@frogdog06 I bought a Yeti tumbler on Amazon at the beginning of the summer to carry around LO1 milk in the diaper bag and I just pour the milk right into the container. But you could probably fit a bottle and some ice water in there if you wanted to leave the milk in the bottle. They're kinda expensive, I think mine was $40? But they are known to keep liquids ice cold for up to 24 hrs.
@frogdog06 I don't remember seeing that one. I think I'm 2k posts behind on the randoms thread LOL.
I am currently using Avent manual pump which I love. There is a cap for the flange so I just cap it and put whole thing in fridge. The cold flange actually feels really good when I take it out. If I'm engorged (which hasn't been an issue now that we're feeding every 2 hours) the cold silicone is really soothing. This pump wouldn't be great if you're trying to pump for every feed. But I'm using it for a 0.5 - 1 oz pump after every feed and the occasional prefeed if I'm really full and little one can't latch on. We're using Avent bottles so pumps right in to the bottle. I wash it twice a day and store in fridge (pump attached to bottle) in between.
@izzetoot@frogdog06 great idea for the milk storage. Just an FYI, Yeti lost their patent and their idea has been picked up by other (less expensive) companies. We bought an Ozark Trail one from Wallies for less than half the price and it works just as great!!
@frogdog06, I also watched on the news where they test trialed the Yeti to the exact same Walmart style one. They both held ice water 24 hrs the same. Must be the patent thing. My advice: buy a cheap one, put ice water in it overnight and see what it looks like in the morning.
I think Arctic is the brand that's the exact same as Yeti
@seitzy3 bless your perineum! My dr gave me 80mg Ibuprophen and Percocet last time but I only needed one Percocet on the third day after she was born. I don't know why, but that day was really bad and I couldn't sit. I would definitely call your doctor!
Can confirm that the Ozark knock off works just as well BUT if you drop it, it will bend and be worthless. The lid won't fit right and it will dribble everywhere. But for $10, I just bought another. That's the beauty of Walmart. Lol.
@izzetoot Never thought to put a bottle in one - thanks for the great idea!
@MrsVoorhees the Rtic is the one I have. It's pretty much identical to my husband's Yeti. We've both accidently picked up each other's cups before. The 30 oz are $15 on Amazon prime.
@UnwritteN12 - just checking back in, happy to hear the nexium is working!! It typically is still weight-based when used in kiddos, so the dose might need to be adjusted as she bulks up!
I'm almost a month post partum and I still take Motrin every day! Ugh. I've tried to wean myself but it hasn't gone too well. Does anyone else still get headaches? Maybe it's a preeclampsia residual symptom? Maybe it's sleep deprivation? In other news- I'm finally done bleeding! Woo!!!
@mom2adoodle mind my forgetfulness, but did you get an epidural? Is it possible that could be the cause of the remaining headache? I've heard that's possible.
@mom2adoodle I'm trying to limit the intake of painkillers as well (LO turns three weeks on Wednesday!), but I'll pop an ibuprofen as needed. I continue to take my prenatals and stool softeners, but had to introduce a Claritin daily to mitigate the pad rash on my bum. I am seriously over the bleeding and everything else going on down there. Plus I wish I could be intimate with DH again, but that's a bridge to cross later on.
@rock1cherry I did indeed get an epidural. You might be on to something! Hopefully it goes away soon..
@frogdog06 Sometimes my stitches still hurt down there Earth Mama Angel Baby new mama spray has helped a lot. I don't even want to THINK about sex. EEK! I'm truly afraid. And I have 0 sex drive right now. This should be interesting down the road...lol
@mom2adoodle does it seem to get better if you lay down? I would bring it up to your doctor when you can. Those types of headaches can go away on their own, but if they don't it could lead to worse issues which are super rare. Hope you're feeling better really soon!!
Anyone else end up with 3rd or 4th degree tears? I'm almost a full week out and I still can't function without lots of pain meds. The nurse that came to my house said that there is a specialist here who sees woman with 3rd and higher to help with recovery. I guess they do physio and "help prepare for sexual interfourse" when healed. Not sure how that works haha. I don't think I'm going to go but it definitely makes me happy that the hospital takes these things serious enough to have a Dr dedicated to help woman with this.
@AshleyB09042015 sorry to hear you're dealing with a bad tear. I see a pelvic floor physiotherapist to help with sensitivity of my vagina and she also helps women post partum. She has helped me tons already so I figure she could also help PP women! It's probably something similar
Guise, can we please discuss the hemorrhoid issue?? I apologize if this has already been brought up. I have never had a hemorrhoid in my life. I finally had my first BM two days ago, and another yesterday. Even though the movement itself wasn't bad at all, there was blood in the toilet and when I wiped. It is rather an unpleasant feeling. Do these go away on their own, or should I do something to help it heal faster? What do I do for relief?
@TheTamedShrew I never had one until after I had DS either and they are the worst! Which hazel helps, tucks and making sure you don't strain when having a BM (take a stool softener if you need to). Eventually they *should* go away on their own although mine never truly did. If they stay after this baby too I plan on discussion surgical removal with my OB but that is not common.
My midwife also suggested to apply raw potatoes to decrease the swelling? I never tried it, but if you don't have anything else handy it might work. You can get OTC hemorrhoid creme too...
