Other than heartburn being forever present, I've been dealing with insomnia the last few nights. I keep waking up at 4 and can't get myself back to sleep until at least 5:30. My husband's alarm goes off at 6 and DS is up by 6:30.

My only symptom is STILL battling morning sickness. I can't wait for it to end. I wanted to call in sick this morning just to stay in bed and be nauseous instead of getting 3 kids ready and out the door at 6:30am!

Sore nipple area, RLP, and random zingy pains going through my um "hoo-ha" every now and then lol. I may have had Braxton Hicks yesterday, but I think it was more that I needed water since I felt better after 2 bottles of water. I usually do 8-12 cups a day of fluids, but by 4pm yesterday had only had 4 cups b/c of a really bad and busy day at work. Oh, and def more hunger...gotta feed this 1/2 lb little baby girl <3:)

Can I ask a sort of symptom related questions? I have asthma/allergies, which are normally very well controlled day to day. As long as I avoid triggers and take my allergy meds, I'm good.

However, DH gave me his cold which turned into a sinus/respiratory infection last week. Now, due to all the congestion my asthma has been flaring up. We've been doing all we can to help it stay under control without the emergency inhaler/nebulizer (steaming the shower, vapor rub, etc), but I've still had to use my inhaler twice this week. My doctor would only say, "You have to breathe, so if you need the inhaler you have to use it." When I asked about the risks of the inhaler or nebulizer.

I've done some googling, but all I find is stuff about daily albuterol use, nothing about risks and safety on occasional use.

Do any of you ladies have asthma, and if so how are you handling the meds? Has your doctor given you any other safety info?

I plan to ask again at my appointment next Monday, but I was hoping some of you might have more info in the mean time.

What I thought was sciatic pain may actually be hip pain (although, I do think it started with sciatica). I'm so uncomfortable. I don't go back to the doctor (MFM) until next week, but I'll definitely ask her about it. Other than that, just some
RLP. My appetite seems to be coming back, so that's a little exciting  :D

@WinchesterGirl Oh no!  I have both allergies and asthma. I take Zyrtec and Singular daily but I still have an emergency inhaler and a nebulizer machine. I would still talk to your doctor, but I have used both of those several times throughout this pregnancy so far. To me, it's been better to use that than let it get to the point of an asthma attack and then getting put on steroids (which happened in my 5th week of pregnancy). I hope you feel better soon! Also please let me know if you find any other home remedies that seem to work before having to use the inhaler! I am dreading this cold season.

I've been having hip/back issues this week too. Also thought it was sciatic pain, but with some more research I don't think it is any longer-more hips and alignment issues. I finally caved and made an app with a chiropractor that specializes in prenatal care/manipulation.  Maybe something like that would help you too??

I feel like the baby is still soooo low and we had sex last night and I felt like my uterus was like halfway down in my vagina. It was different and pretty uncomfortable, never experienced that with either kid before. Makes sense though because anytime I feel movement it's down by my pubic bone and my hip and lower back pain is awful. I hope things shift upwards soon.

18 wks over here and I get constant lower back pain when I sleep. A pillow between my knees and behind my back helps but I'm constantly waking up in pain still. switching sides helps temporarily. Considering sucking it up and getting a pregnancy pillow... the body pillow isn't cutting it.

@WinchesterGirl I have asthma! Mine flares up in relation to the temperature fluctuating during the seasonal changes. So for a month now, I've been taking a puffer twice a day for 3 weeks.

Ive had asthma my whole life and the doctor isn't worried. The benefits outweigh the risks.

I think its perfectly fine for you to take your puffer when needed as long as you respect the doses

@WinchesterGirl my OB cleared me to use albuterol as needed when I was having an attack.  I was sick at the beginning which turned in to a whole asthma thing and was on a regular steroid inhaler and albuterol as needed.  I was taking the albuterol almost daily at first but am not only taking it when I really need it.

