Doppler check in

The other thread got buried and cluttered. So let's revive it. How's the Doppler working for everyone these days? Questions or concerns? How often do you check?

Re: Doppler check in

  • I am really glad I bought my sonoline B. I used it 2X a day early on but now that I can feel a little movement I check every couple of days - more just cause it's fun than for stress relief.

  • I was checking about once a day - sometime twice. But now that she can hear, I am trying to go a few days between checking. When I do I keep it to under a minute.

  • Between weeks 14-16 I was checking it about once a day, I have now stopped checking it aa much and do it every few days. I have an anterior placenta so I can't feel baby yet and it is making me paranoid. I can hear the heartbeat strong and loud, I only do it for less than a minute once I find it.

Sometimes I will hear blips on the machine, anyone know what it is? I wonder if it is baby kicking.

Yes! Baby kicking! Im on baby #4 first anteior placenta  and i kind of love it!a haha. At 19 weeks im still sleeping great since i dont feel kicks as much
  • I stopped using mine after I had a scare at 16 weeks and couldn't pick up the heartbeat. It brought me more stress than relief.

  • We check once or twice a week. I feel a bunch of movement, so I use that as an indicator of health more than the doppler these days. But its a sweet connection to get to hear her heartbeat! Also, my LO runs from the doppler like it's her worst enemy!

  • I check about twice a week, whenever I start feeling worried (probably neurotic). I can always tell if they're head up or head down now, and getting them both/ telling them apart is super easy. I'm so glad I have it, especially as they get bigger if I feel one more than the other a quick check should calm me down!
  • I also want to say how much I love the sonoline B! So glad someone posted the Groupon link for it here. With that said, I have slowed down on checking LO's heartbeat. Maybe once or twice a week but it is such a sweet sound to hear! I can only get a good five seconds or so before I lose it, baby loves to move away from the doppler.

  • @cjs260 did I miss this?! Her?! A girl?!
  • Well now I feel like an insane person. I check at least once a day. Usually twice. I feel her kicking often. My husband, and even my mom have felt her...but I still check her heartbeat because I'm in denial. My name is ThePax and I love my Doppler.

Has anyone noticed that it is more difficult to find the heartbeat than before? And that it sounds different?

    @ThePax89 It's a her!!

ETA: Yes, I have a harder time finding the HB sometimes. Like I said, I have a runner, haha. I'll find it for like a second, then she'll move.

  • @thepax89 don't worry you're not the only one! I check at least once a day, even after I've had a great scan or check up. PGAL brains never turn off. Luckily I've only had one incident of not being able to find the HB right away, but otherwise it's helped my anxiety so so much. You're not insane if it makes you feel better!!!
  • I definitely have been checking at least once a day and that will continue until I can feel movement.

  • I was checking every day from weeks 10 to 18, but I'm only doing it once every 2 or 3 days now since I feel him kicking me every couple of hours lately. I kind of thought it would get like way easier to find his heartbeat since he's bigger now but it's stayed about the same? Kinda weird.
  • I check every 2-3 days and always right before my doctors appointments.

  • I've been checking every 3 or 4 days. I brought it with me to Europe to calm myself down. So far so good.

Baby is definitely fighting me now though. I'll find the heartbeat, feel a few kicks, and can't find the heartbeat again for a while.
  • I don't have much trouble finding them because they're already getting cramped- nowhere to go bwahahaha let me hear your heartbeaaaaaat!!! (Baby A is a little tougher though because my placenta wraps around her and she faces my back a lot, according to the umpteen ultrasounds we've had)
  • @meweiss that does make me feel better. Dd1 would go long long periods without kicking, so I swore I would buy a Doppler as soon as I got pregnant again. I wish I had one with her. I wasn't even PGAL with her.
  • I listen to mine every night before I go to bed.  I'm feeling some movement but it is inconsistent.  With my son I could always hear the HB right away with no problem.  This one flees from the doppler and I have to chase her all over my uterus to hear her HB.  Even if I catch her right away, within 15 seconds she moves somewhere else.

  • @thepax89 don't feel crazy - I have the luxury of a husband who has access to a sonogram when ever I want. We go pretty much every Sunday to peek in. I'm sure if I didn't have that I would Doppler way more.

  • I still listen every couple of days, but feel kicks so often now that I don't need to as much.  I usually listen after workouts and if I don't feel movement for awhile and it gives me peace of mind.

  • I'll join the crazy club. I still check every day. I have an anterior placenta and will occasionally feel stuff.
  • @ThePax89 yes! The heartbeat sound has really changed! I have a hard time trying to compare it to something but it seems like each best kind of fluctuates to a louder/higher pitch sound at the end of each beat.

Also I check every couple days, but sometimes every day too. I haven't really felt any movement yet (anterior placenta) and I'm sure frequency will decrease when movement becomes more consistent
Baby Boy 3 is on the way!

  • @scgirl6113 yes perfectly described. I meant to ask my midwife about the change in sound but I forgot.

Has as anyone noticed that the heartbeat is more "faint" then it had been. By faint I don't mean that the hr is any lower, I just mean less loud, and more of background noise to the other noises? I think olive likes to hide.

I think baby B is like, directly under my skin on the right and A is wayyyy further back. She also likes to turn her back to the Doppler, so A is always much quieter than B
  • @ThePax89 glad you have noticed that change in sound also! It has me slightly worried (this is the first pregnancy I have used an at home Doppler). But I don't have another appointment for several weeks and didn't feel sure that it warrants a phone call especially since it's hard to describe and the heart rate is right on track.
Baby Boy 3 is on the way!

  • I'm always worried about calling @scgirl6113 with questions about the Doppler, I always feel like they will think I'm a nut. For me, as long as I hear the heartbeat, and the pace is okay, and I don't hear any strange rhythms, I feel okay.
  • I have a stupid anterior placenta this time around so Doppler use was exhausting for a while (I'm obese so I have extra layers to go through on top of my placenta lol) so I just sucked up the anxiety and prayed for the best. I use it maybe 1x a week now for reassurance, especially since I can feel movement.

I finally bought a doppler a few weeks ago. I'd say that I check about two or so times a week... I just want to remember that it's real.
No feeling the baby yet. But I'm a FTM, so maybe I am and I'm confusing it. Still early so I'm not concerned, plus very strong HB

    Eta:words
  • I bought a doppler at around 9 weeks (I had a miscarriage in January at 13 weeks and needed the reassurance in this pregnancy!!) and was able to hear baby right away. Now i'm at 19 weeks and since I have been able to feel baby moving around I haven't really felt the need to use it. I do love having it though- I still get a little worried every so often that something is going to go wrong and it's such a relief to hear that little tiny heart beating away!!  <3
  • We still use it pretty regularly- maybe every other day vs everyday.  I'm still not convinced that I'm feeling the baby move and even when I'm feeling movement it's not everyday.  I expect I'll still use the doppler for a few more weeks.

My MIL asked us to bring the doppler last month when we were visiting (they live 4 hours away), but between my anxiety over possibly losing this pregnancy and the fact that we had to look below my pant line I didn't want to bring it.  We were just up again last weekend and I relented and let her listen.  We actually had some trouble finding the HB because the baby would move as soon as we would find it.

  • I found a baby wayyyy over by my hip bone today. So weird. My belly looks wider than it did but I was getting super concerned that I wasn't finding B where she usually is and bam- found her allllllll the way over above my hip!

This thread has me checking way more often now too lol!