The blood in the stool could be from internal hems. Not all go away after pregnancy. Surgical removeing of them is extreamly painful and they can still return.
@shiva14@asht OMG I never heard of surgical removal. I seriously hope mine go back inside..
@TheTamedShrew I am a hemorrhoid expert at the moment. I use the Tucks wipes, Earth Mama Angel Baby bottom spray, hemorrhoid cream, and diaper rash cream in the crack to alleviate the itching. If it's really bad, I do a sitz bath with a motherlove sitz bath concentrate. I also had to take Claritin to mitigate the itching. Wearing a non-breathable pad 24/7 did not help, so I turned the pads "upside down" so the wider part is up front, and so less of the pad is covering my rear end.
@TheTamedShrew I got them too But they went away quickly! I just sprayed earth mama angel baby mama bottom spray and bam. They were never too painful. But the stitches were
Did I miss the bleeding discussion? One day it is minimal and the next back to period bleeding. Is this normal?
As for pain meds, I'm about a week n half out and I stopped a few days ago and now everything is sore down there. DH saying don't stop cold turkey especially since I have stitches.
I still have headaches and take Motrin and Tylenol for them. I've been back for 1w and 2w follow ups after hospital discharge to follow my BP, which is still elevated but not awful (high 130s over mid 90s). I have a home monitor that is pretty in line with the readings taken at hospital so they want me to check daily and keep a log. (Guess I'll just add it to the baby's feedings log!) I was last in the clinic yesterday so I guess I better figure this out.
Bleeding still but I'm not quite 3w PP. some days it's nothing and other days quite a bit. I still have uterine pain / cramps at times. My mommy diaper rash was really uncomfortable. What I did was sacrifice two of the microfiber diaper inserts and use them over night so my bits could "breathe." I alternate one per night and handwash the other. They dry pretty quickly. I like the backwards pad idea!
Hemorrhoids. I've had them for 18 years which is when I was pregnant with my first. They get better over time if you stay on top of managing them. Basically, you can't ever get dehydrated because they'll flare up again.
i worked for two general surgeons who would do internal hemorrhoidectomies (surgical removal). They wouldn't take the case unless they were bad (I'm talking huge prolapse where the person couldn't sit without the 'roid flaring in pain). This is because like PP said, the recovery from the surgery is tremendously painful and the likelihood of recurrence is high. I remember one of the docs would warn his patient "you're going to curse my name every time you go #2 for the next 6 weeks"
external ligations weren't as bad for the patients but will only treat the ones that are on / around the outside.
I can't tag people on my laptop for some reason- but in regards to the pelvic floor therapy- there is a lady who does that here in my area.....supposed to do wonder for PP if needed. Sorry to hear about that though- I'm a little concerned about that myself....I have done 0 Kegels the last 9 months.....0
The doula that taught our labor & delivery classes said that at the 100 day post birth point- overall- you will start to feel like your old self again- so I hope that is a little ray of light for all of us to hang on to!
@jensou The mommy diaper rash is no joke! I had to put The Honest Co healing balm on the front side because we're wearing pads 24/7. I recall seeing The Honest Co / 7th Gen feminine products on my last trip to Target, so will switch over on my next trip. I'm hoping the more "natural" feminine care products are more breathable than the Always line. The top of my toilet is littered with diaper rash cream, diaper rash balm, hemorrhoid cream, Tucks, and a peri bottle. I didn't think I'd need to invest in mommy diaper care as much as LO diaper care!
That being said, if I feel the onset of soreness, I'll pop an ibuprofen...otherwise it hasn't been too bad. No cramping or anything. If I feel overly itchy, a Claritin helps.
@frogdog06 I have a mommy diaper rash stash too. When I first read your post I thought you meant you had that stuff smeared all over the toilet seat from sitting on it LOL because I have somehow gotten cream and such on my toilet seat. I've had to wipe that down so many times!!
I feel like such a yucky mess. Somehow I'm ok with my husband knowing about it, although previous to this birth I wouldn't even pass gas in front of him. Now I'm a Neanderthal and I don't care
@jensou LOL a Neanderthal!! Hahaha. YES count me in on team Neanderthal now. I used to be so shy about that stuff but since giving birth it's a whole different ball game.
@jensou@mom2adoodle lmao, same!!! Now I'll whip out my boobs to pump and pee with the door open. Also, I am happy to report that the 7th Gen pads are much more comfortable than the Always!
Also, super random. I had garlicky pizza last night for dinner and LO was not having it with my breastmilk! Boo, and I'm a huge garlic fan.
So... In case you were tempted (but I'm guessing I'm the only nut job to try this). If you get to thinking, "I'm almost 3 weeks postpartum and I'm sick of bleeding and I think my vag feels alright now so I'm just gonna try a tampon..." Just know you're probably NOT ready and it's a really BAD idea.
@jensou - I have definitely wanted to but knew I couldn't. First off, yikes and I'm hoping you're ok. Secondly, thank you for taking the time to remind all of us because I doubt you and I are the only people to think about it!
Hi all..finally here to join the conversation because my pain has gone down enough that I can log in....this recovery has been a million times worse than my first CS...and let's not even talk about my poor nipples
Glad your pain has at least gone down @noelani42. Arrrggg....nipples. I'm pretty sure Oliver is going to rip mine to shreds now that I'm trying not to use the nipples shields anymore.
