Baby Moon!

Since we're all pretty well into our second trimester, anyone planning a Baby Moon??

My husband wants to have one last weekend get away with just the two of us before the baby gets here. Even if it's a local hotel just to get away from life for a bit.

I can't wait to decide so we can have a weekend to just DO NOTHING.

  • We kinda are, too. H's band is playing a music festival that's a few hours away. They're comping us with a free cabin for 4 nights and free VIP festival passes, so that's what we're doing! Music season is in full swing until early November, so if our babymoon didn't involve the band in some way, it wouldn't get to happen!

  • We aren't.  My husband was laid off this summer, so hasn't want to plan any trips in case he gets a job offer.  I'm also trying to save up all my PTO for the end of the year so I can use it before going on maternity leave.

We are planning a get away for my birthday in February.  We moved out of NYC last year and are planning on going back for the weekend.  Going to our old sushi place and staying at a hotel his company used to have him stay at during conferences when we first started dating.  I'm excited for the weekend now- but we'll see how I feel when the reality of leaving my 1 month old with my parents kicks in.

  • Sort of- H is shooting for his documentary in NYC and I'm tagging along- he'll be busy most of the time but that means I get to explore AMNH solo which is amaaaazing! We'll also do a weekend fall trip up north for the leaves changing. I keep thinking we'll use some of my miles and head over to the PNW for a long weekend too but I just don't think I have the energy for that anymore

We have a 20 month old, but are still planning to do a Babymoon (with DD) some time in October. It will be our last trip as a family of 3. Thinking Palm Springs (we are from Vancouver, BC and been there before). We did Maui before DD was born.
  • We are! Planning to go to Longboat Key, FL in mid-Oct. for some much needed relaxation. Most of our trips are filled with nonstop activity and adventure, so it will be nice to have a vacay to just enjoy the beach and each other before life gets cray. Hoping Zika doesn't spoil the plans, but everything is refundable so we can always cancel last minute if needed.
  • maybe. not sure where we'd go. we have a week off together in november. i feel like everywhere i'd want to go has zika concerns.
  • My husband won a 3 day 2 night stay in a raffle at a work conference back in June so we will be using it as our baby moon! It's to the Hilton in Destin, FL. It's a beautiful resort and should be nice and relaxing. Planning for sometime in October!

  • I've been thinking about this topic a lot! DH has no vacation time left this year but I'd really like to do some sort of Babymoon to coincide with our wedding anniversary in October. We'll probably do a weekend in the Cotswolds or a nice countryside town that's easily accessible from London. Definitely want somewhere I can get a prenatal massage!

  • I'd like to and we'll see. Our anniversary is in September and with our first we combined an anniversary trip with a baby moon and did a weekend in Chicago. We are talking about doing the same sort of thing this year just to get away for a weekend. I am trying to conserve PTO so it would be another weekend trip but it's a nice little break from reality.

  • I would really love to go to a warm beach for a week and spend time together BUT we are so focused on paying off debt and saving out PTO that we won't be able to get away like that (not to mention Zika). We are planning to head out into the Swell in Utah for a weekend away together. We did it for my birthday two years ago and had a wonderful weekend. That area is so peaceful and beautiful. Although a slot canyon will be a bit more difficult with a big belly!

  • Our 2nd wedding anniversary is at the beginning of October, and I would LOVE to go back to Savannah, where we got engaged.  I'm not sure if it'll be miserable or not with all the walking it entails. Might just go to a local resort instead. We shall see!

  • I'd like to, but I think what is more likely is that we'll send DD to Grandma's or a friend's house and have a staycation to try and finalize prep before this baby comes.
  • We sort of are, as well! My fiancee is working in Spokane, WA this month and I will be visiting him there in a few weeks. I am so excited, it's my first time in that area of the country. We are planning on going to Idaho and Montana since it's about an hour away from where he is.

  • Yep! Going away next week with DH. We never went on a honeymoon, and have never been away from dd1. Yay
  • @aels12 We're doing the same thing! I don't know if it's technically a baby moon but H and I are taking Owen to Chicago labor day weekend as a last family trip for the 3 of us. Owen has never been to any big city and I'm so excited to see his reaction to the aquarium, bean, Sears tower, etc.

  • @gonetothesea ohh--have so much fun! My husband and I went to college at SCAD and his parents happen to live there... miss it every day! You should have great weather, plus pregnancy is the perfect excuse to utilize the pedicabs they have all over! ;)

Between traveling for the shower, Thanksgiving and other odds and ends, we decided to stick close-to-home for our babymoon. We're going to Catalina Island for a long weekend, since we've never been. Hoping it's fun! Everyone else's plans sound amazing!

  • We might attempt a weekend away in November or early December to somewhere within two hours of us. We would leave DD with grandparents. We did have a fun trip planned to go to San Diego in early October but my husband's boss decided to take vacation at the same time and not put it on their work calendar. He told my husband that we couldn't be out of town. We had to cancel. It was going to be DD's 2nd bday present.
  • We sort of did one in July-- we had our vacation already planned with our normal group (two of my high school best friends and their husbands and kids) before we found out we were pregnant and it already included 2 days in Disney World just the two of us. We almost canceled it when we found out, but decided to keep it since who knows when or if that will ever happen again!  We'd like to do a weekend in Pigeon Forge this fall, but not sure if it'll work out.

