Since we're getting closer to friends finding out which sex baby we're carrying, let's discuss what we are hoping for/think we might be carrying!  I love all the old wives' tales and ways to "tell" what the sex is.  We all know that only blood tests and anatomy scans are accurate, but I can't help myself!

I have two girls already and think this one may be a boy. Could be wishful thinking, but this pregnancy is totally different so far. I also did the baking soda test and it fizzed for boy!

Any other crazies out there into the sex speculation game? Ramzi Method? Cravings? Mayan or Chinese calendars?

Also, I know gender isn't the right word, but I couldn't bring myself to just put "sex guesses" as the title haha

I have myself convinced that this one will be a girl. This pregnancy has been SO different than with DS! We'll be thrilled no matter what but it would to be fun to have a boy and a girl!

Here is a list of some old wives tales I found online. Obviously, take this all with a grain of salt, but I think it would cool to see how the old wives tales rank against when we actually find out what our baby is. For some of these, I'm too early to really tell just how things will go...

Old Wives Tale #1: Heart Rate 
If the baby’s heart rate is above 140 bpm, it is said that the baby will be a girl. If it is under 140 bpm, then it will be a boy.

Old Wives Tale #2: Shape of Belly
If you are carrying high with a big, round belly, you are having a girl. If you are carrying low with a smaller belly that sticks straight out, it’s a boy.

Old Wives Tale #3: Ring Test
Using a string, hang your wedding ring over your pregnant belly. You are having a girl if the ring swings back and forth and it’s a boy if it swings in a circle.

Old Wives Tale #4: Acne
If you have acne while pregnant, it’s a girl. It’s thought that acne during pregnancy is caused by the extra hormones.

Old Wives Tale #5: Cravings
People believe that if you are craving salty foods while pregnant, you can count on having a boy. If you crave sweets, fruit, and orange juice, you are having a little girl.

Old Wives Tale #6: Skin under Left Eye
The eye test is when a “V” or “branches” appear when you pull down the skin under your left eye. If you see a “V” or “branches” in the white part, you’re having a girl. I have a “V”, so one more point for a girl.

Old Wives Tale #7: Time of Conception
The person that is most aggressive in bed at the time of conception is the opposite of what the baby will be. 

Old Wives Tale #8: Legs
If your legs get really big, you’re having a boy. If your legs stay in shape and lean, it’s a girl. I think it’s too early for me to tell on this one.

Old Wives Tale #9: Moodiness and a Little Pecker (this one is odd, but funny)
If you are really moody, you are having a girl since you have another extra girl hormones in you. Your pregnancy will make you smile and be more happy if you are having a boy because there’s a little penis inside you.

Old Wives Tale #10: Chinese Gender Chart
The Chinese Gender Chart claims to have an accuracy rate of over 90%. It is based on how old the mother is at conception and the month that she conceived.

Old Wives Tale #11: Mom’s Beauty
Basically you are having a girl if your beauty disappears during pregnancy. It is said that the girl “steals” the mother’s beauty. If you think that pregnancy has never made you look more beautiful, a little boy it is.

Old Wives Tale #12: Dream of Sex of Baby
If you have dreams that you are having a boy, you will have a girl. If you dream about having a girl, it will be a boy. Dreams show the opposite of what you are having.

Old Wives Tale #13: Clumsy vs. Graceful
If the pregnant woman is graceful throughout her pregnancy, she’s having a girl. If she becomes clumsy, she’s having a boy.

Old Wives Tale #14: Side You Most Rest On
If a pregnant woman prefers to lay on her left side, she’s having a boy. If she prefers resting on her right side, she’s having a girl. 

Old Wives Tale #15: Dad’s Weight Gain
If the dad-to-be gains weight while you are pregnant, it’s a girl. If he doesn’t gain weight, you’re having a boy. 

Old Wives Tale #16: Breast Test
If a pregnant woman’s left breast is larger than the right breast, she’s having a girl. If the right breast is larger, it’s a boy. 

Old Wives Tale #17: What Do You Think?
71% of the time, the mom-to-be knows what she is having.

Old Wives Tale #18: Morning Sickness
If you had a smooth pregnancy with no morning sickness, it’s a boy. If you were sick or felt really nauseous during your pregnancy, count on a girl. 

Old Wives Tale #19: Areolae
If your areolae (the part around your nips) have darkened, it’s a boy. If they haven't, its a girl. 

