Bigger shoe size after pregnancy?

My shoe size went from an 8 to a 9 after my first pregnancy.  My question for STM's is, if you went up in shoe size after your first pregnancy, did your shoe size go up again in your second, third, etc. pregnancy?  If so how much did it go up by?  TIA!

Re: Bigger shoe size after pregnancy?

  • I'm curious about this too.
I went up a size, I'm hoping to all hope I won't again.
  • me too. 9 to 10. I don't want to be an 11 after this one!

  • So strange, I think mine got smaller. I used to be a size 9 before DS and now I'm 8- 8 1/2.

  • I went up from a 7.5ish to a solid 8. Weird!
  • I must be the abnormal one. I went from a 6.5 to a 5 or 5.5 after my first two.

  • Mine got wider but not longer. I really need a 7.5 wide now.

I used to be an 8. Three babies later I'm a 10.5 :( each baby I went up unfortunately.
  • I'm not going to lie this is one of my biggest fears (obv after any complications for the baby) for pregnancy is my feet getting way bigger. I know I can loose the baby weight and birth is scary however it's something every mother has gone through but I have too many shoes I want to still fit in after this kid is born! I've read that compression stockings can help and am thinking about getting some because I'm sure they can't hurt. DH says I'm not allowed to bind my feet haha.

  • Was an 8 before DD1, then I was a 9. After DD2 I went to a 9.5/10. The struggle is real.

  • Oh man I forgot all about this. With my first pregnancy I was terrified my feet would grow and I'd have to buy all new shoes, but I was lucky enough to only have to go up a half size in one type of shoe which is more narrow. Now I'm scared they will grow this time!
  • My shoe size stayed the same for me but my boobs have never gone back to their old size nor my hips.

  • My foot went up half a size during pregnancy, but then a few months after delivery, mine went back to pre pregnancy size (although maybe a bit wider). I'm wondering what will happen this go around.

The swelling three days after birth was insane though! I had to get slippers 3 sizes bigger than usual just to be comfortable! Thankfully that was just temporary but it thoroughly freaked me out.

I went from a 10-11. And I have narrow feet.
    It sucks donkey balls.
  • I needed a larger size while pregnant, towards the late middle to the end but I always went back to my old shoes after. I was just considering buying a new pair of winter boots because I don't want to ruin my nice warm ones with bigger, swollen feet.

  • I went from a 6-6.5 to a 7 after my first. Mostly because they got wider :( ... I am noticing a few pairs of my work flats are already feeling tighter this time around. I'm hoping it goes away after baby comes and they don't get even wider. I'm going to have Fred Flinstone feet at this rate >:(

@marriedhamstermom I am with you on this fear. It is so real for me too. I have a true shoe problem, which I probably need rehab for. I need to be able to fit these shoes when it's all said and done.

@BumpasaurusRex now if my boobs decide to stick around I will be a-ok with that. I've been waiting for boobs since is was 12

  • My shoe size went up one. My mom assured me she didn't go up another size after kid #2, but you ladies have got me scared.

Before I got pregnant with DD, I'd bought a pair of leather slouchy boots I absolutely ADORED. They went with everything. Then didn't wear them all summer I was pregnant because, hello, summer. And in the fall I cried bitter tears because they didn't fit.

    Until.

Until I remembered I'd bought them one size too big because that was the only size they had and put in some squishy inserts to make them fit.

Ta-da! Inserts out, favorite slouchy boots fit once again!

    I amaze myself sometimes.

  • My feet shrunk with my first pregnancy and went up a half size with my last. I'm curious to see what happens this time around. I shrunk overall. I used to be just under 5' 8" and I've measured in at 5' 5.5" at three   doctors offices in the past month.
  • I have worn a 10 my entire adult life but after my third baby I sized up to an 11.
Rachel, mama to Ava (6), Olivia (4), Nora (2), and baby#4 on the way.

  • We should all do a shoe swap if we change sizes lol.  I have some awesome Rag and Bone boots that I'm seriously praying my feet don't get too big for  :#
  • We should do a swap thread for awesome outgrown shoes after February. There IS light in the darkness!
  • I bought a pair of $250 leopard print cowboy boots a little over a year ago, they are the most expensive item I own and I only bought them because I loved them so much and figured I could wear them the rest of my life. I even wore them to my wedding. I am seriously going to cry my eyes out if I can't fit into them post pregnancy.

  • At what point in the pregnancy will you notice your feet growing?! I'm terrified considering I'm already a size 10
  • I've wondered about foot growth myself.  My feet were a 9.5 when I was quite a bit heavier in college, but they're more like an 8.5-9 now. I probably won't weigh as much when I'm full term as I did in college.  I know that weight is only part of the equation with foot growth, and that the relaxin has quite a bit to do with it, but I'm wondering if my previous weight changes will affect the size of my feet at all.  Anyone have any insight to share?
  • Before getting pregnant with my first I could wear anywhere between an 8-9  generally 8 1/2 though. After my first I am definitely more solidly a 9. They didn't grow with baby 2 though. At least not that I can tell with my shoes.

  • I had forgotten this was a possibility... I mostly hope I stay a size 6 because I always find clearance deals in my size!
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
  • I'm definitely worried about this because I already have wide flat feet, and a lot of people say their feet grow in width more than length. Are my feet just going to become squares? Lol!
Luckily I work at a shoe store and get a good discount, so that will help if I need new shoes.
I also read that making sure to wear comfortable supportive shoes that don't pinch your feet during pregnancy helps to prevent your feet from growing as much. No idea if it's true, but worth a try. I already can't stand wearing anything uncomfortable anyway being pregnant.

  • @lfrank12 I noticed my feet growing in about the third trimester in my last pregnancy- I thought my feet were just swollen from being pregnant and from me being on my feet all day at work, so I bought a pair of flats on sale that were the next size up.  Little did I know that this was my new shoe size.  I know some women's feet go back but mine were permanently a 9 after pregnancy (they were an 8 before).
  • I've had two babies and my shoe size never changed. But I concur with @BumpasaurusRex that my hips never moved back to normal size after my vaginal delivery. I had lost all the weight but could never get back in my pre-pregnancy pants.
