1st Trimester

What were your HCG levels around week 8?

Mine were 185,000+ at 8 weeks, which is apparently quite high, so I have an ultrasound on Thursday. We're hoping its so high because of twins!

What were your hcg levels around week 8 and did you end up having a single or multiples?

Re: What were your HCG levels around week 8?

  • I went to the er last night. I thought I was 6 weeks but my hcg was 260,000! She said it was just one baby but that I am actually 9 weeks but those numbers were still quite high. I'm hoping to get more information and actually get to see the ultrasound at my appointment next Tuesday.
  • The only time I got my numbers (because I never asked) was at 8 weeks. They were over 190 and I have just one. High levels doesn't indicate multiples unless you went through fertility treatments, so don't get your hopes up.

  • HCG numbers have no bearing on whether you're having twins or not, there is massive variability in what is considered "normal" for HCG levels. Twin pregnancies can have normal-for-a-singleton levels, and singleton pregnancies can have super heigh levels, only an ultrasound can tell you how many babies you are pregnant with. From americanpregnancy.org:

hCG levels in weeks from LMP (gestational age):

    • 3 weeks LMP: 5 – 50 mIU/ml
    • 4 weeks LMP: 5 – 426 mIU/ml
    • 5 weeks LMP: 18 – 7,340 mIU/ml
    • 6 weeks LMP: 1,080 – 56,500 mIU/ml
    • 7 – 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 – 229,000 mIU/ml
    • 9 – 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 – 288,000 mIU/ml
    • 13 – 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 – 254,000 mIU/ml
    • 17 – 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 – 165,400 mIU/ml
    • 25 – 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 – 117,000 mIU/ml
So as you can see, you're well within the norm for eight weeks.

  • I only got my betas drawn at 4 weeks but assuming that they only doubled every 72 hrs since then, I would be at the higher end of the hcg range above. I'm only expecting one. While your numbers seem really high,  they are not really that high for 8 weeks.  But if you want twins,  fx tht's what you get.
