@hezzer78@contrarationem I was on board the Benedict not attractive train, but then I saw this scene in Sherlock and there's just something about him now!
@Jkp7749 fwiw I'm really glad you stated your opinion! That's what UO is all about. I was surprised it was even a UO, quite frankly, and I expect that actually a lot of silent people agree with that opinion. I hope people still keep giving real UOs on UO Thursday, even if it means firing up folks who disagree. That is the whole point. My perpetual UO is that I don't like UOs that are not actually unpopular (i.e. if someone had posted here that their UO is that sex =/= gender. Clearly not a UO at this point.) I think it's great that you and @emilyalso (and really it started with emilyalso) chose a real UO that caused a bit of a kerfuffle.
The other thing I was going to say is that thebump is WAY more civil than it used to be, which I think is definitely an improvement. But I hope that it also means we can get along even when we disagree!
My UO is that my partner and I don't need a car to figure out how to navigate pregnancy and parenthood.
We've always used public transportation, cabs/uber, and walked. It goes without saying that our mobility is limited. This lifestyle has always been a huge UO with nearly all of our family members. We live in a city with a good public transportation system. Am I terrified something will happen and we won't get the baby (or one of us) to the doctor fast enough? Of course. Am I being irresponsibly? Idk, depends on one's point of view. Don't I wish I had more freedom to go on a spontanous drive to the coast or to be able to buy more groceries and home goods than I can physically carry? Yeah, sometimes. Yes. It's something we are working on, but neither of us ever got a license (for a lot of reasons I don't feel like going into right now) it probably won't be a reality in the next 9 months.
There! I said it. It's so taboo to not drive in America.
@tumbleweed i don't drive either and go around using public transportation. In larger cities you can totally make it. And if anything we have Uber now, so i wouldn't worry about getting places for emergencies so much - they're always so close.
@tumbleweed We don't have a car either. It can be a challange with a toddler having to cycle everywhere, or having to rely on public transportation. But it has all worked out fine, and we don't plan on buying a car when this child is born. Ofcourse we live in Scandinavia, where this lifestyle is perhabs more common than in the US.
@tumbleweed@contrarationem@Anna2091 We have a car but where we live (suburbs) everyone has two cars and we are the odd ones out with just one. I am very in support of non-car families! We have always used transit more than other people we know. If it weren't for the schools we'd live in the city as well.
I stated my opinion, yall stated yours, move on. You won't change my opinion and I'm not going to change yours but I sure hope this board doesn't turn out like the jan. Board. I said they argued about everything and one of the heated topics was gender vs sex reveals, I think it's ridiculous to argue so much and get so heated esp over something so dumb as what you call a party, I did not call Transgender people ridiculous. Reread my comment if you need to. I also think it's crazy how people can't actually gave an opinion anymore.
So basically what you want is a public diary in which we all state what we are up to and think but no one actually interacts and has discussions and debates? I think this is one of the best threads I've seen on this board so far. Not because there was argument but because there was actually interaction amongst our members. I've noticed a lot of our board up until recently hasn't included much real interaction. I loved the conversation here. If you've been on the bump before then you know the standard saying, "you can't dictate how people respond" nor can you tell people to be done discussing something (very eloquently I may add.) just because you don't like the path the direction took. You can of course remove yourself but others are free to still discuss.

@contrarationem and @Anna2091 I'm glad I'm not the only one. It certainly feels like it sometimes. I come from a big car family (auto work is what many of the men in my family do and we were raised around it), so it's kind of a black sheep thing that I don't drive. With my SO's family, he gets treated like he isn't a real adult & that we can't possibly manage on our own. @kat81 thanks for your support too. It was really nice to come back on here this morning and see encouragement.
Also, I am a big supporter of gender fluidity and transgender rights. With the group I grew up with and such that is not too popular of an opinion. But I have seen lives change for the better. I think everyone deserves to be happy.
Also don't see the appeal of "Eggs Benedict" Cumberbatch. Glad to see I'm not the only one!
My UO. I like dogs better than people (which is why I work with them). Dogs live in the moment and can be happy with the simplest things. People just stress me out most of the time!
I love that we established gender =/=sex early. I got a little nervous when I read the first post.
My UO (not really a UO but it didn't go over well in another group) is that I hate how a lot of Genital Reveals are done. Pink and Blue stuff doesn't bother me so much. They're colors, whatever. Cut into a blue cake all you want. But I saw one that was "Future Teacher" or "Future Scientist" (in their defense, it was the parents' careers, still didn't make sense) and several that were "Football Player" or "Cheerleader". I always say a little prayer that it's a boy who grows up to be a bada$$ cheerleader. It kind of makes me want to do a reveal when I open the box and a giant penis balloon flies out. Those I know exist... is there such a thing as a vagina balloon?

I’m a modern man, a man for the millennium. Digital and smoke free. A diversified multi-cultural, post-modern deconstruction that is anatomically and ecologically incorrect. I’ve been up linked and downloaded, I’ve been inputted and outsourced, I know the upside of downsizing, I know the downside of upgrading. I’m a high-tech low-life. A cutting edge, state-of-the-art bi-coastal multi-tasker and I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond! I’m new wave, but I’m old school and my inner child is outward bound. I’m a hot-wired, heat seeking, warm-hearted cool customer, voice activated and bio-degradable. I interface with my database, my database is in cyberspace, so I’m interactive, I’m hyperactive and from time to time I’m radioactive.
@JCWhitey if there aren't vagina baloons there needs to be! Love that idea. With our sex reveal I just celebrated my birthday invited friends and we told them what we were having at dinner, boring but nice at the same time.
Re: UO Thursday (9-15)
(I feel like i'm butting into gender vs sex discussion)
Huge hugs!!
@jatwal128 Genital reveal - brilliant! Love it!
@contrarationem Totally agree about ol' Benedict! Don't understand the appeal there at all.
