Re: Plagiocephaly & Torticollis

  • @laurenm2123 my pedi suggested seeing a craniofacial specialist (as opposed to the helmet provider), since they aren't the ones who sell the helmet they would in theory give a more impartial recommendation.

  • That's a good idea! We didn't do that but our orthotics guy was great, never felt pressured to get the helmet. You never know though and speaking to craniofacial specialist is a reallygood route to go to be sure you get all the info you need!

We were told that since Damien's was a mild case, we could try letting his head work itself out, which does happen sometimes, or move forward with the helmet. The longer you wait to do the helmet, the longer the LO will have to wear it though and I was paranoid. We opted to not leave it to fate.
  • I have an appointment with a specialist today at 11:30. Can't wait to see if they recommend a helmet or not!

  • Good luck!!  :)
  • @laurenm2123 how did the appt go?
  • I haven't updated about Madelyn in a while.  At her appt last week she was just under 5mm I think (started at 10)?  The specialist says she's now within the range they were shooting for, and since the helmet doesn't bother her, we're keeping her in it until the end of the month to get it a little bit rounder.  And then we'll be done, she'll have worn it for a total of 10 weeks.

    That's great progress!! Yay!!  :)

We had an appt today and Damien is now at 2mm so we are calling it quits. I'm trying to decide if we should keep the helmet. Kind of an unusual keepsake but he did wear it for a ling time, kind of a big part of his 1st year.

Hey sorry for not updating! They said that she doesn't need a helmet but we could get one if we wanted it for cosmetic reasons. We decided against it. They did however recommend physical therapy because her hips are slightly weak and she has too wide a stance while crawling. We go for our PT eval in April so it will be interesting to see what the say about that.

DH wants to toss ours, and I don't have any particular attachment to it, but I have a friend who kept her daughter's.
  • We're done!  Final measurement is around 3mm (and we started at 10).
    Great news!!!  :D