  • We kinda are. But we won't be alone it's a group family trip to hawaii. I know most people want to be alone with their SO but my in laws offered up a trip before the baby comes so we are going in september. Maybe we should just do a weekend at a hotel or something nearby before she comes though I dunno I guess I didn't really understand baby moons were supposed to be romantic!
  • That's a great idea catalina is fun and easy!
  • Our anniversary is over Labor day weekend so we're combining the two. We're taking off Thursday night for a little five day getaway, but aren't going too far. Crater Lake and a few other lakes near there, plus a couple cute towns in southern Oregon. We'll do a surf trip (H will surf; I will get massages.) or two in October/November on the Oregon Coast. We were going to go to Paris to meet up with some friends, but the dates interfered with my work.
  • @gonetothesea  I absolutely love Savannah.  We were actually considering going there, but I have done quite a bit of work travel during this pregnancy (as has my husband), and I'll be flying back home for my shower too.  I just don't really want to go sit through more airplane travel, even if it's for something fun, unfortunately.  I think we may just spend a long weekend away at a local destination that's drivable from our home.  Savannah would have been a top contender for me though!
  • Oh, I wish! Money's a bit tight lately with 2 car payments, 2 sets of student loans, and only one income.  This is entirely our choice as I'm a stay at home mom, and we both feel that it's worth sacrificing the extra income I'd bring in, but a vacation with just the two of us would be lovely if we could afford it! We are expecting that DH will get a pretty significant raise soon because he takes what we hope will be the final part of the CPA exam in 2 weeks, but we'll be saving the money for some other things that we need for a while.  Our hope is that we'll finally be able to go on our honeymoon for our 5th wedding anniversary in a few years (couldn't afford it when we first got married because we were fresh out of college) - so I'm anxiously crossing my fingers for New Orleans in 2019, which is where we would've gone when we got married if we could have.

Hope you all have fun! :)

  • You all have such great ideas!

I'm torn on whether or not a baby moon will happen for us? We're going to NH this weekend with my parents for a mini getaway but next month is our 1 year wedding anniversary so I was planning to do a baby moon then.... Except now we're buying a house in October and going away to Florida with family the week of Thanksgiving.

I feel like I'm being selfish if I spend money for us to get away alone but it was always something we planned on, I'm so torn! Any suggestions?

  • @BriannaE129129 Sounds like you have some fun things coming up in the next few months! A little staycation might be a great thing to do for a weekend. Are you currently renting? If so, I would recommend doing a staycation before you move in to your new home and all the projects start! That might be tricky with packing though... Do you and your husband like to camp? Perhaps there's a lovely spot near your home where you can take off to for a night or two? Otherwise, maybe plan a few date nights at home! I was torn about a babymoon, too. So much going on, and so much to buy and save for with a baby coming! We're only going about 2.5 hours away, but I do think it will really feel like a getaway.

    Congrats on the new home!
  • A babymoon is one thing I've worked really hard to fit in, as I know it will be a long time before I'll be able to have a chance to get away with DH for an extended time (I breastfed my daughter until 22 months).  We did this before our DD was born and I'm very thankful we did.

We're just doing a 3-day weekend drive up to Portsmouth, NH and Kennebunkport, ME.  Open to restaurant and sight-seeing suggestions!

Check Groupon!! I always check them when DH and I book a hotel, even if it's just for a night. For DH's birthday last year we spent the weekend at Niagara Falls using a Groupon deal.  We spent a total of I think $100 on the hotel and the Groupon included restaurant, casino, and winery vouchers.  We didn't use all of them because DD was with us, and at 5 months old she was obviously not going to do well at a casino or a winery haha.  But if we had gone on a kid less trip, we would've really made out with all of that for only $100! Even so, we had a great mini vacation for way less than I would've thought.

  • We are kind of on the fence about a baby moon. We've been fortunate to have been on some nice vacations already this year, but all with family, which can at times be more stressful than relaxing. My husband and I haven't been away by ourselves in a while. We were originally thinking we'd go to Miami for a few days in October, but as of now that's out due to Zika.

Also, we are currently in CA with my ILs and I had major travel anxiety the other night before we left. I think it was exacerbated by some other stuff that was going on, but I realllly did not want to get on the plane. It's our 2nd cross country trip since I've been pregnant, and I'm thinking when we get home I might be done flying for the duration.

So if anything we might end up going somewhere in New England (driving distance from NY) for a few days in October. But I'm also kind of ambivalent about the idea right now and feel like the money we'd spend could be put to better use furnishing the nursery or doing other projects around the house. I think this means the nesting urge is starting to kick in?!
  • @shlecka Enjoy Disney without kids :) I'm looking forward to taking my kids there someday but it's definitely a different kind of fun when there aren't kids.

  • @canavara and @adorebella we are doing Chicago too. It's not far from my house, so it will be a good place to vacation since its our first time leaving our daughter.
  • @curlysue22 We're going to Portsmouth too! We love it there and I ended up using Hilton points for the hotel so that didn't cost us anything! It's such a great place! If you like nachos then you definitely have to go to Agave and get their chicken nachos.... but be hungry :) I also like the brewery tour at Portsmouth Brewery but this time I'll be watching while my husband enjoys the beer

  • @gonetothesea I graduated from Georgia Southern which is 45 minutes outside of SAV. One of my favorite places for sure!

We are heading to Seattle for labor day weekend. Going to see Dave Matthews at the Gorge
  • We were supposed to go on an all-inclusive private island trip to Belize with some of my best friends and their SOs. Unfortunately the Zika scare has caused us to back out. I am so sad we have to miss that trip but we are going to take the kiddos on an RV adventure in the national parks of AZ and Zion. I think this new trip will be super fun too and even better that we get to take the kids.
