2nd - ran to grab a gallon of milk and detergent today and saw the Most amazing brownies.... fudge brownies with a cream cheese icing drizzled with chocolate sauce..... it was all I could do not to get them

Le sigh. It's so hard being good

  • Sprouts grocery stores have gummy bears in bulk $1.99/lb and they are the best gummy bears and they are so many flavors!

  • I want to eat everything until I sit down and take the first bite of it. Then it's all like, well this tasted better in my head.  Then I eat it anyway.

still craving fruits, sweets, I really want brownies now thanks @jennbaylor12!  Is it too late to whip up a batch?!

  • Sushi and kimchi!
  • I'd love a recipes thread, I've been thinking that would be helpful especially as we get closer and start making freezer meals.

We got dim sum today and it was heavenly - dumplings and scallions pancakes and sticky rice and egg custard tarts. Then I made couscous arugula salad for dinner and that hit the spot, too.

Last night I made box Mac and cheese (my most common indulgence this pregnancy) and doctored it up with peppers, tomatoes, and corn. DH wasn't around so I didn't have to share...
  • Hardly anything is tasting right to me lately. I'll take a few bits of things here and there, that I think I want, but then it doesn't even taste right. I can't tell you the last time I ate an actual complete meal. Ice cream, more specifically brown cows, is the only thing that still tastes right.
  • Yesterday we went to a friend's church fundraiser because he was making jerk chicken that I've been salivating over on FB for like 3 years. It did not disappoint. I've eaten so much amazing chicken this weekend. And DH is still on his cooking kick (thank the good Lord!!!). So lots of healthy yummy dinners - incredible turkey meatloaf today with my collards. I've had some brussels sprouts left overs too.

Of course, nothing compliments healthy food like the bowl of ice cream I'm eating every night  >:)

  • I have been eating so many tomatoes.  Our garden is finally blowing up with tomatoes so they have become a side with virtually every meal.
  • Dh laughed because I've never been big on meat. Yesterday I asked if he'd like pulled pork tonight so that's what I made. He was finishing things up and said so are you eating this? I shocked him by eating it. It was delicious!

Other than that I'm on a dried mango kick and still loving some chocolate eat day.

  • I think a recipes thread would be great!

Today we got hot, fresh donuts and they were amazing!!!

Mostly I've been wanting all the ice cream.  Luckily it doesn't take much for me to be super full.

  • My 2 year old and I had grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner tonight.

For lunch I made knock off red lobster chicken alfredo pasta. It was delicious. Even my parents loved it. It will certainly turn into a freezer casserole meal!

Also, about 2 months ago I made a bunch of freezer casseroles and we have been trying them out and writing down the ones we like and don't like, or afterthought modifications to make for next time. It's helpful knowing what DH will actually eat...no sense making ones for when the baby gets here if he won't eat it. It's also been helpful to figure out defrost/cooking times for these suckers...it's always longer than I predict.

  • I could use a lot of help with freezer meal ideas. I don't have the first clue how to do those properly and them taste great when it's time to cook them.

I have wanted a calzone with all the ricotta today. Drove all over the area we were in looking for an Italian restaurant that would make one to no avail. Ended up getting a pizza slice at Whole Foods, but I'm still thinking about the calzone that never was. :(

Tomorrow I'm going to try to hop back on my healthy kick. I am going to make Engine Two vegan lasagna (https://engine2diet.com/recipe/raise-the-roof-sweet-potato-lasagna/). It was delicious pre-pregnancy but Bean has a lot of opinions about what tastes good these days. Fingers crossed, because that dish is quite an involved undertaking. Might do good for a freezer meal though once I figure out how to make those.

  • I made steak kabobs for dinner tonight and slutty brownies for DH to take to work. It took every ounce of self restraint I had not to eat them.

    I love recipes! ❤️

  • We used to have a meal plan/recipe thread but it fell off. I'm down for it again.