@Gretchypoo. I'm a huge fan of my Yogibo body pillow. It's a microbead pillow that I sleep with year round <3 more full than a regular pillow so it keeps my knees farther apart, and havnt had any pain this pregnancy.  Maybe something to look into if you want to buy something new, but don't want to just have something for pregnancy?

@Gretchypoo - I got a Leachco Sleeper Keeper from Walmart. I luv it! And hubby tries to steal it...lol

@Gretchypoo  I second the Leachco! The U shape makes it much easier to switch sides, and the padding between my knees is great. And @BlondePeanut YUP, DH loves it. He's usually asleep when I leave for work, and last week I had to run back in for my sunglasses and found him completely snuggled up in it. Cursing myself for not getting a picture.

Is anyone else having nutso insomnia? The hip pain has gone away, but now I just lie there not sleeping. I'm considering trying Unisom, or whatever is safe.

@lfrank12 & @Starfish113 I am so glad to hear that! I found several studies online that were all fairly negative, but all they covered was daily use.

I agree its better to not let it progress to the point of an attack, so I have used the inhaler twice this week. I just worry about every new thing... is this ok? Is this going to hurt the baby? FTM nerves are no joke.

ETA: Just saw @concreteangell & @CurlyCupcake21 responses. Thank you ladies! I don't know why my OB did not give more information when I asked, if all of yours are saying it is ok. I will definitely mention it to her again at my next appointment!

I don't use an inhaler and I don't want to be an alarmist, but this story about a mom whose inhaler gave her a false positive for meth might warrant a call to your doctor: https://narrative.ly/i-went-to-the-hospital-to-give-birthand-tested-positive-for-meth/

@WinchesterGirl I'm okay once I get up but it is really hurting my sleep! I don't wanna spend $50 on a pillow! *whine*

@Gretchypoo I know, the prices on these pillows are insane, but... I've got just shy of 22 weeks left, so, I am justifying it as under $3 a week for my happiness and lack of back pain. :grimace:

@Gretchypoo I grabbed one off craigslist for $10. You can get a new pillow cover, and I used the 'really nice house' filter. As in, unless they lived in a really nice house, I didn't want it :)

I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep using the snoogle after pregnancy, especially when DH goes out of town.  It's great to snuggle up with and really has kept my back pain to lower levels.  I am definitely in the worth every penny camp.

Do you guys think the snoogle is hard to use in Queen sized bed?  My husband and I aren't overly large and we have two dogs in the bed, but they are 9 lb shih tzus, so they don't really take up much space.  But, when I look online it looks enormous!  That's been my only hesitation of not getting one, I don't want to be falling off the bed!
  • Options
+1 to the snoogle. I've used it on the couch a bit when I'm on my laptop...wrapped it around my back and then under my knees. It is so comfy, I definitely see using this totally awkwardly shaped pillow post pregnancy as well. And the dog snuggles with it are SO CUTE!

I don't know how people cope with the U pillow. The tiny bit of the snoogle that closes off my access to the bed is hard enough to crawl over in the middle of the night when I need to pee. Having to crawl over a full pillow may just be the death of me.

Two symptoms I've been struggling with and thought I'd share some solutions I've found:

    1. ACNE! Ugh! It's been a pill! However, I read that sulfur is okay to combat it during pregnancy and there is a Peter Thomas Roth Therapeutic Sulfur Masque that you can purchase from Sephora! It's been really helping!

    2. Constipation/irregular bowels: Eat some Chia seeds! They're these little specks that look like poppyseed but are tasteless/odorless and really you barely notice them (unless you let them sit and gel for a long time). I've mixed 1-2 Tbs. into a smoothie or sprinkled them on a salad to stick to the dressing and it's really helped get things moving consistently every morning! They're really good for you too!

The heartburn is still INSANE :-( I usually am taking at least 1-2 Tums every day and those aren't thoroughly beating it. I heard today that a glass of milk can help. I tried it. It made the pain less severe, but it still hasn't thoroughly gone away. Any advice for natural remedies is greatly appreciated!

