I think I might be the last pregnant PGAL lady here?  I love seeing and hearing about your rainbow babies!

Sending healthy happy baby vibes to @JournoGrl23 who I think is in labour!  And lots of "heading home soon" vibes to our babies who are still in the NICU.

Weeks/Age:

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to):

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

Questions?

GTKY: At the end of pregnancy/with a newborn do you prefer to hibernate, or go out and do stuff to occupy your time/mind?

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to): GIVING BIRTH!  But other than that, I have a midwife appointment on Wednesday and an induction massage scheduled for Thursday.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I'm honestly a bit sad to be back at work today-- I was hoping baby would come a bit early and I wouldn't have to come back for this last week.

Questions?  Did anyone go into crazy nesting mode before going into labour?

GTKY: At the end of pregnancy/with a newborn do you prefer to hibernate, or go out and do stuff to occupy your time/mind?  I like to get out, but the discomfort factor is pretty high at this point.  I'm looking forward to getting this baby off of my bladder!  Hibernating makes me stir crazy.

  • @Fremdschamen good GTkY question!

At the end of pregnancy I tried to stay as active as I could. Now that baby is here, I've done two trips out of the house in the last week. I'm pretty content hibernating right now. I think tomorrow we are going to a LC class and then maybe the grocery store.

  • @Fremdschamen I keep checking the labor thread to see if things are happening for you yet! Hopefully the massage helps!

    Sleeping tonight? Does that count?

    Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:
    Good luck @JournoGrl23

    Questions?

At the end of the pregnancy, I was running around like crazy tying to finish things up. Now I'm stuck in the house and losing my mind. Can't drive until 4 weeks and DH hasn't been home much. When he gets home, I want to go somewhere. Anywhere!

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to): Ped appt tomorrow. Hopefully all this bilirubin shit is over. We went through hell over the testing, and at his last appt, he was 2 weeks old and he still wasn't better, so hopefully he's kicked it now.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I think he might be developing colic? DH had colic as a baby, and he's started to scream for no reason at least a few separate times a day, and is super gassy. The only things that seem to calm him down is to hold him upright against our chests and dance with him. He liked the movement, I guess.

Questions? For STMS, how old was your LO before they started to sleep for longer spurts at night? I've noticed I'm not the only one who has an illogical fear of the approaching nighttime.

GTKY: At the end of pregnancy/with a newborn do you prefer to hibernate, or go out and do stuff to occupy your time/mind? With the baby, I have far preferred to hibernate so far. Walks every couple days are all the leaving the house I want. And honestly the end of pregnancy was such a blur, but I was contracting painfully for a full week before he was born, yet full of energy. I definitely had the nesting bug right before he got here @Fremdschamen!

  • @Knottie1442786653 I'm desperately hoping my obsessive need to tidy the house means things will get moving for me soon!

My daughter was sleeping 2-3 hour stretches after a couple of months, and sometimes 4+ hour stretches, up until the 4 month sleep regression. Then it all fell apart and I don't know if she ever recovered from it!  (DD is a horrifically bad sleeper.  I would not wish her sleep patterns on anyone-- even at 3 years old she only sleeps through the night about 50% of the time).

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to): 1 month appointment on Sept. 1st! I can't believe it's already been 3 weeks.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Positive vibes to all babies, especially those in the NICU still and for those that are struggling to sleep/eat/are fussy. Man, babies are exhausting and then they stare into your eyes and you can't even be mad!

    Questions?

GTKY: At the end of pregnancy/with a newborn do you prefer to hibernate, or go out and do stuff to occupy your time/mind? At the end of the pregnancy, I was having a lot of contractions and it was hot out, but I liked going out every few days to run errands and get things done when I had energy. Now, with the newborn, I am 50/50 but I started bleeding more yesterday so I'm trying to be good and take it easy more now.

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to): Had his 2 week appt on Friday and he now weighs more than his birthweight (yay!). We go back in 2 weeks for his 1 month.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I think the lack of sleep is starting to catch up with me. I've had less patience and am just generally lethargic. Hoping to start getting a longer stretch at night soon! Of course today he's been super fussy, which is totally different for him, so I'm sure we're in for a rough night.

    Questions?

GTKY: At the end of pregnancy/with a newborn do you prefer to hibernate, or go out and do stuff to occupy your time/mind?
End of pregnancy I was really active (taking walks, getting things prepared, etc) and I've been pretty active since giving birth, but I would much rather be hibernating at home! DH has off and always wants to be on the go, so I've been compromising and doing one outing a day with him and the two boys.

@Knottie1442786653 DS1 made big sleep progress around 6-8weeks. That's when we started getting a 6-7hr stretch each night (usually from 11-6). I'm counting down the days, and hoping this LO is as good of a sleeper!

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to): appointment on Friday if I don't go into labor before hand, NST at the appointment

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: positive vibes for us august moms still waiting for labor!!  I'm over the everyday how's me and baby thing from my DH's nana. Still no baby Ugh. And my mom if I don't answer the phone within 20mins she goes in full panic mode that I'm in labor lol

Questions? How much longer ??? LOL

GTKY: At the end of pregnancy/with a newborn do you prefer to hibernate, or go out and do stuff to occupy your time/mind? End of pregnancy I'm rushing around the house getting things done. I'm out and about mainly for my DS baseball practices. I think once baby comes I might hibernate. I'm not an out and about person if I don't have to be.
  • @Fremdschamen that sounds horrific, he already sleeps better than that at 3w3d! He goes 3-4 hours at night. This 4 month regression thing sounds like the stuff of nightmares.

