1) I survived day one of being a single mom for the week (at least I'm a stay at home single mom)

2) I've gotten to the point that tonight I tried to reason with my 5 week old, and explain to him that he cannot cry because he is hungry and also cry when he is BFing (it is part of his witching hour routine). I think I've gone full mom-brained =)

  • Those of you who have brought your LO to the beach,  how did you pull it off? I want to but it's sooo hot I'm worried about over heating him.  This is the first summer in my life i haven't been to the beach! What did you dress them in? Did you leave them under the umbrella the whole time? Did you BF on the beach?? So many questions!!  :D
  • We put him in a breathable baby bathing suit (didn't put him in the water, just liked the suit for the material) and a little sun hat, then kept him under the umbrella the whole time we were there. I did BF on the beach under a light cover. The hardest thing was keeping the sand off of his stuff because I didn't really want to bring home a diaper bag full of sand! I would have brought his stuff in a temporary diaper bag if I'd thought about it so I could just dump all the sandy stuff in there and not mess up his everyday bag. As for the heat, we were on the beach in Michigan so the heat was not terrible the day we went, but the umbrella definitely made a huge difference!

  • @kellz14 I took my LO to the zoo and it is really hot today. Kept him out of the sun and nursed him more often than he might otherwise. He was a little sweaty, but not miserable. He pretty much slept the whole time which isn't that odd for him (3.5 weeks).

Kyle's tear duct is blocked and his eye is leaking all this gunk, it looks horrible. I googled it and it said to try and massage it so I'll try that and see if it helps. We also booked his baptism today, I have 7 weeks to try and fit into the dress I bought. I've had nothing but problems with the dress since I bought it, the first one they sent out was like 3 sizes too small and this one I have is advertised a certain size but it no where near fits me and it should! I may just have to buy another dress, such a waste of money!

  • @LF93 E had a blocked tear duct on Sunday. I held a warm washcloth over it and massaged the inside corner and it worked like a charm! It was pretty nasty though.

@schaze Yeah I gave it a massage earlier and by the looks of it it seems to be helping already. I'll try the warm wash cloth in the morning if it hasn't improved over night!

  • @LF93- S had the same thing last weekend and I put a little breast milk on it and it cleared up really fast.  Our pedi suggested the warm washcloth at every feed too but I only did it once.
  • @kellz14 I brought LO to the beach his week, but definitely too young to be on the beach. He's only 3 weeks as of yesterday so he's only going shopping and out to eat. Y'all that actually brought them on the beach are brave!
  • We took M to the beach yesterday and today! He's almost seven weeks. It was actually pretty chilly and windy both days. I kept him in the carrier the whole time and made sure he stayed warm. The car ride was 3.5 hrs each way which was what I was more worried about but it went off without a hitch! We're going back to the beach on Friday and it will be hotter so we are bringing a beach tent to keep him in the shade. Good call @winnie1122 on the idea to not bring the regular diaper bag and get sand in it. I'll probably just put his necessities in a beach bag.
  • @whataboutscience Agreed. I would go to bed when LO goes to bed but DH and I want to watch the Olympics prime time. Ah well. Only happens once every 4 years.
  • @arhodes6 That sounds heavenly! Though, I'd be like you, constantly checking. Mine went a little over 5 hours once and I shot up out of bed wondering why she was still asleep. Plus, once they're down, it's not like you just go straight to sleep yourself. You finally get time to do those dishes and laundry and maybe take a shower and eat some food!
  • Mine slept for 5 hours after being super fussy from 10pm-12am last night. I woke up every half hour starting at 3:30am to check on her. I really hope that becomes a bit of a regular thing so I can get used to it and get some sleep. I'm barely surviving on how little sleep I get every night and it's only 3 weeks in.
  • Anyone else experiencing the 6 week growth spurt? DS is eating like crazy and not sleeping as well....starting to drive me crazy
  • @FTM53- Yes! The last 2 days DD2 ate every hour. Then last night she slept for 3 hours straight (thankfully!) but then my breast was too full.
  • @austinjl YES! Especially when he's nursing. His ears, his fingers...
  • So I got a surprise when I went to change DS' diaper...he wasn't done pooping! Yay? Maybe at least I prevented a blowout?
  • @FTM53 LO shot his across the room like a projectile missile at 1w/o. I then found remnants on his diaper genie a week later next to his changing table :weary:

