeal every morning, drinking mothers milk tea, taking fenugreek, and am adding an extra pumping session at work. We've been sick in my house for 8 weeks and I'm under a bunch of other stress which I know doesn't help. Just kinda want to cry and DH doesn't get it. I feel like I'm not providing for my son. Hoping the new measures help. I'm back to officially tracking every ounce and time for pumping. We shall see.
Oh no, @FTM53!! I'm sorry to hear that. I hope those other tricks work!! Do you think it's the duration of time you're gone? Or maybe something that would have happened regardless of you pumping or nursing? I ask because I just started back at work....I've been pumping every 3 hours. I'm 3 days in but so far things seem ok. As much of a pain pumping is, I'd be totally sad if my production dropped!!
@TiffRox81 I kinda had the perfect storm of supply issues--two weeks into working, I got a plugged duct AND nipple bleb and that breast never fully recovered (lost almost an ounce). THEN, LO HATED bottles when we first started daycare and fought them for almost 4 weeks. ALSO, Both LO and I have been sick with one thing or another for 8 weeks and so LO has not been eating as much anyway (bottled or nursing), plus your supply might decrease when you're sick. And then, LO started sleeping 4-6 hours straight at night. And then, my mom was diagnosed with cancer, plus other family/work/holiday stress.
Oh oh and now at 3pm, the daycare just called and AJ is throwing up. Pediatrician says I can't nurse (pedialite only until he's not vomiting for 8 hours).
So yeah...I was pumping at least 16 until the plugged duct and 12-14 ounces until last week. If I can get back to that, I'd be happy. I'd really like LO to get between 12 and 15 oz a day while I'm gone for 9 hours.
Also think LO is either feeling better or going through a growth spurt. He has been nonstop hungry for 2 days (including waking every 1-2 hours at night). His increased nursing should help!
I'm so sorry to hear all of that happening @FTM53 ! I hope everyone starts feeling better soon and that your supply picks back up! Our LO had a cold that turned double ear infection. Put her on amoxicilin for 10 days then she got hives on the 10th day. Took her in for her 2 week check up for the ear infection, turns out the infections never went away, she had her left ear drum rupture and infectious fluid is leaking out, and she has a mild case of bronchiolitis. Plus I don't think I've been 100% healthy since like my 2nd week back at work (I'm on my 9th). This working mom thing is rough, man.
Re: October Working Moms Check-In
These are great. They come on and off easily. I use these for the bottles for daycare.
