After ovulation each month (and IUI) my OB has me doing progesterone 100mg each day (the pills that I insert vaginally.) My question is after having 3 early losses if I should consider increasing the dosage and was wondering what you all take for progesterone/when/how often you take it? If you do a higher dose, did any of you find more significant symptoms? Thanks
I've never had a loss but it is protocol at my RE office to take 100mg of the suppositories twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night. Progesterone supps are the devil lol. It will give you every early pregnancy symptom you can think of. The first two cycles I was on it, they made my nipples hurt. Then the last two cycles they didn't. All four cycles (so far) have my cramping. Usually by the end of taking them the symptoms disappeared. I would follow your doctors advice. They will (should) be checking your progesterone before during and middle of your cycle. If it's low they'll up your dose!
After all 3 IUIs I did 200mg (just 1 pill) at bedtime starring on the 3rd day post-IUI. I would definitely ask about increasing your dose or possible doing progesterone in oil (PIO) injections. I've found that you really have to take your treatment in your own hands and ask the questions. Good luck!
@mrsdaddario. You're so right! I have learned to not look for ANY early pregnancy symptoms because of how tricky progesterone is! I've only been seeing my OB for all of this (she has done all my tests and IUI's) and she has only checked my progesterone during my betas with all my losses. It might be time to see a specialist or RE.
@mtpbadger Did you find you were tired during the day from taking the morning one?
@Bai-by2016 I'm definitely going to ask about the one pill of 200mg a day!
@sugaar73 not that I noticed. I did set my alarm to go off earlier than normal though, get up, put it in, and then lay back down for a half hour or so. Otherwise sometimes it was a lot messier if I put it in and was walking around right away.
I took 100mg twice a day after my first IUI and then 200mg twice a day after my second and third IUIs. When I was doing 400mg a day I was so tired all the time.
like @bai-by2016 I did one 200 mg capsule before bedtime (vaginally) during my previous medicated and IUI cycles... but this time around my RE gave me oral progesterone, which is only 100 mg (one at bedtime). I honestly haven't noticed any difference in side effects between the 2 different doses, or method of taking it... The only thing that changed was the convenience factor (oral definitely won that!).. If you're doubting it, don't be afraid to ask your doc about it. But honestly, I would see an RE... Getting you KU is their specialty Good luck!!
