How much time leading up to a frozen transfer?

Hi!  Curious here.  How much time did you need between the time you decided a FET was coming and the time you actually had the transfer?

I just got off the phone with my nurse (who is awesome), but she said it is a good five-six weeks after I get the PGS results (still 10 days away) that we could schedule my protocol for the frozen transfer. They wait for the embryos to be normal, then it is something like BCP for two weeks, then Lupron shots for another week or so, then your period, then estrogen, etc.  Overall we would be looking way over a month away - almost two months till the transfer.

I have heard FET is easier, but this sounded actually longer than our retrieval process with just less office visits. What was/is your experience with an FET.

Thanks!
Me: 41  DH: 44  DD: 9
IVF: ER 7/16 40 follies, 23 eggs, 19 mature,
12 fert w/icsi, 6 blasts, 3 PGS norm, 1 unknown.

FET: 9/1/16 transferred 1 CP beta 5.9
FET 2: 11/15/16 transferred 1 CP again!
FET 3: TBD

  • Hi Diana! What your nurse has told you sounds about right. Between my fresh and first FET was exactly 8 weeks, between my first and second FET was almost exactly 8 weeks.

  • Loading the player...
  • I was totally surprised by the length of the FET protocol as well. I had ER on June 25 and have a tentative transfer date of 8/11. So, a little shorter than your estimated wait, but not much. I did PGS testing and thus no fresh transfer.
  • Depends if insurance is involved as well... My insurance required me to wait a cycle and then I need authorization so I am exactly 2 months between transfers. It is actually occurring to me now that it's to the day 6/4 to 8/4

  • Yeah, it would be wonderful if this slow, long process could be sped up, but alas, that isn't how any doctors do it. Lame, I know.

  • Nothing about infertility is quick or easy, lol. I started my protocol Aug 1 and am hoping for a transfer ~Sept 8. Such a long ass time. Wish me luck.
  • @FatPony. Good luck to you! That actually doesn't sound too bad! Puts you in the 5-6 week range.  I feel like I am Veruca on willy wonka screaming but I want it NOW!

In in the end I talk myself down and remember that time is nothing compared to a positive outcome of a healthy baby.  Best to you!
