Surgery/Anesthesia

edited August 2016 in December 2016 Moms
Last week I managed to accidentally cut through my thumb tendon and it requires surgery to repair it. I am scheduled to go this Friday at 23 weeks pregnant. They are going to do a nerve block just in my arm, but this is my worst nightmare. Of course all of the doctors including my OB says that this is fine, but I am admittedly a little over the top while pregnant- I don't do caffeine/ medications and try to avoid exposure to toxins in general. My only options here are to have a new baby and a toddler and no use of my left thumb (I literally can't move it at all) or to do this surgery. Has anyone had any surgeries/Anesthesia while pregnant?

Re: Surgery/Anesthesia

  • I recently had my gall bladder removed around the 4th of July holiday.  I was right at 19 wks pregnant.  Baby girl was monitored the whole time, as was I.  Her heart rate was checked multiple times.  All went fine.

  • @olidoli37@aol.com I just had an emergency circulate put in on the 22nd. They gave me a spinal, as that doesn't get into the bloodstream. So LO wasn't affected by that at all. They did monitor me and her for several days, but that was because of the location of the surgery. It it really scary to have to go through this type of thing. BUT if anything happens, what better place to be than at a hospital with doctors who can take care of it all.

  • I had to get my gallbladder taken out a little over 2 weeks ago. My PCP, OB and surgeon all said surgery was okay to do and all risks were very low. They monitored baby before, during and after then kept me over night just as a precaution. Myself and baby both did great and haven't had any issues.
