Carrying IM needle for travel

I have to take PIO shots & I am going to be travelling to CA, so just a domestic flight. I was wondering if anyone here has been able to take the IM injection needle with them on carry on ? I'm only going for a day, so will have to take my IM needle, synringe & PIO vial in carry on. TIA! 

DH :  36, has Chronic Kidney Disease, on dialysis & is waiting on the transplant list (average wait for B+ is 5 years)

Me:   36, Hypothyroidism, PCOS, BMI 32, need to be done with "child bearing" ASAP so that I can be a Kidney donor (was fun realizing we didn't as much time as we thought :-/ )

We're TTC#1

IUI #1 : 5mcg Letrozole (CD 3-7) + Ovidrel Trigger + Had the one follicle = BFN  (March 2014)

IUI #2 : 5mcg Letrozole (CD 3-7) + 150 iu Bravelle on CD9 (after much begging!) + Had the one follicle = BFN (April 2014)

7th May 2014 - changed REs, this one seems to care (we think....)

IUI #3 : 7mcg Letrozole (CD 3- 7) + 75 iu Bravelle (CD 8-12) + CD12 Scan 5/16 + Had 3 follicles (2 under 15mm) = BFN(May 2014)

IUI #4 : 7mcg Letrozole (CD 3- 7) + 75 iu Bravelle (CD 8-12) + CD12 Scan 5/16 + Had 1 follicle + DH gave best sample so far = BFN(June 2014)

IVF#1 -  ER Only Cycle Sept-Oct 2014, 17  eggs Retrieved, 14 mature, 10 fertilized, 6 made it to Blast & post PGS  5 were not viable due to chromosomal abnormalities
Not sure where we go from here...

We're parents to two very adorable, bratty, affectionate & goofy Bernese Mountain Dog pups who would very much like a 2 legged baby brother or sister of their own!

    I kept mine in original packaging, since it needed to be cold, I wrapped with an ice pack, wrapped in a small towel and put in a gallon bag. I carried it through security and told them I was carrying injectable medicine. No problems going through security and no extra screening required. I have pre check and they didn't even ask me to remove it. So it is not a big deal!

    They didn't have an issue with the needles ? I guess since I can do the TSA precheck, maybe I'll be ok ?

    The only difference is you will have to take it out of carryon bag like you do for liquids...just let them know when you get to screening, no biggie!

    I had zero issues with TSA, I told them I had injectibles & they didn't care that it was on my carry on.

    @ddvj79 @mandasand sorry to resurrect an old thread.  Did you use a specific type of ice pack?  I will be traveling with Ovidrel next week on a domestic flight and wasn't sure if they consider the ice pack a liquid and if it needs to be a certain size?

    Ovidrel can be stored at room temperature; My doctor has me keeping it in the fridge incase we don't use it this cycle, but it's fine at room temperature. She also told me it was important it didn't freeze, which could be a concern with an icepack too close. 

    Me 34 DH 36 Married since July 2010 
    MFI (High DNA Fragmentation) & Mild endometriosis
    TTC #1 since June 2015 
    Aug 2016 - May 2017  6 IUI's with letrozole - BFN
    April 2017 - laparoscopy to remove mild endo
    June 2017 - Mini IVF letrozole 12.5mg, Gonal-F 75IU - Cancelled early ovulation, no eggs retrieved. 
    Aug/Sept 2017 - Mini IVF letrozole 12.5mg, Gonal-F 75IU, cetrotide - 13 eggs retrieved, 11 mature
    5 eggs ICSI'd 6 eggs frozen - 1 day 5 blast transfered, 2 expanded blast frozen - BFP!
    May 2018 - Baby girl born - Our Joy

    TTC #2 since July 2019
    July 2019 - FET - BFN
    Jan 2020 - FET - canceled due to family health issues
    Mar 2020 - FET - low beta - chemical pregnancy
    July 2020 - ICSI'd remaining 6 eggs - 3 fertilized - 2 survived to early blast stage, transfered both - Chemical Pregnancy

    I had to only carry PIO which doesn't need refrigeration. I'm not sure about Ovidrel, I will ask around but you might have better luck posting on a new thread. I'm sure someone has done this before.

    @beary67 I keep the shot in the box. I put that in a gallon plastic bag. I take one of the very small ice "mats", that have the penguins on it and it looks like little cubes - it's super flexible - I wrap that around the gallon bag. Then, I take a hand towel and wrap the whole thing - and stuff into another gallon storage bag. Viola!
