Baby gear events - worth it? STMs w experience?

Has anyone gone to events like these?

I know very little about babygear, and am interested, but these seem SO EXPENSIVE especially to go browse a bunch of booths... not sure if these are worth it or if you're literally paying so you can go put your contact info onto a ton of marketing lists? 
Thoughts? Experiences?

    If it costs money I would say no. You could go to any baby store that has gear on display and the employees will go through how to use it with you.

    I wouldn't pay money for that. You can find a lot of info online (Lucy's List is a good resource) and go into stores.

    I went to a free baby expo, so of course there were vendors with coupons,giveaways, etc.  It was fun.  I wouldn't pay to go to one.

    So to me it depends. I see there's a swag bag. Sometimes for events like these the swag bags are way more valuable than the cost of admission  (one of the articles below said the bag was valued over $150) and then the gear people there usually have awesome coupons for gear etc. I'd do a little more digging to see if it's worth it. Mommycon for example has a discussion facebook group. I would look to see if there are any groups where you can ask moms that might have gone before. Or mom bloggers usually talk about their experiences going to these types of events. I have no doubt you'd be able to find something. Actually...

    The best places for gear are those mommy markets they have at local churches or rec centers that are like a giant yard sale for only kid/baby/maternity related items. We have a few in our local area and they are amazing.
