Premature ovulation during IVF cycle

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced inadvertent early ovulation during IVF stims and was wondering about the outcome.  I had 17 almost mature follicles and was planned for a retrieval Sunday and ovulated sometime between Thursday and Friday.  This is my fourth IVF cycle and this had never happened before. My husband came home from a business trip Thursday and not having any restrictions on activity...well...let's just say I've now ovulated 17 follicles with a husband with a normal sperm count.  My RE doesn't seem too concerned about it which kind of surprises me.  I have to say that I'm pretty scared about the potential outcome. Anyone have any similar experiences?

  That would terrify me as well! I'm surprised your clinic didn't say to use condoms after a certain point in your stims. We're supposed to abstain or use condoms after stim day 6.

@monica54321 In retrospect, I think it was strange I was never advised to do barrier contraception and asked my RE about it...she said that since the chances of this happening were 1-2% that they generally don't see the need.  

@kirasmart I suspect you didn't really read my post....being through four IVFs, multiple IUIs and also four years of medical school, I'm pretty clear on what happens during ovulation and when it occurs.  And it most definitely bothers me.

That kind of inadvertent early ovulation happened somewhat recently to someone on the August-Sept IVF board; I think it was due to an unusual reaction to the Ganirelix. So it's very much rare but you're not alone. 

Fingers very crossed that you don't end up with a super high multiple pregnancy. I'm so sorry for the stressful TWW ahead of you.

@cato99 Thanks.  I'm just hoping one may stick.  Not optimistic but hoping.

Wow what a number, do u know how many were close to being mature?  All 17?  What a great story this would make...really hope you see a BFP!!  I'm in the middle of an IVF cycle with a large follie on the right that they say is left over so I was concerned with ovulating early myself.

@Hopeful_mom  My E2 was only 1200 so I think that alot of follicles were probably empty.  I think 4-5 were close to being mature and they were pushing the laggers to see how many they could get.  I'm crossing my fingers that something magical will happen....magical but not dangerous.  

My next cycle I'm going to insist on daily blood tests...I was going every other day which for me, just wasn't enough.  I also worried about this happening.

@radmom27 I literally found out yesterday that I ovulated early despite being on Ganirelix for several days. I asked my re about any of them being mature since my largest on Wednesday was 13 mm. She said it may have matured enough but none of the others were.

 I hope it works out for you. It is very unlikely that there will be an issue. Consider the likelihood that all 17 were mature enough or even had eggs in them to be ovulated, that they were of good enough quality to be viable, and enough sperm made it to fertilize them. I'm not trying to scare you, but the probability of all that being the case seems very unlikely. I'm a numbers girl. With all this being said, I know it is scary to consider.  Please keep us updated.

@Kp214 I'm so sorry that this happened to you too.  It looks like we are in the 2-5% of people in which this occurs.  Ugh.

I'm freaking out less about a high order multiple pregnancy...it's so unlikely with my history that any of these eggs are going to be good.  

It's just so hard to go through the stims and be almost at the end and have this happen.  So much work for nothing.  I'm so sorry about your cycle.

@radmom27 I completely understand. I'm very sorry about your cycle.  This never happened to me before either.

  I'm glad you are less freaked out. It is so frustrating to go through all of this and be so close. I'm getting to the point to expect the unexpected every cycle.

 My eggs are also an issue. I hope that you are successful. While I know it is unlikely for me to be successful this time, I am keeping my fingers crossed that you are.  17 is a better chance of one making it than just one. Hang in there. You sound like you have a great plan in case you need it for next cycle.   Have you had or will have a discussion with your re about how to prevent this next time?

@Kp214 I did talk to my RE about it and we hope to do twice a day Cetrotide/Ganrilex and/or try triggering earlier in the future.  

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

@Kp214 @radmom27 So I ovulated early on Ganirelix, actually went in for my ER and they found no eggs, devastating! I wonder if something was off with a batch of Ganirelix...just seems weird all of us at the same time.

I tried a microdose flare protocol using Lupron instead of Ganirelix and guess what happened? You got it, ovulated too soon again.

I'm in the depths of despair, honestly. I would love to know if you're RE's come up with anything that may work. I'm not even going to consider trying again until December, my mental health just can't even right now.

@KirstenCas I'm so sorry. I understand about dealing with it mentally. It's rough. My nurse said that my re may decide to do a morning and afternoon dose of Ganirelix. I, too, wondered if it was a bad batch of medicine. I did ok on lupron. Just felt like it might have over suppressed me. Good luck to you. If you find a protocol that works, please let me know.

@KirstenCas I'm so sorry this has happened to you twice!!!  It's pretty devastating to go through so much to have nothing to even hope for.  Hopefully I will meet with my RE early next week to discuss next steps.

Did you have any signs of early ovulation? I've got some egg white CM going on today (like I normally do when I O) and it's freaking me out a bit. I'm on day 6 of stims right now.

@Monica54321  YES!!!  I had the egg white mucus and told my doctor that I thought I was ovulating...she reassured me that my numbers from that particular day were fine and that there were not signs I was ovulating.  Apparently, I ovulated the next day.

Ergh... I'm having some ovulation type pinches today, along with the EW CM yesterday... making me feel nervous.  Hoping I've just got myself paranoid... guess we'll find out at the ultrasound tomorrow.

@Monica54321 I'm sure it's OK...this whole premature ovulation thing is pretty uncommon...although I would tell your RE that you're feeling ovulation stuff and see if maybe they want to do daily testing.  In retrospect, that's what I wish I would have done.