@Bookhousegirl hoping Jasper is like your first! He's a pretty good sleeper, even in the hospital I could never get him to wake up to eat, I had to wait for him to get closer to the 3 hour mark and wake himself up!

The problem is, he used to sleep between 2-3 hours at a time at night, eat and go directly back to sleep after his diaper. Now he'll sleep for 3-4 (we were pushing 5 once yesterday night) but then stay awake for an hour afterwards, which is wreaking havoc on my sleep.

Is he just awake that hour or is that time to change and feed?  Eventually I only change if it's poop at night so that cuts down a lot of awake time.

  • @ThisisNumber3 just awake! He chooses strange times to be alert. But that sounds like it could help! Sometimes wet diapers make him fussy, but if he's not complaining, there's no need to wake him up.
  • Yes, I agree-- try changing only if necessary, keep lights dim and interaction minimal (quiet voice or no talking, minimal eye contact etc).  It sounds mean, but babies take their cues from us, so it is important to send them the message with our body language that it is sleep time.

  • @JournoGrl23 yes to sneezing!  They are just trying to clear out. I don't think they really get allergic until later on.

  • @JournoGrl23 congratulations! I kept looking for your birth announcement! So glad you are both doing well!
Yes to the sneezing question. DS sneezed a lot the first 4 or 5 days, and still does occasionally. The nurses and ped said it's totally normal, so I wouldn't worry about it, unless there are other symptoms (fever, coughing, really runny nose, etc).

Yes! I didn't know this, and we rehomed our dog with DD. We still are heartbroken over this. We thought she was allergic!

    Weeks/Age:  1 month

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to):  peds appointment Friday to check weight gain.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:  he is sleeping at night
Night! 2 nights in a row now, let's hope it keeps up. He has been being awake from abut midnight to 7AM, but the last two nights he has slept 9pm to 2AM, a short feeding  and back to sleep by 3:39 and then through to 5AM. This is really amazing for us. DH and I had starting sleeping in shifts.

Questions? Anyone else have trouble sleeping when the baby sleeps?  I feel like I have return of PGAL brain, I have serious trouble sleeping while he sleeps. I get tightness in my chest from anxiety, I startle awake at every sound, lack of sounds also worries me. I rationally know I cannot spend the next 6 months awake watching him breath or with another adult doing so, but the anxiety is overwhelming. I am wondering if this is straying into pp anxiety territory? I think I will ask on the mental health thread as well. Any advice on keeping the thoughts at bay?

GTKY: At the end of pregnancy/with a newborn do you prefer to hibernate, or go out and do stuff to occupy your time/mind? I am by nature a home body but we are getting out a fair amount with the baby. Lots of walks to keep from gping stir crazy.   At the end of the pregnancy we went out a lot knowing it would be a while until we could go on dates or spontaneous adventures again. The night before my induction we went to the beach, watched the seaworld fireworks and then had a late dinner out, it was really nice and the right thing to do.

Our LO also sneezes a lot. I am sorry to hear about the dog, that would be hard!
  • @liljabee yes I can't sleep at all when DD sleeps! The only time I've slept so far is when DH is up with her because then I know she's being watched carefully. I'm trying so hard to get past this but it's hard. I have such a fear of SIDS it's not even funny.

  • @JournoGrl23. I am sorry you are having trouble sleeping but it is nice to know I am not alone.
    JournoGrl23
  • @liljabee I sometimes struggle to sleep and keep checking him to see if he's okay since he also spent time in the nicu for breathing issues. We got a mimo, a monitor that he wears on a little kimono at night, before we even knew he would be born with breathing issues and it helps me feel like at least there is a backup device that will help me to recognize if there's a problem. No monitor is perfect but we tested it a few times the first night and I at least have the peace of mind that it may help more than just not having anything.

But I also keep reminding myself that the nicu said they would not allow him to go home until we could treat him like a normal baby. I hope you find ways to ease your anxiety, and definitely talk to your doctor about it to see if they can help. I think it's fairly normal for moms to worry, but obviously you can't not sleep for months and you will know if you think you're worrying more than might be normal. Hugs momma  <3

We are mostly ok with it now, this was nearly 3 years ago now. But we feel so dumb now knowing that the sneezing is normal. I was so exhausted (well we both were) and DD was our first. We were worried she was going to get sick and mad a rash decision that we obviously didn't have to make.

  • @liljabee I'm able to sleep when she sleeps but I'm so neurotic about other things. I think it's totally related to PGAL. We had DS sleeping in a bassinet for 4 months next to our bed. He was even over the weight limit and we kept him in there. We used it for 3 weeks with DD and we had to buy a new one. I was so worried one of the dogs would tip it or something. That thought never occurred to me with DS.

Every little thing worries me. It's exhausting.

I'm so sorry about your dog! I would be heartbroken too. But I never knew the sneezing thing was normal.
