In the last 3 years, my husband has had us buy two new mattresses in his unending quest for sleep perfection and has now launched a campaign for a third. Do you love your mattress? What do you have?
In the past, I have let DH pick out the mattresses because he's got an iffy back--the doctor says its just the muscles and he's gone through physical therapy; we are going to request another round of tests to see if they have more/different PT to recommend or if they can find anything structural; DH is quite active and fit, he just has a sore back almost every day. This time, I'm going to take the lead, so please share your mattress wisdom.

I've also heard great things about Tuft + Needle mattresses, but I've never tried one myself.
@teachermom2517 that is quite the endorsement! We'll see if we can find one to test out.
@cantalopes24 thanks! I don't think we need dual zones...whatever works for him should work for me (I'm easy!)
We ended up not liking the latex or foam mattresses and instead favoring the coil mattresses that had just a bit of foam in them + a pillowtop. It took laying on about 100 mattresses in 4 stores to figure this out. Also, towards the end, we did this weird assessment at one store where they lay you on a computerized bed and then the computer spits out recommendations. Here's what we ordered today at Sears (at 67% off).
As part of our total re-evaluation of the mattress situation, we realized we needed to upgrade to a king; DH can't sleep on his back without taking up over half of a queen (really broad shoulders). and I need my half! Of course, this now means that our bed frame and all our bedding is the wrong size. :-p Oh well, it needed to happen!
