  • How many weeks?
31 Weeks, down to the single digits now!  :#

    What size is baby?

    Upcoming appointments?
Next Wednesday, probably just another basic check-up. Hopefully they won't start cervix checks until next month...

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
I have no real rants, I just woke up cranky. I feel better now though, just recieved a pleasant phone call :) No raves or questions either, just shocked to be down to 9 weeks!

    Symptoms/Cravings/Aversions?
Nothing new. Wait... watermelon is my jam now. Disgusting amounts of watermelon.

GTKY: Who's your all time favorite band?
I don't have ONE all time favorite band, I don't even have ONE all time favorite genre... this is hard :(

    @CopperBoom86
I've heard of them, my Christian buddies were all about that band back in the day! Were they with Tooth and Nail records?
  • How many weeks?
    30!

    What size is baby?
    A summer Cantelope.

    Upcoming appointments?
I'm doing an elective US tomorrow just for shits and giggles and then I have a hospital appointment in two weeks to monitor the growth of Hazelnut because of my GD. This Thursday is my first appointment with the nutritionist and they'll teach me how to check my blood and everything.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
I've never had GD before so I have a bunch of questions but I guess I'll know more on Thursday.

    Symptoms/Cravings/Aversions?
I'm suppressing my want for sugar lol

GTKY: Who's your all time favorite band?
Hm, I don't think I really have one. I'm not gay into music but in the past I've liked Nirvana, The Cure, The Backstreet Boys lol I'm all over the place with music.

Michi1382 I love The Cure, my inner goth was all about some Robert Smith when I was younger haha
  • @Michi1382 hmmm, my tag wouldn't work in that last comment, and wouldn't even edit properly.
  • How many weeks? 29 this week!

What size is baby? A gallon jug of milk haha

Upcoming appointments? I go for my rhogam shot tonight, and then an appointment next Wednesday.

Rants/Raves/Questions? I'm starting to freak out a little about breast feeding. I have this weird mental thing going on where I *really* want to do it, practically, because I've read about the benefits and my best friend who is a 1st year resident at an amazing children's hospital tells me all the cool stuff about it...... but then when I think about it practically, I'm like omg, I do NOT want to do that. It's like I have a mental block against it. I'm hoping when the baby comes it just comes somewhat easier to me and feels really natural so that this strange feeling goes away.

Symptoms/Cravings/Aversions? I'm still not throwing up like I was (yayyyy!) but I'm still nauseous a lot =(  Like, every day. Trying to talk myself into getting excited for some Panera for lunch, but really I just want to drink their green tea, which I think may qualify as my only real craving this pregnancy. Their green tea is like crack.

GTKY: Who's your all time favorite band? Andrew McMahon in any of his forms (Something Corporate, Jack's Mannequin, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness). I love that man and have a tattoo dedicated to him. It's funny because besides his music, which has always been on the pop-rock spectrum of emo/indie/pianorock/etc, I pretty much exclusively listen to rap music. My fav rapper is prob Kanye West (UO!).

  • @CopperBoom86 if your doc gets on you about your weight, then he/she is being a dummy. People who have recently lost significant amounts of weight tend to gain more, just because your baseline for what's "normal" for your body is different. You're clearly in tune with your health. I love doctors & science, and generally trust experts in their fields, but you're an expert in YOU and from everything you have said it seems like you're doing a great job and have nothing to be shamed about!
  • @CopperBoom86 - I agree!  Ignore what others think about your weight gain.  Every pregnant woman is different.  My sister gained 25 lbs, I gained 42 lbs my last pregnancy, and my friend gained 100 lbs!

    How many weeks? 31 weeks

    What size is baby?  Asparagus

    Upcoming appointments?  Tomorrow

Rants/Raves/Questions?  Started working on moving stuff out of the office so I can then move the playroom into that room and FINALLY start working on baby's room!  Definitely in nesting mode - I cleaned and organized everything.  Going to make a trip to Target this week to get a bunch of organizers.  Is it sad that I'm really excited about this???!!!

Symptoms/Cravings/Aversions?  So I went to a wedding and they did a pig roast.  When I saw the pig, I about lost it!!! :p

GTKY: Who's your all time favorite band?  Probably a tie between DMB & Coldplay

  • @scostel2 I really didn't want to breastfeed DD (my first), but did anyway because 'it was the right thing to do' with limited success. I struggled with it, and think my initial aversion to it was the root of my failure. My heart wasn't in it, and it made me a little resentful. I think both of us would have been happier had I either pumped or formula fed.
That being said, with LO I DID want to breastfeed for some magical reason, and it worked out rather well. I think having a bit of experience with it helped me out in with that decision and made me more open minded towards it.
With this babe, I think EPing will be the way to go. It's a happy medium, and will meet my scheduling needs.
Whatever you choose to do, make sure it's what you want and what you're comfortable with and you and your LO will both be much happier and more satisfied :)
  • Thanks guys! I'm seriously considering telling her to lay off. I know I gained more in the first trimester than I should have, but I definitely don't feel like I'm out of control or anything.

@AllyTheKid - Nope, according to the Google machine they've never been with Tooth and Nail. Although it would make sense because they have some very similar artists!

  • @AllyTheKid - Omg, watermelon sounds amazing right now!!!!

@scostel2 - I was the same with my DS.  I was so worried about breast feeding at first.  And we really had to work at it because he had some latching issues so I ended up using a nipple shield for a few weeks.  But once we got the hang of things, I absolutely LOVED breast feeding.  I loved watching him fall asleep in my arms and it felt like such a connection between the two of us.

