Re: Symptoms Thread (08/31)

  • My symptoms are still the same just a lot stronger. I thought they were letting up but the sore boobs and the nausea seems to have come back with a vengeance. Also, I now have heartburn. All. Freaking. Day.

This isn't a symptom but every time I read about a high risk pregnancy or genetic disease, I google it and freak it out. Ugh. I need to practice some restraint.
  • Nausea is really bad but still not throwing up (7wks). Heartburn is murder. I've lost five pounds already. Ack! Also, my gas was so bad today at my ultrasound they couldn't see baby so they had to do a vaginal u/s! Haha! Ew! But it was cool to see the peanut regardless.

  • My symptoms are pretty much the same as they have been, but I have been getting dizzy when I stand up recently. This is not something that I remember from last time and I am not excited about adding it to my list of symptoms!
  • Nausea is destroying me this time around. My last pregnancy I knew all the tricks to keep it at bay but nothing is working this time. With a four month old rolling around and going back to school tomorrow I'm pretty much screwed until second trimester.. Yuck .
  • Ok...I have terrible seasonal (well, really all-year-round) allergies. I have to take Zyrtec and Flonase daily to maintain a normal life...otherwise I am congested and develop sinus infections really quickly. Zyrtec is fine to take because it's category B. Flonase is category C and it was recommended I not take it. I already developed a sinus infection (and am finishing up an antibiotic (Augmentin) for it)) and I've only been off Flonase for 3.5 weeks. The congestion is causing me to gag constantly and throw up every morning. I've tried the Neti Pot, but it was recommended that I not use it because you cannot prove that everything is sterile. In place of the Neti Pot, I've been using saline spray. Anyone else in the same boat? Any tips or tricks you've used that have worked?

  • @ebloom3

OH so sorry to hear about your allergies! that is awful. I'm also taking Zyrtek for my allergies only it's not what you'd typically expect I get EXTREMELY itchy all over my body and I want to rip my skin off.

But here is my question on that if you have any insight: Zyrtek is safe during pregnancy but not recommended if nursing. Do you have any idea (if you will also nurse) what else we can take??

As far as the congestion goes: I had that with my DD and was gagging all.day.long. But really the only thing that I did was the saline spray. Maybe try the vapor peppermint stuff that you can sniff? I think they have some all natural ones that might be safe??

    Hope you find some relief!!

  • @ebloom3 I hadn't even thought about not being able to use neti pots; I don't use one, but I do use the sinus rinse squeeze bottle from NeilMed that you also have to disinfect.  Maybe doing a steam bath on your face (boil water, pour into a bowl and put your face over the bowl) would help without the disinfection concerns?  I do that (+ a few drops of tea tree oil) when I have a sinus infection and it feels lovely.

@MrsBakes I went off my allergy meds (Allegra + Nasonex) once I found out I was pregnant, since my allergies don't really flare up until late fall anyway.  I have a boatload of Allegra at home and my OB said that was the same class as Zyrtec and Claritin so it was fine.  However, I didn't know you couldn't take Zyrtec while nursing and my allergies are usually HORRIBLE in the spring so I'd love to hear what others have to say about it!

  • just in case anyone was wondering: Tylenol is useless for a migraine...I could just as well have swallowed an m&m.....My head feels like it is going to explode...stupid barometric pressure....
  • @shoegirl1975 I feel your pain. I had a migraine that kept me in bed for 7 hours on Sunday. I asked my OB what was safe to take, and he said I could continue taking my Fioricet, so definitely call your OB and ask about your options!!

Oh no! I hear you, I'm a migraine sufferer, too. And to me, Tylenol is useless overall. it has never helped me with anything. Did you try cool wash cloth over your eyes and temples? It won't make it go away, but it can help. Hope you feel better!

I've always boiled (then allowed to cool) the water before using the Neti pot and put the pot itself through the dishwasher (which pretty much sterilizes). Was the recommendation pregnancy-related? Or to avoid that freaky brain-eating amoeba thingy? Allergies suck.

  • Okay! I apologize if this is TMI but I just have to ask... Has anyone else experienced bleeding after sex? It has happened twice now and I've decided to wait (and not have sex again) until I see my doctor next week to ask her what she thinks? I don't want to risk anything... And this did not happen in my prior pregnancy. Anyone experience anything similar?

This just happened to me. I think. I woke up yesterday morning with spotting. I was absolutely freaked out due to PGAL. Got a dr appt that day, but baby looked wonderful. Dr said it may have to do with sex the night before. Our cervix has a lot more blood flow in them, and are swollen/puffy. So it's not uncommon for some bleeding to occur. Never happened in a previous pregnancy. I told DH that he is banned from sex for the 1st trimester. It's not worth the stress I feel when I see blood.

  • Thanks! @kristenH88

I appreciate the support... I think I'll do the same and just wait it out a few more weeks, I'd rather be safe then sorry!

  • For those of you that suffer from migraines, try smelling some lavender or peppermint essential oil. I was a huge sufferer after I discontinued birth control and was taking Imitrex but I was going through it too quickly, using essential oils made a world of a difference. As soon as I would feel something coming on I'd whip out a bottle of oil called head clear (mix of lavender, peppermint and lemon) and no migraine! If I feel one coming on at night I put the oils in a diffuser.
  • @Knottie34471835 yes with my first pregnancy. It was an early loss though (unrelated to having sex of course) but because DH and I never want to see spotting again, we've not had sex so far in the first tri because I know it will happen again and freak me out. Even though I know it's only sex-related. PGAL brain, ugh. Fortunately DH is kindly supportive. But all that to say, yes, quite common after sex.

Also had a migraine this week. I tried a single Tylenol but like @shoegirl1975 said, it was useless. I've never had a migraine with a ringing ear before but it was awful.

Also: I think I just experienced my first nice, stabbing round ligament pain. I know it's a little early (seven weeks) but I sneezed and felt like a knife had been plunged into me on my right side on the underwear line. Yikes! And I'm sure it will just get worse.
