Interesting to see the wide range on the Harmony. When I called the company to see if my insurance participated, they said no, but that the most they ever charge OOP is $130, even for noninsured. We ended up skipping it and opting for NT since we are Team Green and the extra scan will ease my PGAL brain.
You can find out the sex through non-invasive prenatal screening (NIPs) between 10-12 weeks. The one my Dr. does (Harmony) apparently costs $100 if your insurance won't cover it (also screens for Down's and two other trisomy disorders, but is not a diagnostic).
I have NEVER seen the Harmony test go for $100 w/o insurance. It's usually closer to $1,000
hmm mine said it wasn't that expensive either. that is what I am going to do later this afternoon.
@MrsPope1770 be prepared, I want to say the portion insurance didn't cover and billed me was like 11k or some insane amount along those lines. It's one of those things that still takes your breath away and scares the crap out of you even though you don't have to pay it! I had an "oh shit, what if I misunderstood them" moment.
Holy moly! Everyone that I know that took it got a $1000.00 bill! Now I'm sad I skipped it

That's exactly what the doc said, I am calling to double check and I know that I will STILL have that freak out moment, lol.
My doctor's office gave me paperwork that the Harmony test would be $150 out of pocket, and that it is not usually covered by insurance. We decided to hold off unless the NT scan comes back with something concerning.

If anyone is still on the fence about this... if you sign up for their community on their site they send you a $10 off coupon to use. This plus the money back guarantee and whoops my finger slipped and bought it.

I'm so excited to find out if SP was correct. i can't see myself waiting another 6 weeks to find out if it is, in fact, a boy. I'm planning on attempting to convince DH to do a private scan.
@chrlyr same here. But DH already nixed the private scan option. Just scheduled my 20 week scan for Oct 28th though, so at least I have a date to count down to.

@chrlyrand@datalover13 We did a private scan The last time we saw little babe was at 8.5 weeks so both of us were chomping at the bit to have a look at how much he's grown, regardless of gender. We have our anatomy scan with the doctor in 4 weeks when I'll be 20w 3d. I'm so excited for you two!!!
@sunshine507 It's called Motherhood Ultrasound. They have one location in Annapolis and one in Rockville. The setup is a little weird--just an office in a random building, no signage, etc, but the equipment is modern and the tech/doc is really nice. She spent a LONG time trying to get my camera-shy baby to turn and look at us. Plus we have so many images and a DVD movie of him doing his baby yoga now, so it was totally worth it to me.

Actually it is a blood test! I ordered a sneak peak test recently for myself so I've been doing my research. You simply prick your finger with a Lancet and the blood is sent via test tube. If Y chromosome is detected in your blood it means it's a boy because that is the only possible way that could be (unless the sample was contaminated with male blood which is why the test recommnds that you are very careful to not let this happen). If no Y chromosome then it' a girl!
