@AmMcc12 I just used regular tanks and even maternity tanks for the most part. They were stretchy enough. But I was also primarily a pull shirt up vs pull top down mom.
@AmMcc12 I saw something on Pinterest about buying the super cheap camis from H&M, cutting the straps and attaching hook loops so that you can use those for nursing while still having the tank cover you from the boobs down. I might give it a try since I have 1000 of those instead of buying a bunch of nursing tanks? But I'm also lazy, so I might not.
@AmMcc12 I think it depends on your chest size and what your hopes are for bf. For me, with a large bust and nursing and pumping for over a year, they were an absolute necessity.

I made a few of these the other day! Seems to work great so far, haven't put it to practice yet obviously but everywhere I looked nursing tanks were horrendously overpriced. What is it about pregnancy and babies that thinks companies think they can charge ridiculous amount for a tank top?!
@AmMcc12 I used normal tanks w a built in shelf bra and pulled down the shirt. The tanks lasted about a year before it got too stretched, but I breast fed for 2 yrs for my son. I'm not super huge boobed though either.
I wore and will wear a nursing bra and a really stretchy Cami without a shelf bra. I wore the Cami because if you're nursing in public and you lift your shirt, your belly and back are showing. Now even though it's been months since I've nursed, I feel naked without one haha!
@AmMcc12 It's totally doable without them! I don't even remember them being a thing when I had my first (18 years ago). Especially when you're at home, you can wear most any shirt and just pull it up. That's what I did at night last time too (wore t-shirts to bed). For going out in public, I liked wearing a tee shirt with a stretchy tank underneath - that way, you can pull the shirt up and the tank down and you're not flashing lots of skin.
Weird question for all my fellow stretch marks sufferers:
It's like my stretch marks are getting stretch marks now. So much so that there's a weird patch below my belly button where it's like my skin has thickened and hardened and it can get sore and itchy. The stretch marks there are not purple/pink anymore so it's not like they're the newer ones. Anyone else have something like this?
I have a quick question... Can I come back?!! I started out here in first tri and have been MIA since because I deleted all social media from my phone and just never found time to return. I can update the circumstances of what's been going on, but know some ladies have already had their babies and didn't want it to be weird to just jump back in.. (if I'm welcome.) I'm sure a lot of you have formed super close bonds, and I've felt sad lately about missing out on everything.
Yayy thanks guys! I don't even know where to start but I will do my best. For those mobile peeps, I'm due the 28th, so still have a little bit to go for that.
Hi @TNgoldengirl welcome back! I wasn't around when you were first here. (I didn't find the community until a few months in) I'm not a FBer so I understand wanting to get rid of social media, but am happy to hear you're back! Join in!
@TNgoldengirl welcome back, I was wondering what happened to u and was getting worried! Thanks for the Ergo advice. I never treated myself to one last time so I'm new at caring for one.
Should I buy a nursing bra before or after baby? I haven't increase in size much and still wear my same bras (they are just tight), if genetics is anything my mom didn't get bigger till after giving birth.

After! I used to be a fitter, we recommended waiting because 1. Your ribs expand while pregnant so the band mah be different, and 2. Holy milk boobs. Mine went up 2-3 cups last time! I would get a cheap one to hold you over, and then about 2-4 weeks after baby, get q better one that fits.
I have a question that just came up today. DD is 11 days old and her cord stump already came off. DS's didn't come off until he was about 3 weeks old so I'm a little freaked out. Is this normal?
@CindyR29 Quintin's cord fell off a day or two ago and he's only 9 days old today. It's definitely earlier than DD's fell off but I'm not concerned. His belly button looks good, seems to be healing properly, there's no redness, discharge or foul odor so I think we're good!
Speaking of umbilical cords falling off, just wondering what everyones instructions for cleaning were? Some people are still telling me you clean it with alcohol once a day (ouch!) or hydrogen peroxide? I've never been a fan of hydrogen peroxide because it actually kills healthy tissue along with dead tissue... Or do you just keep it dry and clean until it falls off?
@yellowrose314 our hospital told us that they no longer recommend we clean with anything -- just to keep it dry. So that's what we plan to do.
Same here. Our hospital told us that cleaning with alcohol was too often killing all bacteria - both good and bad - and was actually ending in more infections because of it. So we just kept it dry until it fell off.

We were also advised to just keep it dry and call the pediatrician if it looked really red or otherwise infected. DS's cord fell of in 2 parts - a large part fell off but a smaller scab-like piece stayed on for a few extra days.
@CindyR29 My son's fell off when he was 6 days old! No problems.
@yellowrose314 The hospital in France gave me some kind of "drying lotion," which seems to be also for blemishes (yes, I've tried it). And they don't worry about giving baths right away, so I bathed the baby, used the drying stuff, and everything was fine. I think if you just keep it clean, it'll end up good.
Just wondering.. How long is typical to be admitted? Obviously it depends on a lot of factors so maybe this is a BTDT mom question with consideration to c sections, epidurals, etc..

@yellowrose314 I was told to use alcohol. They even sent me home with a bunch of little alcohol wipes
