EBF questions

My LO is 4 mo now and started sucking his thumb. I did when I was a baby and I didn't stop til I was 12! So we tried the paci again (haven't since he was 2 mo) and he really loves it. Anyone else EBF and baby takes a pacifier? For some reason I feel like it may mess with nursing?

Re: EBF questions

  • My LO is 1 week shy of 4 months and just found his thumb too. We've tried the pacifier soo many times up to this point and he just doesn't like it. However, with all the times we've held it in his mouth to try to get him used to it, it's never affected nursing. I think they're at the age now where they're past nipple confusion and know what's what. Lol I don't care if he likes his thumb or the paci - I'm just THRILLED he's finally self soothing!

  • DD takes a pacifier and has since she was about 4 weeks old. It doesn't mess with her BF'ing and she sucks her thumb, too :)
  • Will not take a paci. We tried it, but he hated it. He likes to stick all his fingers in his mouth and blow raspberries to soothe himself.
  • I ebf'd all 4 of mine. My first two took a paci (no issues with bfing) and my last two were finger/thumb suckers (also no issues with bfing).

  • LO only nursed for a week then bottle and paci. Tried nursing again at 14 weeks and he like it. He doesn't seem confused even though he was on the bottle and paci long before nursing.
  • My LO hates pacifiers, but you don't have to worry about it affecting breastfeeding. Nipple confusion is a myth. (Especially this far into it)
