I've gained 8lbs @ 9.5 weeks. I'm not worried about that - I'm in the throes of morning sickness, so whatever I have to do to not puke - I'll do it. I have to eat every 45 minutes or so. It's ok though, by the end, I will be fat n' happy. It's not about the weight, it's about the wee thing living in my belly.
I had lost 40 lbs by January, but after 6 months of stress of my mom being put on hospice and then in a nursing home, my step dad passing then a month later my grandpa dying I stress ate and gained almost all of it back. I'm actually the same weight I was when I got pregnant with DD and I never had any issues, gained 18lbs with her but I had severe MS the entire time so doc was just happy I gained a healthy amount. I ate like crap with her because I was working crazy hrs and just ate what I could make myself. I'm doing good with the fruits and veggies, it's actually what most of my cravings are this time. And thanks to the meds from the doctor I think I won't have any issue. I will be keeping an eye on my weight gain though, I was overweight to begin with, I just don't want any health issues .
So just out of curiosity - how much weight have you ladies gained/lost (and how far are you/how many are you carrying)?
My weight generally fluctuates quite a bit, up to 5 pounds weekly when I'm not pregnant. Right now I a 2 pounds heavier than when I first conceived, so I'd say I haven't rally changed. I'm 8 weeks.
I did detect the beginnings of a legitimate bump yesterday. Not picture worthy, more something I could feel and see because of a shape change.
I stopped weighing myself about 6 months ago. When I was pregnant with DS, I was super concerned about staying within the 25-35lb "healthy" weight gain so I weighed myself every week or two. I stayed within that range but I wasn't that healthy. I seriously don't think I ate a single vegetable throughout my entire pregnancy. This time I'm just trying to keep up with lots of fruit, veggies, water and protein, working out 2-3 times a week and getting as much sleep as I can (like I was pre-pregnancy). 'Lots' of fruit and veggies are definitely not happening right now but I'm still trying and hoping they'll gain back some appeal by second trimester!
I gained 40 pounds with my son, and was chastised all the time by my midwives for it because I was 180 pounds I start with. Fast forward 6 months post partum and I only weighed 160 because nursing. My body knew what it was doing. I made a point to eat healthy and exercise, numbers be damned (unless I developed a problem). That's my plan this time too.
We need someone to have some controversial topic. I can't think of any right now or else I would.
Resolved: No Russian athletes should have been allowed to compete in this Olympics, and any medals they win are doomed to be shrouded with suspicion. Discuss.
@longliveregina Yeah, I wasn't completely focused on the TV at the time but the Russian Paralympic team was banned??
Originally all were banned because the government was helping athletes ceat on drug tests. The committee cavedand let some compete. I'm not sure how you can trust any of the athletes' performance after that.
i wonder if the swimmers/divers stuff their suits? or do that little trick underwear models do.. just saying you'd think the cold pool would cause shrinkage.. and if I were going to be on tv i'd want my man junk looking good..
I briefly saw that they were all initially banned and then the IOC let them back in at their own discretion (I have recorded them but not watched most of it yet). Frankly the IOC is one of the most corrupt organizations out there. It's sad that this is what the olympics have become. I have always loved the olympics but now they are all shrouded with controversy, mostly around money and corruption.
This thread made me head straight to Amazon to order a scale, I've never owned one. No idea what I've gained but I can definitely tell you I haven't lost any weight. My first pregnancy I gained 80 pounds! Double the "standard" amount my doctor said I should gain. I had diabetes though and that played a role in the weight gain.

Right up there with Fifa. It's horrible that talented athletes end up being puppets in these strange games.

They seem to think I weight fine. even though I feel like a fat gorilla.... I feel like I have so much other things to worry about right now than to worry about my weight...

Dropped my DD off at her first day of Kindergarten today. She was so excited and rushing me to get there, I did pretty well holding it together saying goodbye until I was out of the building, then I cried like a baby. I'm already ready to go get her and hear how her day went. 5 years staying home with her and I don't know what I will do with myself until my classes start!

I don't know how much weight I've gained because I refuse to weigh myself. I haven't been eating all that healthy lately due to nausea and food aversions and I fear that if I have in fact gained a few pounds (which I suspect I have) that it will just upset me to see it on the scale. As long as baby is healthy weight should not matter!
Halp! Anyone having issues with gagging and tooth brushing/flossing? I know how important dental hygiene is during pregnancy, but I'm struggling. I can't floss the back half of my mouth at all and I can only brush for about a minute before I start gagging. I also had to increase my sugar intake with my ginger ale/Sprite and smoothies. Typically I don't drink or eat too much sugar at all, so I know that's not helping.

@pattersrn This is frankly be no help in preventing it, but pregnancy can make your gag reflex more sensitive. I tried googling it, but wasn't able to find any helpful tips to make it better
ETA: I doubt the sugar would make it worse (but anything is possible) because there is a correlation between low blood sugar and morning sickness, so it should help it not make it worse.
Babies are kind of made from your teeth, I don't think there is any getting around a sad PP dental appt. Do your best and use mouthwash but don't beat yourself up!

@meq124 I wasn't referring to the sugar making my gagging worse, I was referring to the damage it does to your teeth. I've been gagging a lot more lately, just getting sick of it

@ngcsugirl1112 I don't have any recommendations, but I've never been let down by tripadvisor. We use it every time we travel and always find some fabulous eats.
DH and I are traveling to Denver and Breckinridge next week....does anyone have any good restaurant recommendations for lunch?
I was just reading a list on some travel article, like "10 Baller Things to Do This Month" and one of the things on the list was a restaurant in Denver. "The European-style Avanti Food & Beverage is part culinary collective, part chef incubator. Inside a former LoHi printing warehouse, seven reclaimed shipping containers act as test kitchens for new restaurant ideas." I texted the article to my SIL (they live in Denver) and she said she's been there, and it's a great restaurant with a fun atmosphere!
DH is so cute. He's starting asking me what "baby" wants to eat. The other night, we were going to have sausages, but we had two varieties to pick from. He asked me which one baby would prefer. So I tell him. And I was so wrong. Baby didn't like sausage at all.
It's cute. He keeps doing it. I think its really sweet.

We all want to eat healthy, but sometimes you gotta eat whatever calories you can keep down!
Pregnancy brain is in full swing. Today on my commute, I was on zero miles to empty. I intentionally waited to stop at a Race Trac for gas, because they have uh-may-zing crushed ice. I went in to pee, got a huge cup of ice, and ten miles down the road realized I didn't get fuel. WTF brain??! Please tell me someone can relate.
Thank God for Toyota's and their awesome gas mileage.
