Breastfeeding while traveling alone with baby

Hi all,

I am a FTM who will be traveling by car 5 hours for my sisters wedding. My lo feeds about every 2 hours so I am planning to stop to nurse him. Does anyone know any breastfeeding-friendly companies or restaurants where I could stop to nurse? Being alone I really don't want to go to a rest stop. Or does anyone have any advice on how to manage this? I do have some frozen milk I could bring but was hoping to have a stock pile when I go back to work & would have to pull over anyway to feed & then pump.

Any advice would be great!

Re: Breastfeeding while traveling alone with baby

  • Any family restaurant with booths! Booths provide more privacy! You can always ask for a table in a secluded corner. Also, I've been known to breastfeed in my car.
  • Buybuybaby and babiesrus both have nursing rooms and they have the nice comfy gliders. If you're near a mall Nordstroms also have them next to the ladies restroom. Target will also let you use a changing room. I'm a bottle feeding mom but I still like to feed those rooms, it's much easier to feed in a quiet spot. Good luck, I hope this helps.

  • Oh, and places like Babies r Us and Buy Buy Baby usually have nursing rooms. Additionally, nice department stores like Nordstrom often have lounges in their bathrooms that would provide privacy!
  • How about a park with benches? I think all of the above suggestions are good. I personally prefer more open places so I don't feel closed in. We're spending a huge part of our day BFing, may as well try to enjoy it ; )
  • @rlbrooks84 we were clearly on the same wave length  :D
  • I personally would feed at a rest stop. I like feeding her in the car and I hate getting off the interstate.
  • I've traveled twice with my LO and have nursed in my backseat- there's AC, no need to worry about strangers and you don't have to veer off the course too much. Plus you can run in to use the BR, get a coffee/food. My LO also eats every 2 hours pretty religiously but I got more time out of her on the trip because she slept a lot. Hopefully you'll get the same... Good luck!!!

  • You can breastfeed wherever you feel comfortable. Every state has a law protecting women from discrimination for breastfeeding in public.
I would feed in the car once then go to a store or restaurant the other time just for a change of scenery
  • Thanks everyone! I knew about target I have a sister that lives about 3 hours away too that will be home so I can stop at her house too. Hopefully will only have to stop once or twice as *knock on wood* my lo sleeps pretty good in the car.