Old Wives Tale #20: Protein
When a pregnant woman craves meat and cheese, count on a boy.

Old Wives Tale #21: Feet
Are your feet colder now that you are pregnant? If so, you just might be having a boy. If your feet have stayed the same before pregnancy and during, you’re having a little girl.

Old Wives Tale #22: Headaches
If you are having headaches, you might be carrying a boy. 

Old Wives Tale #23: Baby Names
It is said that when you can only think of specific names for a boy or a girl, you will have that particularly baby. 

Old Wives Tale #24: Urine
What color is your pee? If it is bright yellow, you will have a little boy. If your urine is a dull yellow, plan on a girl.

I'm trying really hard not to "predict" this time. With DS I was 100% positive it was a girl. We didn't find out. And I was in complete shock at the birth. And it took me a while to realize that I was wrong. I wasn't disappointed, just confused. 

Part of me thinks this LO is a girl, but I'm really trying not to think about it. We are team green again, and I don't want to go through what I went through last time. 

But looking at the old wives tales are fun!

I've had 4 very different pregnancies, I thought my 3rd might be a girl for sure.  I was so nauseous and had terrible headaches for 4 months.  My first 2 I had maybe a week of being nauseous. A couple days before my ultra sound I had a dream it was s boy and then knew it was a boy.  Yup 4 boys!!  I also have 2 ss, so odds are pretty good this one will be a boy.  I would LOVE a girl though, not holding my breath on that one.  I've decided for the first time to go team green though.  I was done having babies so this gives me something to stay excited about . (Not that I won't love having another kid, I love babies)

Chinese gender chart says girl. Shettles theory (girl sperm is slower but stronger, boy sperm is weaker but faster) points to girl given timing of conception. More symptoms this time and aversions are different. Haven't heard or seen heartbeat yet. So since all the "woo" points to girl, I'm going to guess boy.

After having 2 girls, I'm preparing for another one. It just seems like it will make the most sense. However, when I think about the future, my brain is always picturing it with a little boy. So who knows!

My gut has been pretty accurate. With both DS and DD I had a strong feeling that I knew which gender they were and was right. This time I'm getting strong boy vibes. Also this pregancy is more like the one I had with DS. Acne every where. 

Only time will tell.

These are fun and made me laugh...What does it say if I crave salty chips and orange juice?  a boy and a girl ?
Also with DD I only wanted cheese, all the cheese there is, and did not even look at anything sweet ( and I have the biggest sweet tooth in the world)  I also had constant migraines with her...BUT my belly was high and round...and her HR was always high...right now I have no feeling to either side: one day I think it is a boy, the other I think it is a girl - so at least I have a 50/50 shot at being right?:)

Instinctively I keep referring to baby as "he" and DH keeps calling me out on it. I think I'm pretty evenly split between boy/girl with those old wives tales though, so who knows!!  Thanks for sharing, those are cute

My wedding ring is soldered to my engagement ring, so it would be a twofer deal. I don't have any string on me to try right now thought.

Been having acne, but that's receding as time progresses. Girl/boy? I have no idea.

I have no idea when exactly we conceived, so I have no clue what the answer to this one is.

I work out, so my legs are lean due to weight lifting. So....?

I've had moody days, but those are usually connected to the days I had to deal with more stupid people than usual.

Chinese Gender Chart for me said we'd have a boy if we conceived between May and April.

I look the same as I always did, just a little wider, with bigger boobs (score!)

All my dreams so far have been sex with other men dreams. And a few nightmares.

I am guessing that with the timing of conception, all of the boy sperm were finito at that point and the only sperm left were female. In my family, I have only been wrong about the gender of one child... and that was my first. I have guessed correctly on every friend, family member, etc etc... I am going with my gut.. Girl.

Almost every wive's tale test I've done has said girl, even though my gut says boy. I hope wive's tales win out since I have no boy names, lol! I mailed in my sneak peek test this morning so I should know in a few days (though I'm not betting on its accuracy after the murder scene I had to create in my kitchen this morning to get enough blood in the vial).

I was 100% certain last time that it was a girl.  Immediately upon knowing I was pregnant, I just knew. This time, I go back and forth.  Since we can't decide on a girl name, that means it'll be a girl

If the acne and moodiness are correct, girl! Haha. But headaches: boy. Ugh. I don't care though; just want a successful pregnancy and I'll be happy!

