I'm thinking about all things fall to keep me from thinking about the glucola in my fridge that I have to take in an hour. I'm probably just overthinking this and everything will be fine. It's funny cause I'm not worried about the test itself, only this stupid drink and feeling crappy for the rest of the day.

ETA: my office just called and rescheduled for Friday. For those of you who have take this test, did you take the day off to recover? I have a very physical job massaging and don't know what to expect my body to feel like..

  • So glad Fall is creeping ever closer...!

I have a 24 week check-up on Thursday, but I don't know if I'm doing the GD test. No one mentioned it to me and I don't have the little drink so I dunno.
  • @cayaylonglegs I already had the day off when I did my glucose test and I'm glad I did because I came home and slept for two hours after it. From the time I drank the drink until I napped, I felt weak and slightly nauseous, but after my nap I felt fine the rest of the day.

  • I GO HERE THIS WEEK! This morning I've got an OB appointment where I'm hoping they'll tell me if they found anything weird on the anatomy scan. I always feel so in the dark when I go there. I've also got an appointment with my midwife this afternoon, which I'm sure will be much more boring. (I always schedule them for the same day, because it's easier just to take one day off for stupid double appointments.)

  • I have a regular appointment tomorrow. I'm curious if my health has tanked, numbers wise, like I feel it has lol. Since being back to work I swear my blood pressure has raised from stress, and I'm gaining weight a little quicker (there is ALWAYS some snack in the workroom I can't resist), and I've had less time for exercise. I still eat fairly decent meals, and am fairly active on the weekends and move around at work,  but I'm just curious.

Otherwise it should be a quick appointment. I need to remember to ask about a breast pump prescription.

  • @dmontgo I'm guessing they'll schedule it for your next appointment. This week is my 25 week appointment and last time she said it would be at the appointment after that, which I start going twice/month then, so around 27/8 weeks.
  • @dmontgo my OB told me they would schedule it after my next appointment which will be around 27 weeks. I was expecting it sooner too, but that might just be the case with some OB's.

  • Thanks @cgss11 @caseyewhitaker!

Not looking forward to paying co-pays twice a month in the next trimester! D:
  • @cayaylonglegs I was worried about the glucose test from the stories is heard. Honestly, I got myself worked up for nothing. Drink wasn't bad at all. I was 100% normal until the blood draw. It hurt more than usually for some reason. I got a little sweaty and dizzy on the drive home for maybe 5 minutes. But I think that was from the blood draw, not the drink. I'm a baby about blood draws and can get like that when I think about it too much. I was a little more tired than usual later in the day, but that's it. Didn't stop me from going about my normal day.
  • @dmontgo Blech. We do a monthly check toward our insurance deductible at every appointment for $200. I sincerely hope they don't think they'll be getting that twice a month now.

  • @jandd2014 and @tinattt23 - thanks ladies. I always have my Drs appts on Mondays cause I'm off work. I can't do it next Monday because of Labor Day and they were adamant about having it done before I hit 28 weeks. They also were the ones to recommend not working afterwards. I'm hypoglycemic so sugar sometimes gives me wonky reactions.

@dmontgo - our OB office charges everything except ultrasounds after delivery. I am not looking forward to that bill.

  • @caseyewhitaker We have to pay $250 each appointment until we reach our $1,000 deductible...wah. I think we have one more $250 co-pay, then we will still have to pay  $75 per OB appointment. Our insurance (United) rarely covers 100% even with our copay, so I get a $50 bill for every lab, too. I used to have Cigna and I wish I didn't lose it...:(
  • @cayaylonglegs  I had an early morning appointment for my glucose test and went to work after. I did not find it to be a big thing at ALL - just take a snack for after!! Maybe something without sugar, too. I had some popcorn myself and felt fine. The only "sugar high" I experienced was within that first half hour after drinking it and I just sat there at the doctor and chilled through it. (They gave me mine to drink on site, not in advance).

    GOOD LUCK! :)

  • @cayaylonglegs i did my glucose screening at 24 weeks and didn't have any problem going back to work afterwards. I had a slight headache, but felt fine otherwise.

Hi! J17 lurker joining in (twins will be born by early December) @cayaylonglegs I had an early GTT and I got real grumpy, real quick when my sugar crashed about 20 minutes in but I was just sitting there waiting- it ended up being not as bad as I'd worried.

I have a fetal echocardiogram tomorrow- has anyone had one? Granted there's 2 hearts to look at but they've booked me a 4 hour window :o I hope the don't mind if I whip out snacks and water halfway through...
  • I get billed all at once too after. Or actually I think they said something around 8 months? I have had to pay co-pays for the extra lab stuff and ultrasounds. Reasonable me would be saving to prepare for the big bill, but I'm in buy all the cute baby and house things mode right now. Thankfully we have the money to cover it, it's always just less of a blow when you have specific money set aside.
  • @dmontgo ugh! having babies is like highway robbery: "Congratulations, we'll be taking all your money!" We don't have a copay on top of it fortunately. The deductible for BCBS is $2000. We're supposed to get the deductible out of the way by October and then there's some portion of hospital time we have to pay depending on what goes down there.

