Amnio experiences

So we found out that our baby boy has AVSD and that this significantly increases his risk of down syndrome from 1:10,000 to 1:2. They have scheduled an amnio for me for tomorrow. I am a nervous wreck, not because of the procedure itself, but because of the risk of miscarriage. Has anyone had experiences with the procedure? How was your recovery? I had a miscarriage earlier this year, so Im scared of feeling cramps, like such websites have suggested you feel after it.

Re: Amnio experiences

  • Just seeing this, so I know you've already had the procedure. Just wanted to let you know that I just had 2 amnios with my last pregnancy at 35 and 36 weeks. It was uncomfortable but not painful and I certainly felt some cramping for about an hour afterward. No adverse effects from it.

    Hope your procedure went well!

  • I just had mine yesterday. They found Truncus arteriosis at her electrocardiogram.  And informed me that there may be some underlying genetic disorder and that an amnio was recommended. I had cramping for a half hour. But take it easy afterwards. It will reduce your risk of complications. Good luck to you.
