Sleeping with Blanket

my LO just started having an attachment to his Aden and Anais Muslim receiving blanket. He cuddles with it and almost uses it as a pillow. It has been freaking me out though bc twice now we have went in and the blanket was loosely  around his neck. Since then I have been slipping it out of his crib once he falls asleep, and replacing with a smaller lovey blanket but feels so bad about it.  Does anyone else allow their baby to sleep with a blanket? If not, when can you generally start?

Re: Sleeping with Blanket

  • I gave my guy one at 6 months, when he could roll over and move. It's about 2 ft x 2 ft, made of fleece/minky. His doctor said it was fine and LO hasn't had any problems. He also likes having something to cuddle to sleep. I'd say it's fine for your LO, but always trust your gut

  • I give my LO a blanket but she never pulls it up over her face or anything like that so I've never second guessed my decision. But they are old enough now to know how to get things away from their face. But always go with your gut!
  • The around the neck thing would freak me out too. We use a taggies blanket with the little stuffed animal. I was planning to start using a light quilt this winter when it gets cold, but it's stiff enough that she shouldn't be able to wrap it around her neck: she would have to physically roll it up first. I personally would be nervous about using a receiving blanket or a sheet because of the strangulation hazard.
  • I know same here but he won't let it go! He balls it up and puts it under his head like a pillow. I have been going in and replacing it with the lovely version but he wakes up looking for his big blanket and it's so sad! I think I will keep replacing it before bed until he is a little older!
  • My baby girl won't sleep without her A+A blanket. I let her sleep with it from about 6 months on. She does pull it up to her face, but the muslin is breathable. As far as with fall/winter coming, I will probably use the large Halo sleep sacks I have, plus her A+A she can't sleep without!
  • I started a blanket at 9 months. She never used a paci so she puts it up to her face to fall asleep. I found her with it on her face once and it freaked me out a little. She loves her blanket. She would carry it around like Linus if I would let her.
  • My daughter had had a blanket since about 7-8 months. I did switch it out for an Aden and Anais lovey (little blanket with a stuffed bunny head) which she now cuddles every night.
