@afkash not really, which is why I need to calm the F down. We did IVF and the RE changed to a smaller forcep thing (seriously can't think of what it's called) and said that I had a short and narrow cervix. Then my sister had an incompetent one and had to have a cerclage done. So I think it's a combination of the two that has me worried. I might mention it to the OB when I talk to her just so she knows!
That actually seems like a reasonable reason to worry. Yes definitely talk to your OB about it. I'm sure she can help you put things in perspective and hopefully you're not at a high risk.
My ultrasound tech was really nice! She talked me through all the images she was taking and let me know how each body part looked. Everything looked good and he just sucked his thumb calmly throughout the process, so we were able to get all the images the doctor needed!
Just went to a flu clinic in my office and got my preservative free flu shot. I've never gotten one before and felt like I was going to pass out; think I stopped breathing a bit there. FYI - Didn't hurt at all.
I go in a a half hour for an u/s. I have a bicornuate uterus and the MFM specialist wants me to get an u/s every 2 weeks to check the length of my cervix. Apparently they need to see it lengthen or they need to start thinking about intervention which scares me. One is just taking progesterone but I can only do that until 23 weeks and I'm 20 weeks. The other two options are surgical. Chances are it won't come to needing surgery but it's scary to think about.

TW *** I lost my twins due to an unexpected incompetent cervix. Unexpected since I carried my first pregnancy full term 40 weeks with no cervical issues. I know a lot about crap that can go wrong with your cervix now that I didn't know before.
Anyhow, the progesterone shots only help prevent preterm labor. They don't stop your cervix from shortening under pressure, if it's prone to that.
If your cervix shows signs of shortening or funneling this soon, you want a cerclage ASAP! Emergency cerclage placed after you don't have much cervix left have a much higher rate of failing.
I had a preventative cerclage placed for this pregnancy at 12.5 weeks. It was done using a spinal block, so I was awake but completely numb and couldn't feel anything. Was it a fun thing to go through? No. But if you need one, get one sooner rather than later.
@leslie1331 incompetent cervix can definitely run in families! If your sister had it, I would totally tell your doctor and ask for cervical length checks. They usually need to do the transvaginal (internal) ultrasound to accurately measure your cervical length. Those at risk usually get it checked every two weeks, because it can change fast.
@FreshBakedBrownies I'm so sorry for your loss. Thank you for all of the information. The MFM doc said my bicornuate uterus could make the cervix shorten which is why I'm getting an u/s every 2 weeks at this point. Thankfully right now the length is looking good but she said it needs to be monitored because it could change and then I'd need a cerclage if they start to see that happen.
@FreshBakedBrownies Thank you!!! I am going to call the office tomorrow and make sure they know about my sister. I know I told the RE, but I don't think I ever told my OB. I am more than happy to go in every two weeks just to make sure!
OB called me back today. She said the a/s showed my cervix was 4.8 cm which is a great measurement. She did say since my sister had the cerclage done, they would start to so cervical measurements at my next appointment just to be on the safe side. Now I can relax. A little more