We keep saying to each other, where's all our money going? Yeah, thank goodness for insurance, because I sure wouldn't want to pay for all this without it, but you know...

  • @cayaylonglegs I did my glucose test today. I didn't put the drink in the fridge though. I was afraid it would make it even harder to drink. I didn't take the day off but I should have maybe thought about taking the morning off. I felt fine after drinking the cola until like 10 minutes before the blood draw and I felt lightheaded. I got to work and drank some water, ate some grapes, and crackers and I feel good now.

I'm am so thankful that is over :)

More like... it's America and our health care system is so screwed up it can either be outrageously expensive to be born or free just depending on what situation you're in. It costs me a total of $150 from first prenatal appointment to first pediatrician follow-up appointment. It is so so so warped.

  • @TinaBelcher hey there- i had an echo with my anatomy scan (took total of 1.5 -2 hours) and I'll have another echo on 9/12 but they only need like 45 min. Is it just an echo??

Echo & growth scan- I know the growth scan should only take an hour so I have no clue why it's such a long appointment! ::shrug?::
  • I had my glucola this morning too! It wasn't too bad, but the extra sugar made Bean pretty active. I did take a small nap this afternoon (luckily I had the day off from working the weekend.) @tinattt23, I noticed that the blood draw pinched a little more than usual too and I did get a small bruise this time. Maybe just a coincidence?

I didn't have any issues with the 1hr one (went back to work afterwards), but the 3hr one wiped me out and left me with a big ol' bruise in the arm. You definitely need the whole day off for the 3hr one (but I bet you won't have to take it). If you are saving days, I would suggest to not use a whole day off, just my 0.02.

  • I had an OB appt and my glucose test today (and also thyroid check and blood count) but didn't get my results back yet.  @cayaylonglegs - I felt kind of crappy about 20-30 mins after drinking the drink but felt fine the rest of the day.  I did eat breakfast (I know sometimes they tell you not to) so that probably helped.  Fingers crossed that I passed!

They used every second of the 4 hours and then some!  :o Baby A was not cooperating so I had to get up and walk around a few times, plus Baby B actually does have a heart issue (superior vena cava is doubled- doesn't combine into 1 vein- which shouldn't be a problem but they'll keep an eye on it) so it took foreverrrrrrr. I'm a little stressed (lol understatement of the year) but talk to my doc on Thursday about what exactly this means for her
  • Appointment went well yesterday. My blood pressure was good, heartbeat was in the 150s. Next appointment in 2 weeks. I'll get a flu shot, tdap, and glucose test. I'll have to take a half day from work which is annoying because they only do them in the morning. My instructions for the one hour are only water in the morning and I can have one egg or a small handful of almonds.
  • I had my 26w appt yesterday and did my 2nd 3hr GTT.  I did my 1hr at 11 or 12 weeks due to my age, failed it and passed my first 3hr at 13w.  The one yesterday was much easier than the first 3hr due to no more first tri nausea factoring in.  Will most likely have another ultrasound, also due to my age, and am now scheduled to go back every 2 weeks.  Makes me realize baby boy will be here before I know it.  Bring on December!
  • Had my appt today, ordered my GD test and will go in tomorrow morning to do it fasting. Fundal height measured at 28cm, I'm 25w2d, Dr made comments about how I'm measuring "so far" ahead and it's probably another big baby (DS was 9lb8oz). He also wanted me to do the GD test asap to make sure diabetes isn't the issue.... I'm feeling confident as I didn't have it last time and I have zero symptoms of it now so, fingers crossed it goes well tomorrow. Confirmed I'll have an appt in 4wks and then move to every 2wks. Will also schedule the RCS at my next appt and he's willing to discuss date options, whoot! Good appt overall

Sorry that you failed the 1hr one, I did too! Most people pass the 3hr one. Recommendation, they told me to fast since 10pm the night before. I had a late dinner (8pm) and then had water until 9:45pm, went to bed and then had nothing until they got my fasting draw (8:30am), then had the drink and had a little water. I took tons of magazines, my book, my laptop and hung out in the lab for 3:30 hrs. Have a snack as soon as you are done. We went to a restaurant and they took so long to get the food that I had a horrible sugar crash-headache, hot flashes. I was wiped out the rest of the afternoon... I napped and drank a lot of water. I felt better by the next day. Sorry for this bible...

Thanks a bunch, @queenklau!  Mine is at 6:45am and I have to fast after midnight.  They did tell me I can still have water though.  I'll make sure I stock up on magazines before next weekend; I have a few books in reserve too!  Since it's scheduled so early, I'm fully planning on using the rest of that day to recover.
