Running Moms

Hi Ladies,

Anyone still running? If so, just curious if anyone is slowed down breathing wise this early. Usually it slows me down by about 30
seconds per mile (i.e., 8:30 to 9:00 min mile). I usually have a slow down but currently I feel fine at 9's... Wondering if something is wrong now! Hopefully it's just because i started out slow.

Re: Running Moms

  • Hi!  I'm running & plan to until I can't get one foot in front of the other. Haven't noticed any changes.

  • I'm still running and I noticed that I slowed down pretty early on (about 5 weeks).  However, I was still recovering from running a half marathon so that could have had something to do with it.  I have been out of town the last couple weeks so I haven't been able to run, hopefully my breathing has improved!  I plan on running until I can't do it anymore as well!

I was just thinking about creating a thread to see what strollers all the STMs like for jogging!

  • BOB revolution double is the best!!! However, my kids are now 35 and 45 lbs so I rarely run with them in it because they are just too damn heavy up big hills. The stroller is amazing though.
  • I still run every other day! I am slower, but I still feel great! As far as double joggers, the double bob revolution is fabulous! There is no other stroller like it! It maneuvers so well. I know some runners like the fixed wheel, but I absolutely could not run with a fixed wheel. I like being able to turn so easily. It's very comfortable. My girls love going for runs with me and my almost 2 year old falls asleep just about every run!
  • Still running but moved to treadmill only as it's hotter than hell here in DC and I have found myself getting winded much faster. So happy someone created this thread! I'm a FTM and hubby is also an avid runner, so we definitely want to get a jogger stroller. Is it okay if this is our only stroller or do we need a standard one as well?

  • I'm still trying to run, but I get winded easily. I can only seem to run a mile before I need to walk for a few minutes. I have a few races coming up, so I guess I'm just going to be run/walking them. I figure at least I'm still getting out there.

  • Thanks for this thread @KyCade3013! I'm still running 3 miles per day Monday through Friday. I was around a 7:15-7:20 mile pace prior to getting pregnant and set the goal to stay at 7:30 or under per mile in the first trimester. So far, I'm on track, but the first mile or so is definitely harder than before! Then I get into my groove and I'm good. The first trimester tiredness is what's killing me!

I've been looking at running stroller reviews and will most likely go with the Thule Urban Glide.  :)

  • @RunBooRun I think I might be run/walking the races I have coming up soon as well, but at least we're still being active!

  • I've slowed down and get winded much quicker.  I can go about 2 miles before I have to slow down to walk for just a bit to catch my breath.  I'm hoping that as soon as 1st trimester is over, breathing will be much better.  I've also gone inside to a treadmill because the heat down south is awful!  Ready to be back outside to run!

  • I also use the BOB revolution and love it.  Now looks like I will have to get a double :)

  • Another running mommy question! Any STMs buy a maternity support band to use while running later on in pregnancy? What kind and did you like it/feel like it helped?
I've looked at a few but not sure they were really made for exercising.

  • Great question @SienaC !! I'm curious to know this too. I'm in a moms running group but don't want to ask before I am 12 weeks and spill the beans! Lol.

Get your speedy runs in now for sure! I felt I slowed down most after 20 weeks. The front weight on my shins and arches ended up hurting at around 32 weeks and I had round ligament pain under my stomach. Breathing wise it gets tougher, but physically I thought was harder. @Bradleerick

My husband and I both run as well, we sprung for the double Bob revolution and bought a Maclaren double second hand for $20. BOB is great and fits in store doorways for shopping etc. @msimpy11

Our jogger was our only stroller but it didn't fit in the trunk of my car so we bought a small universal stroller that I could set car seat in.  It was like $40 so it worked out well when I needed to go shopping and take LO.  Otherwise we used jogger it's really nice and it fits in husbands car.

I bought a band from Motherhood Maternity last year while I was pregnant for running and aerobics.   I gave up running about 4.5 months pregnant.  I got much slower and winded faster and it was uncomfortable for me.   I got arthritis or pregnancy made it kick into overdrive in my hip so unfortunately I haven't gotten back into running too much. I still teach aerobics and the band worked well for holding my big belly in place.  The band is velcro so it can be adjusted a lot and I definitely noticed a difference while running and teaching my class.  I will use it again this time around. My doctor had recommended it and was glad he did.
  • I'm a runner, but I've had trouble doing much other than a run-walk lately. My problem is mainly my boobs. They hurt so bad, even with a decent sports bra. Has anyone had this or can recommend a bra that will keep the girls from bouncing and hurting when I'm trying to run?

@SandwichLover Girl, I am right there with you! I have been wearing 2 sports bras and running at a super (seriously super) slow pace because the boobs hurt way too much.. And they aren't even what anyone would consider as "big"! Hoping someone has some advice on this too

  • @SandwichLover @msimpy11 YES! I'm not really used to having much in the boob dept, but man! I know that they are there and bigger because they are painful! I find that the best support I get is from wearing the sports bras that are really tight. Like ones that would normally be uncomfortable to wear during the day, work great now for runs.

    My favorite one: https://www.sierratradingpost.com/head-fast-track-sports-bra-medium-impact-racerback-for-women~p~129nd/?filterString=s~head-sports-bra/

Do you ladies find that when you get up to pee at night that they are even more painful then?

  • I've been using a Lulu ta ta tamer II that I've had for years, it's not perfect but it's better than the other ones that are a joke at this point (they all have too much elastic in the bands for my current size).

  • I use Victoria secret sports bras pre-pregnancy and they've held up really well so far. I like that they have a (comfortable) underwire for extra support. I've had to tighten the straps a little more than I did before, but when I run, these puppies aren't moving.

  • @Bradleerick I am SO glad I'm not the only one who has noticed this.... The second I get out of bed and stand up, the girls are in excruciating pain! My hubby thinks I'm being dramatic but seriously- what is that?! I guess I could've brought this up for 'WTF Wednesday'.

I never thought I would ever be complaining about my boobs getting bigger  :D

  • I was a DD prior to pregnancy and the girls have definitely gotten bigger and are occasionally painful but I don't really notice that when I run. My old sports bras are tighter now so they aren't flailing around which might be helpful but holy sh*t my nips are on FIRE! I don't usually have to put body glide on my nips when I run but lately I have been lubing them up with it like crazy before I head out!

  • @sienac My fitness instructor was able to keep running until about 30 weeks by using the upsie baby by belly bandit. https://bellybandit.com/upsie-belly

Also many of my friends in stroller strides love their double bobs, I have the single and plan on getting the double.

@SandwichLover I am with you! I was running yesterday and had to hold my boobs with one hand and push my stroller with the other.

  • I'm (sort of) training for a 10k OCT 1, so I run 2-3 3mile nights and one 5mile on Sunday's.  I was able to run up till around 30weeks with last pregnancy till it felt too bouncy on my bump.
  • Props to you running mom's.  I can't go from lying to sitting without it feeling like my vagina is going to fall out.
  • Another vote for the Bob. I did Stroller strides for 3 months with out one, getting one was life changing! Unfortunately for me lo still loathes the stroller...sigh.

So the worst day at class is when I forget a second bra. I've heard rumor of some fantastic sports bras out there. Any thoughts? No wire tho.

Pre last pregnancy I was a DDD.  Goodness knows what I am now still trying to nurse my 11mo and preggo again. Just a lopsided mess.
