Equipment for 2

i currently have 2 children aged 7 years and 13 months. I'm expecting my 3rd in May and know I'm at least going to need a double stroller. Can anyone help me with brands and what worked for them with an infant and a toddler ?

Re: Equipment for 2

  • City Select is awesome for different ages.

  • I really like the Graco Ready2Grow click connect double stroller. It is also great for different ages. I like that it is slimmer than a side by side stroller.

City select is by far the best. I love ours and with baby 3 on the way it has a skateboard attachment for my oldest

    That sounds so flippin awesome!!
  • I have an uppababy for my 14 month old and will convert to double stroller once new baby arrives. It's great all I need is to buy the rumble seat to make it into a double. Or use the carseat and toddler seat or bassinet and toddler seat. I love my stroller
  • I have a problem  (or obsession) with strollers.so far we've had 3 double strollers. My favorite is the Chicco Cortina. Lightweight and great for two or just one kid. Definitely one I recommend checking out.

  • Does the City Select fit through doorways? I didn't have to do a double stroller before since my first two are so far apart in age.
    Me: 33   DH: 42
    DD: 6
    DS: 2
  • I've been researching double strollers as well. Many people I know with the city select love it. I have a city elite and I love that but its just a single, it really is good quality brand. Its definitely not cheap, but I will be trying to get a city select too. My SIL was told by an associate at Buy buy baby, to make a registry with an earlier due date and put the stroller on there. Then when it passes the due date you get the registry completion coupon and it can be used on the city select. No other coupon will work for the stroller, that's the only way. They also have sales where you get the 2nd seat free. So I have made my registry and when I get my coupon I will hold out for the free seat sale!

Also, I have been looking at used ones on Craigs list. But people are asking a lot for them. I can get a brand new one for a little bit more with the coupon and sale.

My SIL actually bought the stroller with the free seat and then waited for her registry completion coupon and brought in her receipt and they gave her money back. Kind of backwards but It worked.

yes the city select fits through doorways.

  • I'll have a 22 month old when this baby arrives. I don't know how often i'd actually use a double stroller. The only time I can think of is vacations...because wouldn't it be easier to wear one and have one in the cart when shopping/going for walks? I'm just not trying to spend extra money on something we'll rarely use.  I could be totally wrong though.

My older daughter is 20months older than my younger one, and we do use the double stroller a lot. When we are out shopping, yes, wearing one while the other rides, or having the bigger one walk wile he little rides, is much more convenient. We use the stroller mostly for walks! If you're planning to go for walks that are longer than your toddler is comfortable walking, it's a lot easier to have the double stroller. (Especially when the little one gets heavy for wearing on walks!)
  • I don't know if everyone has good consignment sales in their area... we have SO MANY! It's kind of on the tail end of fall sales, but we will all have another chance in the spring to stock up on baby stuff. I ALWAYS see double strollers at sales, and I am definitely hoping to find one there for much less than retail.
  • @FlyChick almost all double strollers fit through doorways (tandem or SBS) because they follow ADA requirements.  I actually haven't heard of a double stroller not fitting through standard doors that a wheelchair can, I can even push my SBS City Mini Double GT through my front door.

  • So.. i've been spending way too much time looking at strollers. I think I've decided on getting the contour elite instead of the city select. Its way less expensive and it looks just as good or even better in certain ways. I also like the joovy scooter x2 in the lime green but you cant attach a car seat : (
  • I LOVE our Sit N Stand. I know some people don't, and they aren't always the most agile haha but they are so nice and I was able t oget all three of mine on it. Ours was able to have any infant seat attached to it which was awesome. I also would recommend looking into babywearing if you haven't already. I didn't try it until I had my youngest and I wish I'd had it earlier, it's so handy so be able to have one or two on ya while you do stuff (especially grocery shopping)

  • @lrwardrop - I'm glad to let other people do the research and mooch off of their findings! I was really liking the Graco double, but it didn't seem like there was an adapter for any other brand of car seat (not totally surprising). The Contour Elite is looking pretty good! :)
  • @emilyalso I just wanted to add my 2 cents about the contour elite since it is the one I have. Make sure you have room for it. It doesn't collapse well. To fit in the trunk of my mini van I need to have a rear seat in the van flipped down or take off the front child seat of the stroller. Maybe they have upgraded since 2015 to make it more collapsible. I do like that it has the adapter for any infant seat included. I also like how easy to adjust the seats are. It is just bulky.
  • @Junemonkey - THANK YOU for the extra info! I always forget that they have to be portable as well.
  • I love my Joovy Caboose Too. It's a tandem, so no issues fitting through doors/aisles/etc. The backseat can be used as a regular seat, or it comes completely off (literally with just some snaps) and can be used as a sit n stand!

I didn't think so, I tried it with my twins and returned it. SBSs are usually easiest to maneuver.

  • @chickyclg you recommend the city select? My daughter is 2, is just don't want to pay $700 for a stroller!

I think it's great! I have no problems maneuvering it, and like you I didn't want to fork over $700 for a city select. I also like that this one folds up rather small so it fits in the back of our SUV even with the third row of seats up! My oldest was 2 when my second was born, so I wanted something that has a traditional seat but could also grow with us to a sit n stand if she got too sick of the seat. My 4 1/2 year old now still likes to sit in the regular seat and only occasionally asks for the stand part!

  • @bacorrea the city select is amazing for 2 kiddos that are different ages, I have twins though and it gets mixed feelings in the twin world.  I have both the City Select double and the City Mini Gt Double.  I prefer the SBS the best, but the City Select is still an awesome stroller and I typically just now when I am just taking 1 baby to doctors appointments and use it as a single.

  • I would honestly love a Bob Dullie. My friend has a single and pushing that thing was a breeze! I have to talk to my husband about it. I just worry because DD will turn 3 right before this kiddo is due. I'm not sure how much "stroller life" she has in her. I like to go on walks though,  that's how I lost most of my pregnancy weight the first time, so DD would definitely ride in the stroller for that. I'm hoping there will be Black Friday sales somewhere!
  • This may be a dumb question, but has anyone with a SBS found that you have trouble getting through doorways? That's the main thing that worries me.
  • emilyalso said:

@emilyalso I've never heard of one that doesn't fit, that being said, there are times they are a tight fit.

Almost all public establishments legally have to follow ADA requirements.

  • We will be getting the Uppababy Vista. My cousin has it and loves it. I just love how convertible it is with all of the seat options and how it can be used for 1-3 kiddos. I'm just hoping my cousin gives me hers instead of me having to shell out all of that money for a new one.
  • I have an UB vista for my son and I LOVE IT!!!! I'll be getting the rumble seat with all the adapters. Prob gonna get a Babu Jogger City Mini GT double as well for my hubby's car.  Want a smaller SBS that can fit in his sedan. We also have bugaboo donkey that we keep at my parents house and bugaboo bee that we keep at my inlaws.  Will prob get a comfort board for my inlaws.  I think your best option is the city mini double.  Price is not super crazy and its good for 2 kids of different ages.  I am a huge fan of both the city select and vista but they are pretty big when folded.  The CM can fold a little flatter for less space.
