Beta not doubling!

Steff_99Steff_99 member
edited August 2016 in Pregnant after IF
Hey ladies,

I finally got a BFP after 2 years of TTC, 8 IUI's and 4 IVF's but my betas dont seem to be doubling. My nurse says to be cautiously optimistic. My beta was 146 on sun, 292 on tue and 538 on thursday. Anyone have success making it past the 1st trimester although your betas werent doubling?

Thanks in advance.

I don't personally have experience with this, but I know that in the first few weeks betas are supposed to double every 48-72 hours. I think your difference between Tuesday and today indicates doubling within 72 hours.

No personal experience, but my dear friend had this after her IVF 3 years ago..or almost 3 years ago as he turns 3 in September.
Its a nervrecking period not knowing, and I'm sorry that you yet have an obstacle to go through before getting to relax a bit and enjoy your positive.
Keeping my fingers crossed all is well and that you have a little fighter with you!

I don't have experience with this I'm sorry but I hope it turns out ok ! That's still a significant increase .. And yeah I think the doubling time is 48-72 hours so it could still be fine ! I'm sorry you have to be in this limbo !!

@Steff_99 After everything it has taken to get to this point, I'd say worry is completely natural! I found a great verse last night in my devotional to help me focus on the joy and not on the worry, but I know this will be something I have to continually remind myself to relax about over the next few months.

Looks like your beta is ALMOST doubling every 48 hours... and like pp mentioned, doubling is supposed to happen within a range of 48-72 hours. You're in that range! Relax, and enjoy being pregnant!

Thank you @babylonghorn16 these are technically being done every 48 hours so I may be freaking out for nothing. I guess I should consider myself PUPO. Thank you all again for your support. Im sure my hubby is sick of hearing me worrying about this since it's out of my control.

The worry is normal ! It's so hard to keep it under control . I made myself super busy during the early days to try to keep myself from losing it ! You could also try some yoga too :)

Should your hubby feel sick of hearin you worrying, which I doubt, as they probably do too just maybe mention it less.
Then write here. Be angry, upset, worry, tell a story, ... anything.
We know (or can relate pretty well) what's going on in that head of yours, as many of us have experienced the same, slightly the same or sometimes not even the same, but know the feeling.

I also did not have a doubling beta in two days, but it was about 60% up, which they said it would double by the third day so it made sense for having done the second beta early.

I agree with the 72 hour doubling calculation. Could you ask your doc to monitor every 3 days instead just to calm your nerves?

  • Options
How far along are you @dragonfaerie
@babymama619 they dont want to do any more betas. But I actually had them put the lab order in for sun which will be 72 hours. They want me to just wait til my u/s on 9/6 which is when I'll be 6w2d.
  • Options
At a certain point they did stop doing betas and said that an ultrasound is more telling than any beta values but I would go in for another one on Sunday if you can just for peace of mind ! 9/6 is a long ways away !

I am almost 15 weeks now and my betas doubled about every 72 hours. If I remember correctly, it was like 69 hour doubling time.  My office actually tested every three days. I just had my verifi test done and all looks good!  My office also said they wanted to rise 60% every 2-3 days.....good luck!!

Yes 9/6 seems like an eternity @mskeenan
Thank you for the info @lstep713 definitely going in tomorrow. I'll let you all know how it goes.

@Steff_99 I am 18w3d today. They had wanted every three days beta on me, and I had my first on a Monday. But my anniversary was Wednesday so they went ahead and did my second beta on Wednesday, and it was about 60% increase so they said it was good. If I had actually waited til Thursday it probably would have doubled. Praying for a great next test/us for you!!

    @Steff_99 It went great!

Only one of the 2 embryos took! (So glad we chose to transfer 2, and not 1)
We got to see the heartbeat which was at 118, and baby was measuring right one schedule so although we are taking it one day at a time we are very happy.

Did you have your u/s yet?
