Anyone still nursing?

My 15 month old is still nursing a couple of times per day. I'm pretty ready to be done, but not yet ready to cut her off. I guess we'll take it day by day. Just wondering what others are planning. Or What others have done with previous pregnancies.

Hi @Aviatrix!! DS (also 15 months) is still nursing in the morning and before bedtime. I'm planning on keeping nursing until he weans. But secretly hoping be weans by 18 months. I want a bit of a break before this LO arrives. I might consider weaning him then if he doesn't do it on his own. It's starting to hurt :(

I'm still nursing DD. I'm hoping to continue nursing her until my supply drops (I read that's common when you hit week 20) or until she wears herself. I'm hoping for the latter, even if that means tandem nursing.

    ETA weans not wears

Yes I have a June 15 baby and she is still nursing 2-4/day and 2+/night. We closleep though, so the night nursing is more for a pacifier than anything.

My 8 month old still nurses around the clock. When I was pregnant last time, DD1 weaned around month 4-5 when she was 13-14months old. Hoping to get this one transitioned to cow's milk around the year mark at least. The nursing right now is so irritating with the tender nips, but pushing through to keep her on BM. Also trying to pump more in case she self weans like big sis did.

With my last pregnancy my (at the time) 22 month old was still nursing, 3-5x a day.  He nursed until he was 3, I tandem nursed for 5 months when he self weaned.  This time my 2 yr old is still nursing (3-5x a day) and if he follows big brother's footsteps I will one again be tandem nursing.

    Kudos on tandem nursing!

I guess we'll just take things day by day and see how it goes.

Still nursing my 21 month old. I'm really hoping he weans sooner than later :/. Tandem nursing sounds exhausting and I don't think I'll have enough milk.

Still nursing my 9.5m old and I'm not sure how much longer we will last.  He's already started supplementing with whole milk (per GI doc) and only nurses a few times a day and not for very long.  I'm hoping to go a year so guess we'll see.  I'm wondering if my milk has changed since getting pregnant and that's why he doesn't want much, I've heard that can happen

@Cook3133  DD1 self-weaned about month 4-5 with DD2, your supply will probably dip temporarily around then. There is a slight change in taste in the early weeks, so he probably knows something is different. Interested to hear what your doctor's stance on starting on whole milk early was? I'm also iffy on how long my 8 month old will keep nursing and would like to avoid formula...

our pedi wasn't to happy about it, it was our GI doc that wanted him on it.  My son was 9.10 at birth and just hit 16pounds at 9m.  At 4m old he had only gained a couple pounds and dropped to 3% than 1%.  One month he only gained 2oz.  He loved to nurse and started solids at 6m but still struggled to gain.  We did a bunch of blood test and urine test and they all came back great.  He's meeting all his mile stones so we've just come to the conclusion that he is lean!  The GI wants him on full fat, he should have 6-8oz a day of whole milk.  He refused formula so we couldn't go that route.  He's also on a breakfast drink to help add calories.  He is FINALY gaining since he started it and for the first time since birth my baby has the start of a fat roll on his thighs!  But it is not recommended before 1 typically for milk.

i did start my first 3 boys at 10 months and they were all just fine.

I'm still nursing my 23mo (DD2) but we've cut it down to once per day (in anticipation of a weekend getaway so my parents can watch the kids without her losing her mind). DD2 has had a terrible milk allergy since she was a baby and didn't STTN until we took her and I off dairy again at 18mos. I've been hesitant to wean her since she otherwise drinks almond milk and I'm not 100% about it being sufficient. BUT she has been tolerating dairy much better in the last month so we're adding it back in gradually.

It seems my hopes of weaning might come true? He's still nursing, but I don't seem to have any milk. I tried to express some and couldn't even get a drop out. I was surprised!

Sounds like he is dry nursing, I'd say time to help him wean if you're ready, @lovelongdog06

My problem is that nursing is our crutch for naptime and bedtime. He's been going to sleep without it at night about 50/50 but I fear if I wean him he won't nap for me. He's been sleeping epic all night stretches too, so do I really want to lose my magic method? :/

@Pinkshades05 I would say don't worry about almond milk being sufficient. DS also experienced some bad reactions to regular cows milk and I had to switch him to soy/almond. The doctor and my aunt (who is super into clean eating) reassured me that soy/almond milk was just as nutrient rich as cows milk. DS drank it for about 3 years and LOVED it! The Dr seemed to think thi allergy/reaction may go away over time so I've recently started him back on cows milk (just because it's easier for me to buy one kind of milk and he goes to school now) and he seems fine. No bad reactions like last time.

Still nursing my 25 month old but trying to wean him! I nursed him through my last pregnancy (which sadly ended in the baby dying at 21 weeks in April, which turned out to be a blessing when he was still nursing when my milk came in from that pregnancy.) Surprisingly, my nipples haven't hurt this time - though last time they were killing me! My supply definitely took a hit after my first trimester last time. This time I'm down to 2-3 times a day - he's just so stubborn!

@KirstinH88 What was his severe reaction to it?? This makes me feel a little better. I haven't had a chance to consult her pediatrician so I never felt confident about the decision to do almond milk.

@amwangel I'm so sorry for your loss :( I hope this pregnancy is a positive experience!

@pinkshades05 He would throw up everything, everywhere. Anytime he had milk (which was a lot). And as a 1 year old, he couldn't really hold it until he made it to the garbage, toilet, or even the kitchen floor. It was a very rough few months until I could figure out what was triggering the throw up. His pediatricians were honestly useless in this particular situation.

I'm thinking weekly nursing moms check-in? I need some serious motivation to continue BFing through this pregnancy!