@FTM53 Yup this happened to me too. Though instead of Kyle just pooping he then proceeded to pee all over me!
I'm kind of annoyed right now, the past week I've gotten up with Kyle for his morning feed. As soon as he begins to stir I take him out of the bed room so BF can sleep, I asked BF to get up this morning and when Kyle started to stir I elbowed him to tell him to get up! It takes him the next 30 minutes to drag himself out of bed all the while Kyle is getting fussier and fussier. Theres no way I'm getting another hours sleep. Wtf.

  • I'm trying to figure out how much or often spitting up is normal. I've researched reflux and I don't think my daughter has that...maybe silent reflux at best. But she spits with every feeding (we burp halfway through) and typically a couple times each burp session. She's breast fed, so maybe it's something I'm eating? Or maybe she just has an under developed digestive system?
  • @LDSJM123 Sounds like mine, he spits up several times each feeding, but it doesn't seem to bother him and he's been gaining like a champ. Our pedi said it was probably just minor reflux and it would improve as his digestive system matures. As long as it doesn't seem to negatively affect baby it sounds normal from all I've read and heard.

  • @LDSJM123 @winnie1122 my LO spits up every feeding, too! He's gaining really good so I don't see an issue with it. I have bad reflux myself. I'm guessing he'll probably suffer with it later in life.
  • @LDSJM123 My DD did have reflux and was medicated for it. If she's gaining weight well and doesn't seem o be in pain, then there's no reason to treat it. Most all babies have some degree of reflux if they spit up because they do have immature digestive systems. It's just a matter of knowing when to do something about it. My DS has been spitting up quite a bit lately, but he doesn't seem to mind at all.

  • Yep, same with the spitting up. Pedi suggested keeping her semi upright after feeds for 30 minutes, and I was reading that actually having them on their belly helps too. I've started putting her up in my chest and it seems to help and she's less fussy at night that way.  Nighttime feeds are tough though because I fall asleep and then freak out so I got a crib wedge for under her mattress too.  The laundry is real though.
  • For my LOs reflux and gas our pedi suggested upright for 20-30 min after which helps some but BFing her with her head above her stomach, so having her sitting slightly has worked wonders especially with her gas.
  • @winnie1122 oh man...give me some of that baby pixie dream dust!
    Glad you are well rested!

  • LO didn't sleep through the night.. but i finally gave up the reigns and let DH give him a bottle of breastmilk for two feedings overnight. I still woke up, but didn't get out of bed. I got so much more sleep and feel human again!

LO got a lip/tongue tie release done on wednesday. It's going to be good for him in the long run, but he's been in pain recovering. Yesterday he cried so much all day, I couldn't take it. We were both bawling all afternoon. Finally around 1pm I texted DH and asked him to take off of work on Friday, because I can't do this by myself another day. This is very much unlike me - He's so perceptive and responsible that I never have to actually ask something like that of him.  Thankfully he came home that moment and worked out with his boss to work from home today, and work just enough to get a few things done then sign off.  Hence why I gave in and let him just feed LO overnight.. it was 100% necessary for my mental stability.

Now I'm back to my boobs being jealous of the bottle and can't wait to feed him again when he wakes up :)
  • This may fit well in mom confessions too. DH has been off due to the rain...annoying but what can you do. We may have spent two days watching the entire season of Stranger Things!  :# DD1 started school and DD2 is still sleeping most of the day at 3 weeks.
  • Man I wish I was lucky enough for her to sleep through the night.

Also unfortunately it looks like I am having gallbladder issues which sucks so much!