So far, the results are 15-girl, 5-boy. Last time, I had a feeling it was a boy, and I was right. My cravings and symptoms have been very different this time, which makes me think girl. Of course, I say that now which means it will probably be another boy.

With my first, i preferred laying on my right side-ended up being a boy.  This time around, I'm all about the left..soooo maybe a girl?

I can't wait to see if it's accurate! The baking soda was about as financially committed as I'm getting haha

With DS I was absolutely sure I was having a girl...to the point that I was a little bit disappointed when we found out the sex! Well, maybe not so much disappointed as completely thrown for a loop as to how my intuition could be that bad. With the wives tales I was split pretty evenly between boy/girl.

This pregnancy has been super different, so maybe girl? We'll find out around Thanksgiving.

What result is everybody getting on the Chinese calendar predictor? Mine says boy. I think I'm telling myself it will be a boy, so I'm not disappointment when it actually turns out to be a boy. How terrible am I? Truth be told, I've had a pretty terrible relationship with my mom since the dawn of time, and I long for a girl to share that missed connection with. I would be so happy for a boy, too, but I can't deny my preference. Whatever happens, happens, and ultimately just praying for a healthy babe!

Based on the Chinese gender chart, boy. I have also been saying "he" but I am not sure if that is just force of habit because of DS.  I will be happy regardless.

Based on similarities of pregnancy, cravings etc and gut feeling I'd say it's another girl! Also did ring test and it said girl again as well, and it has never ever been wrong for anyone on my mom's entire side of the family so far lol have to wait until December to find out for sure

I've heard for time of conception if it was further from ovulation the girl. So we BD and 4 days later I ovulated and got pregnant. My hubby thinks girl and I think boy bc we have 8 nephews and 2 nieces....we are both heavy on boys.

Most of the signs point to girl. I've had dreams that baby is boy and girl.  We are not finding out so it'll be exciting. No clue on names for either gender

I think I too am telling myself boy for similar reason too. My mom passed 13 years ago and was sick half my life. I long for mother/daughter relationship too! I'll be happy regardless

it's totally fun to check out old wife's tales but so many were so wrong with my first pregnancy. Chinese gender chart - technically I was still 30 when we conceived and so it should have been a boy, but we had a girl. I had the best skin ever no acne (where I'm usually acne prone), but we had a girl. I was also not moody or nauseous which would indicate a boy, but.... it was a girl LOL

The one thing that was "accurate" was the heart rate. DD had a heart rate of around 156 at all times (except one time around 25 weeks where she must have been asleep and her heart rate was 140. this time around, this babe has a heart rate of 164 so according to that, and the nausea it should be a girl LOL

This time I'm feeling completely different and I do have a feeling it's a boy but we'll see. So many women I know have had completely different pregnancies but ended up with two boys/girls.

That's why I can't wait for my 12week scan. I need to know!

Last night I also had a crazy pregnancy dream that I grew a beard and had read somewhere that the hairier you get during pregnancy the more likely you are to have a boy. So in the dream I told DH that we must be having a boy.
Not sure if that's a sign it's a boy or just another crazy pregnant dream.

@mrsw0920 - The hairy thing was true for me during pregnancy with my son! My belly below my belly button got SO hairy - it was awful. The very edges of my face got tons of the super fine hair too. So far none of that for me this time... fingers crossed!

I doubt I'll be this lucky but if I go my the Chinese gender chart I will be having a girl.  Guess we'll find out in April

I am thinking it's a boy because my husband's family (going back 4 generations) has all had two boys. The tradition is, the oldest son doesn't have children and the youngest has two boys. My husband is the oldest so hopefully we will break that tradition but the boy sperm seems strong with this family.

@Jmp111 you put baking soda in a glass and then pour your pee over it. If it fizzes/froths, it's a boy. If there is no reaction, girl.

Weeeeell, the results came back from my Sneak Peek Gender Reveal blood test and apparently we are having a boy! So that makes 3 boys to 2 girls! Haha, still not reeeaaaallllly confident about the accuracy, but it does match my gut feeling (tho heartrate, sleep side, acne, and a ton of other "tests" were all pointing to girl).

So my husband's friend that lives out of state called to congratulate us, he had a dream we were having a boy. My husband was like... Um we haven't even told anyone were pregnant yet. I have a gut feeling it is a boy and my gut was right with DD.