We had spaghetti squash with chicken today. It was fine. What really hits the spot for me lately is fruit, salty things like pickles and green olives, and froyo. Oh and pizza rolls because I will never grow up.
  • @slartybartfast Seriously! I'd love to meet the person who gets 2.5 servings out of that box.

Me too, because that person deserves a punch.
  • I'm making tilapia tonight with rice and green beans. I'll either broil it or make the ranch tilapia I found on Pintrest last year. My parents gave us all these veggies we have to use, so one night I'm making squash pasta with my Vegetti. And yesterday my breakfast consisted of the last of the chocolate cake from our party last week. No regrets :)

So I didn't feel like undertaking the massive Sweet Potato Veggie Lasagna (this makes two pans regardless of what his recipe says) I was talking about last night. I've shelved it for another day this week. Instead I made this Creamy Sun-dried Tomato Pasta. DH and I are trying to get back into eating plant based again since that's what we were doing when we got pregnant. I forgot vegan sour cream at the store this weekend so I just used regular (probably will help with the no-dairy headache I always get when I wean off of it). I imagine you could also swap parmesan cheese for the nutritional yeast since I know that's not a common staple. Anyway, this was really yummy and simple. I bet it would make a great freezer meal. DH suggested that you could simply freeze the sauce and cook some pasta when you're ready to eat it and toss with some fresh basil.

  • I opened a can of cut green beans and just started eating them... So good. DH walked in and convinced me to have some sides to go with my beans.
  • @BabyRobbinsAdventure years ago I knew a girl who was pregnant and that was her "thing" while pregnant. She just ate allllll the green beans all the time.

I haven't done this yet during my pregnancy but when I was in high school I did it all the time! So yummy!

  • I can't seem to get enough blueberries and strawberries these days.Other then that I'm not that interested in most foods. However, it's happened twice now in the past week where I had to have 1. lamb curry and 2. beef stew. Maybe this is the start of a cravings phase. I still couldn't eat a whole serving in one go though.

I've also noticed that things taste way too sweet or way too salty for my liking.
  • @JessyH yesterday I made myself some veggie sushi (avocado, brown rice, and spinach) and used some low sodium Tamari. It was SO salty I didn't enjoy my meal at all. I thought it was odd, but shrugged it off. But now that you mention it, maybe that was a thing. I've also noticed that stuff has been way too spicy lately. I love spicy and it's been bothersomely hot the past few times I've tried to eat spicy food. Maybe it's a pregnancy thing and I didn't even realize it.

  • So much salmon and asparagus. My pee is so stinky but I don't even care.
  • Went out to a German restaurant last night DH and I have been going to for years. They didn't have pirogis, which made me sad because I really wanted that mushroom sauce with it!! So I got kielbasa and potato pancakes. Still don't like sauerkraut, which DH swore up and down would be something I would like as soon as I got pregnant. Nope, still the smell makes me gag and so does the taste.

  • @phoenix870509 mmmmmm potato pancakes sound goooooooood
  • Anyone have a good recipe for warm potato salad? There's a restaurant near me that serves it - it has bacon, red potatoes, onions, and is tossed in some kind of tasty dressing. I can't stop thinking about it, and have been looking on the internet for how I might recreate it.

  • @caseywhitaker I do! It's typically called German Potato Salad if you want to look one up. Its made with vinegar rather than mayo. It's the only kind I like. I have my grandmas recipe at home and I will type it up later it you want.
  • @caseyewhitaker I found it in my email!

3 pounds potatoes, peeled unless redskins, boiled and chopped
    6 slices bacon
    3/4 c chopped onion
    2 T. Flour
    2 T. Sugar
    2 t. Salt
    1/2  t. Celery seed
    3/4 c. Water
    1/3 c. White vinegar

Fry bacon and remove, cook onion in bacon grease. Stir in dry ingredients. Cook over low until bubbly. Add water and vinegar, boil 1 minute. Mix with potatoes. Best served warm (keeps well in crockpot).
  • @cgss11 actually sending my husband to the store for red potatoes and bacon so I can make this tonight.