While I am a proponent of breast feeding, I understand that it is not for everyone.  My sister tried it for a while and it didn't work for her so she ended up pumping.  In the end, you need to do what works best for you and your baby.  My best advice is don't give up right away if you're having trouble - it can take some time to get in the "rhythm".  Lactation consultants are a great resource too.  I promise once your little one comes it will feel a lot more natural than it seems!

  • @CopperBoom86 I remember one of my friends giving me a Tooth and Nail sampler CD in highschool (one of the big Reliant K fans), and I liked the CD quite a bit, couldn't remember if they were on it or not though.
  • @CopperBoom86 Also, I thought it was normal to gain 2lbs by each appointment? Everybody has so many different opinions =/ sorry if they give you crap! I've already hit my 35lb mark, and am still consistently gaining 2, sometimes 3 more pounds every 2 weeks.
  • @AllyTheKid - I was technically "overweight" to begin with, so she only wanted me to gain 15 pounds total. Quotes because I was only 13 pounds away from being in the ideal weight range for my height when I got KU, so I really didn't consider myself "overweight."

So yeah, I don't think it's fair that those 13 pounds made it so I can only gain 15 pounds instead of the regular 25-35 pounds. Especially when I worked my ass off (literally) for a year to get there.

  • Thanks so much everyone for the BF advice! I think a huge part of it is that most of my family and friends have used formula, so I'm just not used to seeing breastfeeding. It's going to be an adventure! I'm just trying to remind myself not to put a lot of pressure on myself either way and that as long as the baby is fed some way it's fine.
  • @CopperBoom86 As a kid I was only allowed to listen to Christian music and Broadway and I used to be ALL ABOUT Reliant K! Though Switchfoot and Sonic Flood were higher on the list. And Toby Mac, but please don't tell anyone, haha.

  • @CopperBoom86 Even with that being so, it's ridiculous she would give you a weight cap that small, I mean amniotic fluid and water weight alone could take up the limit she gave you =/
  • @CopperBoom86 I'm in a similar situation.   I lost a lot before getting pregnant and had been living on 1200 calories for months.  Because of this, my metabolism has been extremely slow the entire pregnacy.  At one point, I was eating 1800 calories and walking 40 minutes a day but still gaining 5 lbs a month.  My doctors never mention anything even though they wanted me to gain 15.  I'm going to gain 37-40.   I'm at a point now where I'm going to eat healthy but let the cards fall where they may for the next 9 weeks.  If I end up at 45 pound gain, I'll just have 15 left over to lose (most women I talk to say the first 30 falls off in the first 6 weeks and that was the case with my first pregnancy).
  • @MKJeffrey2002 - I think the metabolism thing is part of my problem, too. I was netting between 1,200 and 1,400 calories a day for a year, so I think my body is all "KEEP ALL THE THINGS."

I would love to take that "cards fall where they may" attitude, but I hate being given a talking to at every appointment. Maybe the hormones will make me all ragey and I'll finally be able to summon the courage to tell her to stop bringing it up. :/

  • How many weeks?
29- getting so close to single digits
    What size is baby?
    Acorn squash
    Upcoming appointments?
    None until the 19th
    Rants/Raves/Questions?
He is so low, I can barely bend over without doing the splits. I didn't have this problem with my girls and it's slightly annoying so say the least.
    Symptoms/Cravings/Aversions?
I've actually slightly lost my appetite lately. Super strange, but I don't even think about eating until I have a head ache.
GTKY: Who's your all time favorite band?
even though I'm not a super huge country fan. I love Luke Bryan! <3

  • @Schell2013 I saw Luke Bryan a couple weeks ago. He's awesome!
  • Regarding the breastfeeding this time around I'm also struggling with the choice. I was excited to breastfeed my girls, but this time I have absolutely no desire whatsoever. I am really surprised by these feelings cause they are very different than how I felt with my other pregnancies. I have been deeply considering formula this time around but worry about the backlash cause it seems everyone around me breast feeds and since I did with my first 2 I wonder if people will judge me more. Not that I care about anyone judging me.

  • How many weeks?
31!  Single digits left (even though as a FTM it could still very well be double digits...)!

    What size is baby?
Asparagus or romaine lettuce... I don't really like this weeks comparisons.

    Upcoming appointments?
Monday, I'm really excited (and a little bit nervous) for this appointment.  I have had a u/s since 20 weeks and I wasn't going to, but I'm measuring 2cm small so my OB ordered a growth scan.  She was very calm about it and seemed super confident that it's most likely just related to my size and nothing wrong with baby, so I'm trying not to stress and mostly thrilled to get to see my little guy!  We're also going to go over my birth plan, so talk about sh*t getting real!

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
Struggling with back pain lately.  I think something is out of alignment, because it'll get better for a little while but then sitting in certain chairs makes it flare up again.  I took a long weekend and spent a ton of time in the pool which was magical for my preggo body!  But now tonight I have my last childbirth prep class and tomorrow the natural childbirth class.  They're both 2.5hrs and the chairs are super uncomfortable, so I'm dreading it.

    Symptoms/Cravings/Aversions?
3rd trimester fatigue has been hitting me hard lately!  It's getting back into 1st trimester territory.

GTKY: Who's your all time favorite band?
Yikes, there's no way I could pick just one!  The kind of music I like changes with my mood.

@CopperBoom86 Ugh I'm mad at your OB for you!  That is super annoying that she is so shaming about weight gain.  You're growing a baby!  Every woman is different and guidelines like that should not be so strictly followed, you know best what your body needs.  It is way worse to be stressing about your weight or trying to diet while pregnant than to gain a few extra pounds.  My OB is very laissez-faire about weight gain, I think it would take extreme circumstances one way or the other for her to even mention it to me.
