Fun announcement ideas!

This is my 2nd pregnancy. With my daughter we gave each grandparent a grandparents frame with the ultrasound photo in it at around 10 weeks. I am only 4 or so right now, but starting to think of fun ways to tell the family and friends. What are you guys planning to/did you do?!?!

Re: Fun announcement ideas!

  • Last time, my very best friend and I were pregnant at the same time. When we went to my parents' house for the weekend, I had her get on Skype to tell them she was pregnant. They were so excited for her! She told them I had been planning a shower for her already, and did I bring the invitation we had worked on? I pulled out a special invitation I had had printed for a DOUBLE BABY SHOWER for both of our babies! It took them a minute, but then they were REALLY EXCITED!! :)

If I can wait until Thanksgiving this time around, I plan to tell the whole family at once - maybe if we go around and all say what we're thankful for.

  • I bought the children's book "Another Mouth To Feed." I plan on taking a picture of them reading it. Easy Peasy.

However, for some reason, I am not a little bit inclined to announce at the moment. I am not looking forward to the "again?" comments!
  • I hear that. I'm in no rush to announce. I don't think it's even sunk in for me yet. Once I get to my Dr appointment, it will probably hit me and then I'll start getting excited
  • When I was around 10 weeks with DD we gave each set of grandparents a children's book with a note in the cover saying "dear grandma and grandpa, I can't wait to meet you! Please read this book to me in August! Love, baby"

This time around I think we are going to have DD wear "big sister" shirt to their house!
  • Last time I announced to my parents with a grandparents photo book. This time we are going to Disneyland at the beginning of October so I think I will do a Disney themed announcement. But I'm also in no rush to announce. I don't feel like sharing this pregnancy as much. I like that it is just me and my husband planning and no peanut gallery for now :)
  • Last time we gave the grandparents each a pacifier with a cute poem about keeping it at their house for the new baby. I found the idea on Pinterest and they all loved it. With this one we made my daughter a shirt that says only child expiring may 2017 that we plan on putting on her to announce to the grandparents and will announce to friends and family on Facebook around Halloween with pumpkins or something Halloween themed.
  • We are needing new family pictures so we are planning to do a "tie breaker coming soon" picture.  We have 1 boy and 1 girl now.

  • @chickyclg I also saw the tiebreaker one on pinterest, we might do that one too for facebook announcement.
For my parents, we recently had a big family reunion and I have a pic thats of the 9 grandchildren. My mom made them shirts with numbers 1-9 on them. I am going to photoshop another shirt with a 10 and put coming may 2017.
Not sure about the inlaws announcement.

  • I'm thinking that I'm going to have my son wear a big brother t-shirt while at a pumpkin patch and "try" to have him hold a mini pumpkin. The goal is to try to get a good picture to use as an announcement. Fingers crossed.
  • We are trying to tell in person as much as is possible rather than over the phone this time, although some will still just have to be called or Skyped due to distance.  But we think when my mom/stepdad visit next, we'll pin the u/s pic on a little chalkboard I have hanging on our front door & write "Ashley's pregnant!" & see if they notice. For our fb announcement, I think I'll just   do a simple picture of me smiling & holding the u/s. Unfortunately, we already used our cutesy ideas (little pumpkin, our dog reading What to Expect, First Comes Love, etc sign) for the pregnancies that ended in miscarriage.
  • I really don't know what to do.

With DS (#1), we had circumstances by which we felt we just needed to tell people early so we told in person or called quite early (6 weeks). And I told DH by waking him up to show him the pee stick.

With DD, though, we were a bit more interesting. I managed to find out myself when I was away from DH for a work event overnight. I had time to get a "best big bro" shirt from Old Navy and put it on DS. It took him a while to notice! But I was happy to get to announce it that way. I didn't announce in a cutesy way for #1 or #3, though. Also for DD we told DH's parents with 13w screening US pictures, which was nice. Their visit to us was well-timed. We told my parents over the phone.

  • I know it's cheesy, but I think I want to take my two kids to the pumpkin patch (I LOVE Halloween/fall/pumpkins) and have them hold their own pumpkins and set a third next them and say "Third little pumpkin coming in May" or something like that.
  • We told close family and friends mostly cause DH can't keep a secret. With our first I took a pic of our dog with a sign that said "guard dog duty starts September 2015" I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing this time but am thinking about dressing DS up as a fish for halloween and my costume will be a blue dress with a little fishy on my belly. Then wait and see how many people catch on.
