Gift for nurses?

So I've been thinking of putting something together (again) for the amazing L&D nurses. Last time I made up a gift basket with different coffees, chocolates and other treats. They were so grateful (especially the night shift nurses). Have any of you done this before? Looking for some new ideas...

Re: Gift for nurses?

  • We couldn't plan ahead with our circumstance but a couple days after birth DH went to Costco and picked up different platters of food for maternity, labor and delivery and the NICU for lunch. We wrote notes from Finley on them thanking everyone. It was easy, fast, and all the nurses commented on it! The nurses can't accept personal gifts where I delivered so instead I wrote personalized thank you cards to the nurses that helped us the most. I l gave those out after being discharged (stayed for 6 nights in hospital so I had time to write them).

  • There was a thread about this awhile ago. I think the consensus was store bought, not homemade, food of any kind.

  • We are hoping to either bring in donuts or pizza. I only made four little gifts with lots of chocolates and simple goodies (kleenex, chap stick, hand sanitizer, hand cream) just for the ones that work with us the closest. If we have more than four, we'll likely not bring them out and just stick to the donuts.

Whoops sorry about that, I'm new here, where's the search tool? ;)

  • I had a couple bags of (nonmelty) candy ready in my hospital bag for the nurses. We have a weight check today and I'll drop off something for post-partum.

As a nurse myself I feel treats are never expected but always appreciated. I love reading thank you cards. On tough days, they keep ya goin!
  • We are just planning on ordering pizza or donuts

  • I put a basket with chocolates in my room and I told the nurses they were all very welcome to get as many as they wanted.... it worked fine. When we left, I gave them the basket with the remaining chocolates...

This is my question too. Last time I made nurse tumblers and gave them out..had to pick 3 of my (post-partum) attending nurses. They're on a different floor than the ones in L&D so I was never sure who gets the goodies.

  • My in laws own a cookie bakery and we brought in a couple dozen cookies for our nurses.

Last time we gave our basket (chocolates candy and coffee) to the nurses a few hours after being checked in since we didn't want to leave it in the car. This time, DH will be going to the house more often to check on DS so I'll most likely have him bring it after the baby's born.

Lol this reminds me.. I had a coupon for BOGO dozen donuts from KK which expired on my due date. I thought PERFECT! One box for me and one for the nurses..hoping I'd be in labor. Newp..obviously weren't good three days later.

I got checked in to the hospital around 6pm, shift change was at 7, and baby born at 9:45pm, so I didn't have my nurses long. We moved to another floor with different nurses for the remainder, thus my confusion of who to give. Maybe I'll just bring two baskets of chocolate and such.

  • We gave out mini champagne bottles with straws tied with ribbons and thank you notes. We gave them out on or way out. We brought ten and still Only had just enough ..I had no idea how many nurses it takes to health a mommy and baby on the L + D floor...we had an excellent experience and the nurses seemed so grateful.
