Chicken pox vaccine

Have any of your kids gotten chicken pox from the vaccine? I know that it is a possible side effect. DD got her vaccine about a week and a half ago and on Sun she developed a suspicious looking red blistery thing on her nose. She's not trying to mess with it, but it's definitely not a mosquito bite or baby acne. She doesn't have a fever, but is crabbier and didn't sleep well last night (she's getting both upper canine teeth in).

I included a picture although I couldn't get one to really do the thing justice, it is an angrier red then it looks like in the photo.

Re: Chicken pox vaccine

  • No, none of my kids has developed chickenpox from the vaccine.  I think my oldest may have come down with it despite having had the vaccine (it was a mild case, though) but it probably wasn't as a result of it.

Did you ask her doc if it's chickenpox?  Doesn't look like it to me from the pic...

  • None of mine ever did. I would call the doctor though. It doesn't look like it to me either, but I don't know.
  • I think it's supposed to show up on the core first, if there aren't any on her tummy I don't think it is...

It almost looks like a fever blister. I get them around my mouth, closer to my cheek when I've had too much sun or have a fever. Has she had any extra sun exposure?
  • DD got the vaccine today. I am a nurse I know there can be a mild chest rash or low grade fever in about a week or so. I can't tell from the pic but if it looks fluid filled should def make sure impetigo is ruled out by ped. It normally starts on face as a blister.

  • Jake didn't either. My eldest got chicken pox when he was 3, (despite being vaccinated against it??) they started on his genitals, poor little thing, then spread really quickly all over his body. I think you'd have noticed more by now. They also didn't look like that.

Hope you get some answers & your little one gets better soon.
  • Thanks guys, yesterday morning when she woke up it was just a little scab. I called the Dr and she said to just keep an eye on her and bring her in if any more pop up.
