Trying to Get Pregnant

Clear blue advanced ovulation kit

Hello, I am trying to conceive my second child. I have been searching this app, however am only finding information on the CBEFM. To be very clear, I am not using this device. So here goes my question...
In July I purchased the 20 day test kit of Clear Blue Advanced ovulation kit. My cycles have been really long as I was 11mpp.So last month I began testing at the 20 day before period as recommended in instructions. I had two days low fertility and the 3rd day was peak. We did not bd. My next period cycle was 35 days. So I began testing according to package again. I had 2 low, then my first high fertility or flashing smiley. I know the website for clear blue says each cycle is different regarding days of fertility, but I am on my 7th day of HF. How long have many of you had this before peak, and have you experience this where you either have an immediate peak, and then a cycle of lots of high? I'm beginning to really hate that flashing smiley face!! Sorry for the book. TIA

This was me!  I know everybody has a different experience using Clear Blue Advanced and some find it too cumbersome and prefer Wondflo, but mine was actually positive in the end, even with something like what you're describing.  The first cycle I used the kit, I got the solid smiley after just 1 day of flashing smiley.  The next cycle that I used it, I got 5-6 days of the flashing smiley!!  It was so frustrating to feel like we needed to BD for so many days! And then finally I got the solid smiley.  That was actually the cycle that "worked" for me.  Hopefully you'll have a good experience, too!

  • Thank you for the group referral! No, I am not temping. I am not entirely sure about charting. The ovulation kit I just bought was my 1st try before going above and beyond. My 1st pregancy I used Clinical Guard opk and got a BFP the 2nd try. So this time I didn't want to pee in a cup every day or read the iffy lines.
  • Try searching the site for CBAD, you'll get a lot of hits as it's discussed a lot and a lot of people have questions about it because it is a confusing test. CBAD is tough to get the hang of; you have to take it when you know your estrogen is low so it establishes a "baseline" of estrogen and LH levels, then in subsequent tests it measures your levels against the baseline.

Since you're new to charting and TTC (actually having to try, that is) I suggest you lurk the boards; there is a ton of information here. The book Taking Charge of Your Fertility is also a great resource that will answer a lot of your questions about charting.

  • Thank you for your response. I will try searching using the abbreviation you gave me. I am not so much confused by the test, just curious to know how long most people had before peak. I used different ovulation strips when we tried with my son. Not sure what I dislike more, the lines on a Internet cheapy or the horrible seemingly never ending flashing smiley haha.

I've used the CBAD (ClearBlue Advanced Digital) and, for what it's worth, I tend to either go from low to high and then positive pretty quick or it'll take a freaking long time. I only used the CBAD for a couple of cycles. Most cycles I'd have low for a day or two, then high for 1-3 days and then peak. This past cycle I had low for 5 days, high for 6 days without peak before I got angry and stopped testing. I just used Wondfos for awhile. Then about a week and a half later I started using the CBAD again. 2 days of low and a high then I stopped for 2 days because I wasn't having fertile CM and it didn't make sense. 2 days later I got a high and then finally a peak.

So my "peak" reading was 21 days after my first "high" reading.

ETA: Sorry I know following endless strings of dates isn't easy. Here is a picture of the chart which is probably easier to follow.

The picture is kinda huge but if I shrink it, because it was such a long cycle, the chart becomes unreadable. :/
