Mommy Fails & Wins

Re: Mommy Fails & Wins

  • How do you walk and breastfeed, this sounds like magic to me. I has enough trouble figuring out how to hold the 13 pound baby, support the wobbly head and not smother him with boob while sitting in the car!

Mine is a quite a bit smaller than yours and has good neck control but essentially I have him in a lying down position across my body and I put the arm on the side he's nursing under him (his head resting in the crook of my arm and my hand holding him near his butt. This way I have my other hand free to deal with my toddler or whatever
  • Yes, what @Curls919 said. My LO is only about 7-8 lbs right now. Once she's bigger I'm not sure I could do it that way.

  • @liljabee I figured out how to walk and bf about a week ago. I've been so sick, I had been spending most of my time in bed or on the couch with ds. Dh was annoyed when I figured it out.. He was counting on the baby to keep me pinned so I would heal from all the complications, lol.

  • Mom win- had the first visit to grandma & grandpas house today! 45 minutes away and timed driving perfectly during naptimes.

Mom fail- LO was only awake for probably a total of 2 hours today which most likely means a looooong night.
  • Mom fail - the batteries to the monitor died at some point between 9:30-12:30. Woke up randomly and checked the monitor and it was dead. I jumped out off bed in a panic! I heard her crying ran in the room and scooped her up. Hopefully she wasn't crying for long  :'(
  • @Stephanie7693 doesn't sound bad at all!! DS met his uncles and cousins Sunday afternoon. I didn't even have to hold him or feed him for almost 6 hrs.
now that night he was way over stimulated and took forever to actually go to down for bed but it was worth it! That and we had neighbors over that evening so after her FINALLY went to bed st 11.... I had ppl waiting with a cold beer and lots of laughs for me. It was a win of a day!

  • Mom fail... I didn't hold my baby except once the past two days because I was in so much pain. I ended up in the hospital Saturday afternoon from intense chest pain that made it impossible to breathe. I had no idea I was borderline vitamin deficient on a lot of things so it turns out, when I cut dairy out of my diet to try and help my DS's gas problem, the levels on all my electrolytes (potassium, calcium, magnesium) dropped. Potassium keeps your muscles from cramping, so what happened was all the muscles in my chest and around my heart and lungs were cramping constantly. The pain started on Tuesday and was getting worse as the days past, but I was trying to ignore it because I knew I didn't really have the time to be sick with a newborn. My poor DH was on constant baby duty for days and is exhuasted. I've been on lots of pills since the ER and today I finally have held him for more than a moment (that part is a win).
  • @Jaspertheyoungturnip That is scary!!! I know a lot of us, including me, have cut out dairy for the LOs. I never would've thought about potential deficiencies as a consequence.  I've been taking an additional calcium on top of my daily prenatal, but only 1 or 2x a week when I remember. Def need to maintain my diet better. It's so difficult, especially with BF. Glad you are alright!!!
  • @Jaspertheyoungturnip I'm glad you have answers and will be able to get better. Pregnancy and nursing are so incredibly demanding--ensuring your health and recovery is not a fail!

  • @ramoseecology @lblu43 of course they immediately went to blood clots, too, which was scary! We cut dairy just to see if it would help, and less than a day later I on a downward spiral. I'm hoping that what was making him have a hard time was maybe not enough vitamins and not the dairy. I had the same thought, that so many moms cut dairy and no one tells them that could happen!
  • Mom fail: I didn't hear my alarm this morning. My husband woke me 30 minutes before I would leave to drop off the kids, but then told me to stay in bed and he would take them to school! (That part was a win). But my kids got themselves ready this morning, I made it upstairs just in time to snap a picture before they left, and they both looked adorable. I feel so bad I did nothing else for them :/
  • @midwestbaby that's what I did yesterday! Levi fell asleep as soon as I started vacuuming :)
  • Win: levi has not made me hold him all day for the first time in weeks! I was able to clean and make the kids lunches for tomorrow. Maybe I'll even be able to cook tonight!
This morning I also had to pump before feeding because I was engorged, once after the 6 hour stretch and again after a 3 hour stretch. I got 7 ounces between both pump sessions! That's a record!
Today has been awesome so far, praying it continues for tonight
  • @Stephanie7693 we are having the opposite issue today! I've only been able to put LO down for 10 min at a time, which is so unusual for him! I just want my happy baby back!

Are you around the 3 week mark? That's when Levi started. It's been a long and stressful 3 weeks since. I hope my happy baby stays, and that yours returns soon!

He's 4w4d, but I've been reading that there's a 5 week spurt, so I'm wondering if he's hitting that early. The afternoon/evening has been better than the morning, but I'm terrified of what tonight is going to look like!

  • For us it gets bad around 6pm. Morning is our best time. And we hit that 5 week spurt, it wasn't terrible,  but it wasn't fun either. But he was cranky all the time anyway, so it was hard for it to get much worse. He just woke more often at night
  • Yeah, last night was rough. He had consistently been going from 11-3/3:30, but last night he was up, basically from 1:30-4:30. Hopefully tonight will be better, I'm desperate for some sleep!

DS had some massive spit up that soaked him, me and my hair. He went straight to the tub. Immediately after he soaked our bed, my nightstand and my pump in pee. He then proceeded to pass out.

Basically a frat boy in training.

    Mom fail.
I literally laughed out loud. Lol he better not be training!! It's too soon!
On a similar note DS may as well be chugging beers when he's eating lately... You may be onto something.
  • Levi peed all over me, him, the changing pad and the floor this morning. Impromptu bath. And then spit up on himself. Frat boy is right!
  • @jacmkelley yup, he is a total chugger too. These boys!!

  • Win: I had both kids out basically all day- out of the house by 10, went to give some paperwork to dh, paid out storage unit, went to the bank, visited my office- hit up hr about fmla and added LO to health insurance, went to get his birth cert, got the mail, applied for LO's passport, and went to Walmart. (In 4 different towns).

Fail: I fed DD mcdonalds for breakfast, Wendy's for lunch, and frozen pizza for dinner (fed myself this too)....
This is beyond impressive to me... I took both kids to the bank and CVS and needed a nap!

  • @bookhousegirl we did family pictures on sunday and then went out to dinner. It was our first family outing with all 5 of us. I took a nap when we got home lol (I also enjoyed a margarita with dinner that probably contributed to my exhaustion )