@leslie1331 - I feel like the snoogle marks my half of our queen sized bed pretty nicely.  DH and I are both slightly larger and we have two 45 lbs dogs who like to sleep with us.  The pillow takes up some room, but with me all nestled in it, I don't know if it's that much more than I take up myself.

@Patience7150 - Totally agree with the climbing over the snoogle to pee.  I put the full side on the outside edge of the bed and usually end up crawling under it because I'm all tied up with blankets and dogs and can't get my legs to the top of the pile.

@leslie1331 Yeah, you might have to get creative. We have a queen, and we're not wide but we're both tall, and it does get a little dicey, especially if H is already asleep when I get into bed. I like the U-shape because I'm a flopper, but if you can consistently sleep on one side all night, a single body pillow might be fine.

I've started to notice some tingling in my left leg, and even a little numbness when I stand for a long time. I googled it and it sounds like it's normal, but I'll mention it at my appointment this week.
Other than that, not really any new symptoms. I've been feeling pretty good except I'm getting ANOTHER cold! :(

So not sure if this is a symptom or a random.....but I had a semi-melt down last night with a few tears. I was sobbing and saying how I love my baby girl so much and I want her to have everything and we need to go buy it all now and going on and on lol. My FIL was like "honey, you are having a shower, you will get what you need. Not to mention you already have a crib and stroller. It's gonna be ok!" I was like BUT I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!! lmao....attack of the hormones I guess.

I've been getting headaches like whoa lately and sometimes they are progressing to migraines.  Ugh.  I've also started with waves of nausea which is weird because I didn't have any MS in the first tri at all.  Oh and my favorite is random things that make me gag.  Lately it'll be things in the bathroom sink like when it was clogged or today when it smelled like mouthwash.

Using your inhaler is better than having to go on systemic steroids.
    1. Using inhaler, will hopefully prevent you from going into all out asthma attack.

    2. The steroids in the inhaler are pretty confined to just your lungs rather than your entire blood supply.

Also, if you're having to use your rescue inhaler everyday, that definitely means your asthma is not under control and you need to see your doctor to update your care plan.
Which maintenance inhaler are you using? I'm on Singulair, Zyrtec, and Symbicort.

ETA: Are you seeing an asthma specialist or just your OB/PCP? I highly recommending an asthma specialist, if you can.  Mine is thebomb.com. He knows a lot more than my OB or PCP would.

I have had chronic migraines for YEARS, so I know all the tricks.  When you get one, make sure you put ice on the back of your neck, like at the base of your skull.   And put it towards the side you have it on.  That really numbs a lot of the pain out to at least take the edge off.

I have always had really bad seasonal and indoor allergies, but usually Zyrtec keeps them in check. I cut my dose down to 5mg (half a pill) early in pregnancy because it was enough to keep them from getting bad, but this week they have been TERRIBLE - like I am not taking anything at all. I think it's time to go back to a full dose. I feel like I am constantly stuffy and itchy.

Other than that, I've definitely been dealing with round ligament pain this week. Mainly when I am sitting and stand up too fast, I get a weird muscle spasm/cramp across the top of my uterus. And then on my walk last night, about 30 minutes in, I started getting a cramp-like pain from my groin up to my abdomen on the right side. It was more uncomfortable than anything, and it went away after a few minutes. Sometimes when I am lying in bed and I sneeze (because allergies), I get a super sharp, almost burning pain on one side or the other that goes away almost immediately. Usually when I feel a sneeze coming I try to curl my legs up, because that helps, but once in a while a sneeze comes before I can prepare. It sucks.

I've had incessant migraines and tummy problems the past few days. Like I've been pooping 4+ times a day. Sorry for the tmi. I think it's because I got to excited for fall and downed a gallon of apple cider in three days. I'm definitely paying for my impulsiveness now.

I've had headaches daily for four days now. The shortness of breath is just ridiculous. I bought some iron supplements today wondering if I'm a little anemic at this point. I'll definitely try out the chia seeds because I'm always on the verge of constipation. I've also lost my libido! I'm so disappointed because it was so much higher in the late first early second trimesters.
