I keep getting this overwhelming urge to deep clean my house....while I'm at work. Only when I'm at work. It's almost painful lol My office is now the cleanest it's ever been. Like, people have commented. And my book shelves with my pictures have been organized so that now I will have some room to put pictures of Claire when she's born. But my house....still a mess. I just don't have the energy once I'm home and DD1 is there!
Nesting? What is that? Is there some magical fairy that is going to come smack me with her wand? I have had zero desire to nest, clean, organize or do anything related to that...
It's funny you posted this today because I woke up at 5:15 and needed to clean my closet. I was trying to quietly rustle around in there and not wake up my husband. Now, it is pretty fantastic and I got rid of a bunch of stuff, looked forlornly at my skinny jeans and put them away with other stuff I hope to fit into again (maybe next year).
I have a lot of desire to nest, but absolutely no follow through on any of it, lol. I have a list of things that need cleaning/organizing... does that count?
My nesting has only applied to the nursery and baby laundry thus far. I am really hoping to get some crazy energy and apply it to getting my workload ready so I can go out and focus on the baby for three months... I don't think that's how it works, but I am nothing if not foolishly optimistic!
I've kind of been on a nesting rampage to the point where DH was like "I've heard about this, you're nesting!". I made our master to do lists and then actually used them. Lets see... I washed all the baby clothes and linens, I set up the PnP we're using as a crib since our place is tiny, DH and I hung the frame collage I made for her artwork, we took apart the change table and sanded/painted it, got the carseat bases installed in our cars, had my car detailed, packed my hospital bag with as much as I could... yeah that about covers it. I do feel the need to clean our house, but my back is so sore that it overrides that desire. Plus I hired a house keeper for a week before I'm due, and she said she can reschedule if the baby decides to come earlier.
I wasn't really nesting until 6 am this morning. I woke up with a solution to a problem I didn't know we had. Someone is giving us a lot of bookshelves, but I wasn't really thrilled with putting them in the living room. I realized if DH and I purged a lot of unneeded clothing we could move the extra dressers out of the office and put the bookshelves in there. We have four huge bags heading off to Goodwill right now. Then I hired two kids to help move the dressers and the bookshelves and rented a uhaul for tomorrow. Then I decided to begin to rearrange the kitchen and deal with boxes in the living room that need to be emptied. All in the past seven hours.....I told DH if we go to 40 weeks (three weeks exactly from today) we will have the most organized house in NJ.
I was starting to think I wasn't going to get the desire to nest but thankfully this week we were very productive. We finally moved all of the baby's stuff from the living room into his room...holy moly I didn't realize how much we had! But it feels nice to finally have it all organized.
We have a cleaning lady come every other week, but next week we are having her do a deep cleaning. I also went through our kitchen cabinets and pitched everything expired or near expired that I know we won't use. Probably tossed 80% of our spices. I did not realize how long we've had some of them. I felt bad doing it because I hate wasting food, but it's so nice to have nice clean organized cabinets.
My entire house needs to be cleaned today. Instead I washed all the clothes we've bought/been gifted since I washed the last batch and put together the RNP. Priorities.....
h and I (mostly h) cleaned out our hallway and guest room, now nursery, closet this morning and I just realized I hoard pillows and sheets. Soooo many sheets

I also did my underwear drawer! And then H was like "Ohhh that looks nice" and did his! Haha
I made my husband help me rearrange our bedroom to fit a small couch and the crib so I don't disturb DS1 with night feedings since they will be sharing a room eventually.
I want to nest and clean and organize everything, but I keep getting so mad at my husband for playing video games while I am running around like a crazy person I just can't. Dammit.
@seitzy3 Too funny, I did mine this morning. Stored away all the sexy lacy ones that no longer fit or are uncomfortable. DH looked at me and was like "This is the part of our relationship where you go from sexy lace to respectable cotton, isn't it?" Just for now babe, just for now lol
@seitzy3 I hoard pillows, sheets and blankets. We have a king bed now, and one queen in the guest room, and never have guests. But i just cant get rid of all those queen sheets. And old pillows that we replaced because they're old af and flat? what if we neeeeed them???
Wrote this in randoms, but figured it fits here too!
Nesting has finally hit me. I organized our kitchen pantry from top to bottom. I got rid of food we don't eat and expired stuff. I also made a list of what we need to replace like spices, etc. I also cleaned and tidied up under the sink. Next up will be the upstairs bathroom closet. I need to make space for baby necessities. I'm also making dividers for her closet to separate clothing by size. We got sooo much so it will be nice to have it organized. Can't wait to get her furniture so I can put stuff away in her dresser. I hate the mess everywhere while we wait.
I just finished cleaning our kitchen and living room top to bottom! This was, however, not due to nesting but rather its first cousin - "my-mom-is-coming-over-in-the-am".
Still an effective way of getting cleaning started LOL
Right now I'm all about spending alllll day in the nursery folding things and putting things away and looking how tiny and cute everything is....but the rest of the house? Not so much.
Vacuuming! Organizing everything. Cleaning out closets and organizing shoes. Baby clothes, blankets, and towels are being washed and put away. It's like each evening I notice something then the next day I just do something about it. I don't feel any "bursts" of energy, I just have to get it done.
I can't wait to nest and I think DH is ready for me to nest too. I have been the complete opposite of nesting lately and the mess is piling up. DH helps, but he really does more outside than inside and summer keeps him busy.
Came home today after a ridiculously stressful day, hopped right in the car and went to pick up some paint. Came home and (re)painted baby's dresser -- yes, I had painted it a couple months ago but now decided that I hated the finish and it had to be redone in chalk paint. I was like a woman posessed -- it had to be done today before I could even think about cooking dinner. Just one more coat will be needed on the drawer pulls, and it'll be done. THEN I can finally put stuff away in it! Yay!
We just bought a new vacuum since ours was ready for the garbage. FI unpacked it from the box and checked it all out when we got it on Saturday. I, on the other hand, am pretending that it doesn't exist. I still don't even know how to turn it on.
I feel like I've been nesting my entire pregnancy. It has gotten worse though with my delivery date approaching. I just LOVE knowing things are super clean and organized. Instead of running my 4 miles a day, I now clean for 4 hours a day haha. Got up this morning and bought a new carpet cleaner at 8am. I'm the proud owner of soft, fluffy, clean carpets ;-)
I just used a rug Doctor on all of the rugs in the house. It wasn't a nesting thing per se. The dog threw up on a rug and since the thing is a 24 hour rental, I decided to get as much use as possible.
I cleaned the inside of the washing machine. We have a top loader and the part that sticks up in he middle has had some built up residue that's been grossing me out for a while. But then I accidentally scratched it with my fingernail and it scraped off. It was like "ew. These needs to be dealt with immediately." So I took a few minutes and scrubbed with a magic eraser. And afterwords I was like "well I run an empty load with vinegar. And I'll just leave the magic eraser scraps in there, cause they'll just dissolve anyway." Wrong. They came out squeaky clean. Who knew! Magic eraser: machine washable.
