Re: **Please Read FIRST*** Daily Threads/Board Organization

  • Maybe because I came from the TTGP board, but the sheer amount of threads on this board overwhelms me.  I like the weekly chatter because it's one place I can go to, instead of sorting through all the other threads.  I'm just really used to like three new threads a day.  But that's just mho.

  • I'm not sure how or if we can even go about making this sort of change since the rules were set very early on. I know I don't come on this board much because it's hard to navigate a 100+ post thread. But I totally understand if people want to keep it that way!

  • Are we able to create a new post with a poll?
  • Are we able to create a new post with a poll?
I'm not really sure how a poll will resolve this, someone will lose either way.  I really see both sides and waiver back and forth a lot.  Honestly, the dynamic will work itself out. It always does on BMBs, now other boards maintain either free for all posts or rigidity and that's fine, but BMBs are just kind of up in the air until the dynamic works itself out.

I've also been on TB since 2010, and none of my BMBs have been as organized as TTGP and such, it's just always been a free for all.

like @thankfully, I'll just read what I want and scroll past what I don't want to read.

yeah good point, I'll do the same. I was in the N15 board and I don't remember it having so many rules and such about this! haha

I do love a good poll, though. ;)

No need for a rule change, the "rules" were set by individuals on this board and aren't part of TOS. I'm admittedly old school and dislike the 7 page posts, but I understand that some like it because they're used to it from their old board. I say to each their own. If I have something that pops up that I want to talk about, I'm going to post. I think things will organically slide into place as time goes on.

  • They are just guidelines that have worked for many other BMBs, not rules. Anyone is free to start any thread they want, but a lot of ladies prefer that they pertain to the entire group and are conversation started and are not "Dear Diary" threads or questions that could be easily be posted somewhere else. That's what the guidelines even suggest before the suggested threads.

The only one I don't love is the pregnancy chatter one. It gets way too long and to expect a newbie to read through 6 pages (or more, by the end of the week) before posting their question isn't very cool to me. I like the more specific weekly threads like "symptoms", "weekly appointments", "weekly randoms", and one weekly GTKY thread. We have had too many GTKY too early on, IMO. I want to sorta kinda recognize names before I learn what they do for a living, etc.
Yes! I cant keep up with that disorganized thread. I'd love to be able to just post questions.

  • I'm just going to reiterate what has already been said, which is that more specific threads can be cool, as long as there aren't 4 on the same topic within a couple days of each other. There just really doesn't need to be a separate thread for each person that's experiencing morning sickness or fatigue because many of us are feeling it at this point. If there's a ton of threads on the exact same topics, I don't see how that's any more beneficial than one longer thread just because there aren't as many pages. I was introduced to the Bump through TTGP, which has a level of structure that perhaps others are uncomfortable with, but I think there's a healthy middle ground for both points of view. Ultimately it's the internet and of course folks will do what they want but I imagine this conversation is happening in part because we care about building a community that we can enjoy and benefit from, which will take compromise.

  • Quick question, not sure of this is the right place to ask and this is the first online community I've joined- so please excuse my ignorance. Can someone please tell me what the bubbles indicate next to our usernames? I though that they were the number of comments and likes we've given, but mine are stuck at 2 and I've posted way more than that. It's no big deal, but I'm just curious!
  • @kcrocetto27 They're achievement badges.  You get them when you've hit certain milestones.  The 2 comment circle means you've made 10 comments.  The 2 heart circle means you've gotten 25 love-its. If you hover over them on a desktop, the meanings appear.
