Belly button

I'm 22 weeks and my belly button has popped completely since about 17 weeks. My first two pregnancies I didn't pop, just became more flat towards the end. But this time it sticks out maybe half an inch or more!! It's crazy!

I almost wish I could cover it, with a bandaid (but I have a skin condition and bandaids can give me blisters) or something else.

Anyone else have a super-early fully popped belly button, lol!

Re: Belly button

  • Me! This is my third. It seriously popped out around 15 weeks. Super crazy and there is no way to hide it. Even if I did a band aid I think it would probably just accentuate it more.

It must be the third pregnancy! So nuts! :-)
  • Lol this is my second and my belly button popped at 12 weeks this time! Next time it'll be at 6 weeks I swear... didn't pop at all until well into the third trimester last time!

  • I feel like mine is going to pop but probably not until third tri. Is it super uncomfortable when it does? I hate having anyone touch inside my belly button...  so I'm terrified of it popping for fear that it'll just be painful.
  • I can't wait for mine to pop. I think it's so cute and makes me feel and look more pregnant. Mine popped around 32 weeks last time.
  • I'm a FTM and also concerned with it being uncomfortable when/if it pops.  I mean, can you feel it when the randos start touching your belly?  I still have an innie, but it's definitely getting stretched.  I also love how easy it's getting to clean though.
  • Mine is at a weird in-between stage where it's still an innie, but looks deformed and undecided!

Ditto! I'm expecting it to go any time now, it's all flat and strange looking right now
  • @canavara @aishmc It's never been painful for me, but now that you mention it, that usually is a sensitive area, so that's bizarre that it's not!

Mine isn't painful, but it does feel kind of weird if people touch it. That wasn't really something I had to worry about last time, but DD is in a phase right now where she's obsessed with belly buttons and mine is now the coolest one ever (in her mind, anyway haha) so she's constantly trying to lift up my shirt so she can touch it.  Or pull down my shirt so she can squeeze my boobs. Ahhh... life with a toddler...

  • Mine hasn't popped and/or flattened out quite yet, however, I can see the back of my belly button! It is so close to the front. It is a lot more tender than usual and I think I would be very uncomfortable if someone where to touch my belly button. I almost feel as if that skin is a lot thinner? My fiancée tried to stick his finger in my belly button as a joke the other day and I was like woah, woah hands off the belly button you weirdo!

  • Mine is half popped, and has been that way for a few weeks now.  I love being able to really clean it.  Also, it doesn't hurt at all when it pops.  The skin from inside it is a bit more sensitive than the surrounding skin, but it is otherwise normal.

  • Anyone in the camp of considering using bandaids for the sensitive popped belly buttons: you could try kinesiology tape (kt tape, rock tape, etc) to cover it. I've used it for running but it can stay on for 4-5 days through showering and whatnot.

Lol to the bolded! My DD did this the other day. Stuck her hand down my shirt, squeezed a couple times and said, "I like your boobies, Mommy." It was so hard to keep a straight face and just say, thank you sweetie.

  • My belly button is flattening out, but still hanging in there. I find the whole area around my belly button sore at times.

My biggest issue is taking out my belly button ring. DH is driving me crazy to take it out now. The doctor simply said to keep an eye on it for irritation, migration, and infection. I just don't want to part with it yet! I need to look into the clear/stretchy options I've seen for pregnant women. Anyone familiar with using these inserts?
  • Mine is half popped I'd say.  Popped on the top but not on the bottom. It looks really strange.  @karaelaine1991, my toddler is really noticing my chest too.  She occasionally says "Mommy, your boobies are humongous!"  Which is such a silly word to hear her say.

  • Am I a weirdo in the fact that mine never popped last time and I don't think it's going to this time? Maybe I have some strange, deep belly button?

  • @emy730 This is my first but I do not think mine will pop. I have the deepest belly button in the world and can't really ever see the bottom of it... it might be a little less deep but I am having a really hard time believing that it will pop.

  • I have been wondering if mine would pop for a few weeks now.  It's clearly shallow and some days I can clearly see both 'holes' from my late teens/ early 20s belly button ring, but it is still an innie.  Sounds like the varied times for the pop to happens means I could be on belly button watch for the rest of my pregnancy- but I kind of hope it pops.

  • Belly buttons are making me giggle right now. They are just too funny! Mine is no where near popping. Like it's exactly the same still. Lol.
  • @emy730 @susykat77  Mine never popped with my first pregnancy either. I may be in the minority here, but I was never eager for that to happen so I was completely fine with it not popping. I'm hoping it doesn't this time around either.
  • @curlysue22 @LastMango lol I'm pretty sure that if DD could talk a bit more she'd say something along those lines!

Mine never popped with my first pregnancy. I'm wondering if it will this time. Any Third time moms have this happen with subsequent pregnancies but not the first?

I will say that the area around my belly button got super stretched out and was never the same again after delivery :(

  • I'm not sure if mine will pop either. It seems to have gotten smaller in terms of circumference, but is still pretty deep. I know it's changed in size because I have a scar from having a mole removed from inside my belly button (like on the wall) a few years ago. The scar is now completely outside my belly button, but I still can't see the bottom of the cavity. I'm interested to see how this goes over the next few months though.
