TTC After a Loss

^^^Friday Check-In^^^

Happy Friday everyone! Hope everyone had a good week and most of all I hope it's about to become an even better weekend.

What are you all up to? Any good trips? Dinners out? Lounging on the beach or by a lake with a good book?

AFM...My DH is just home from a work trip, which usually means we hang tight for a few days. Most likely our usual beach, dog walking and cooking food tomorrow. I believe it is supposed to rain on Sunday so likely headed to do some shopping. We sponsor a local kiddo each year for a "back to school" program our food bank runs. You get an anonymous description of a child and purchase them school, supplies, a backpack, 2 outfits and some other basics. It needs to be in next week, so I want to get it done this weekend to make sure we have everything. Our person this year is a 6 year old boy, which is always fun.

Re: ^^^Friday Check-In^^^

  • That's an awesome thing to do @BornReady

We we will be hanging at home this weekend. My sisters family is coming to visit and install some builtin shelving my BIL has been building for us. Hopefully this goes without a hitch and looks awesome because things are a little tense. He quoted us a price and now the final price is about 3 times what he had said originally and he did not consult us at all. DH is not impressed and I am being reminded about why you never do business with family.

At this point I just hope to enjoy the time with my sister and two nieces because they are moving farther away in a few weeks and we won't see them until Christmas.

  • Way to be awesome, @BornReady! That's a great way to give back.

Yikes, @Taggarab - I am sorry to hear that hiring family may cause some problems... That really sucks that BIL didn't discuss the need to increase his price with y'all. Poor form. I hope you and the girls can have fun despite the tension!

AFM, I want to see Ghostbusters this weekend. So hopefully either tonight or tomorrow. I only work half a day today, so this afternoon, I am going to work on a grant application for a nonprofit whose board I am on and tomorrow I get to wake up bright and early and carpool with some friends to a Rotary assembly. DH is supposed to work around the house after playing golf the last two weekends, so I will probably find some little projects to do alongside him on Sunday.

Hop everyone has a great weekend!

  • Yayyyy weekend. Today I'm getting some laps done in the pool than catching up on charts in the office that I'm so far behind at. Our cleaning lady is coming way later than normal so it will force me to stay out of the house and get work done.

Tomorrow DH and I have a 4 mile run for the half marathon I guilted him in to. I don't think he's run that far in about as many years so this is going to be interesting. He hates running to begin with and then it's combined with the 430 wake up time I insist on to get it done outside before he golfs. I feel like treadmills don't train as well. After that he's golfing so I am going to relax and read. Do laundry. We may get me a new bike so we can bike to brunch on Sunday. Mostly just enjoy that is supposed to be cooler here due to impending monsoons.

  • @roxgibbons Your trip sounds amazing!

@SnobunnieMel I'm also trying to get DH to run with me this weekend. The man ran 2 marathons and inspired me to run my first and only marathon in 2013, now I'm lucky if I can get him to run 2 miles with me!

@BornReady That is so cool that you sponsors a child for back to school. We should look into that.

@fivetimesnoluck let us know how Ghostbusters is. I want to see it, but DH won't see it because of the reviews!

AFM We are packing up the puppy and heading to my ILs house in SW Michigan for 4 days. My ILs and DHs aunt and cousins will also be there. It should be fun, but Lake Michigan is so high that the beach by the house is gone. We have to drive to the public beach which kinds of sucks. I know I shouldn't complain- it's a brand new very modern house and my ILs won't less us pay for anything while we are there. Yay for free vacations!! We get back Tuesday and I have my HSG that day which I'm not looking forward too.
  • @BornReady I hope you and dh have a good weekend kicking back and relaxing. That sponsor program sounds amazing, what a nice thing to do for a child in need.
@Taggarab yikes that does seem pretty awkward. hopefully he comes through with great work and it'll be worth the money.
@fivetimesnoluck i want to see ghostbusters too! i don't think it'll happen this weekend but i'm curious if you like it. I've heard mixed things but i love the cast so i would probably love it.
@SnobunnieMel good luck training for the half, i'm exhausted just reading about all your activity lol i've been so lazy recently with working out and getting outdoors in general. you've inspired me to get moving this weekend.
@roxgibbons hope you have a great trip, sorry it's a trigger for you :(

as for me, i'm not in a great mood today and feeling very blah. a lady in the bathroom at work just asked when I'm having number 2 and told me not to wait too long. gee, thanks. really not what i needed today. anyway tomorrow we are double dating and going out to a nice dinner to celebrate DH's new job so that will be fun. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

  • @BornReady - that sounds like a great program. My organization used to collect school supplies for local kids, but our new COL put an end to it. I will have to look into it and see if we have something similar.
@fivetimesnoluck - I want to see Ghostbusters as well, but DH thinks the best parts were shown in the commercials.
@SnobunnieMel and @chloe97 - great for you guys. I am envious, I need to get back to a regular exercise routine.
@roxgibbons - That sounds like a wonderful trip. Enjoy the beautiful scenery.

AFM - DH and I were supposed to go on a date tonight and celebrate my promotion, but SD's mom, who drove here from out of state, decided she is not picking her daughter up tonight and will not see here this weekend before she heads home. Don't know why yet. Other than that, we will work on getting more unpacked and settled in our new home.

@SnobunnieMel we are doing a 1/2 in October and have our 4 mile run this weekend too! DH and I run together a lot, but have never really trained for anything together, so I am excited.

@BornReady  what a cool program! It's nice to have the opportunity to help a family like that during the year and not only at the holidays.

@fivetimesnoluck I feel so nerdy, but yaaaay Rotary! I was involved with Rotary before I moved and am looking forward to getting involved here once we are more settled.

@roxgibbons I hope your trip is great, I hope the triggering effect will disappear once you are there. I've seen photos from friends backpacking and it looks amazing.

@brooklyngirl18 I'm not in the greatest place either. I have been feeling a little low the past week, and yesterday one of my bff's told me she and her husband are going to start trying...which gave me complicated feelings...I felt almost resentful of how excited she was. I feel like a terrible friend but it was hard for me to hear for some reason. I hope that dinner with DH will help your blahs!

AFM, My sister, brother in law and their 3 year old twins are coming to visit tomorrow. I am so excited, they have not been up to see us since we moved about a year ago. We're probably going to go the beach and grill and just hang out. We have company for the next 3 weekends, so I'm trying to keep this weekend low key.
  • Look at the marathon runners in this group! I'm super impressed! There's not enough money in the world for me to train and run one. Now play basketball for four hours, definitely...run for that long, no thank you!

    ~TW - child mentioned~
Well I'm definitely in the midst of the worst two week stretch I've had since we found out the twins were in trouble and then two weeks later they passed. I can't even believe the amount of pregnancy announcements and the most recent is my SIL who has a nine year old from a fling when she was young so she has lived with her parents ever since and swore she'd never want any more kids. A year ago she moved in her bf, who was still legally married to another woman, into her parents house and now they are 10 weeks pregnant, SURPRISE. *F.M.L. I feel terrible bc I asked DH if he was ok and he said "yeah, I'm just sad for you bc I know you compare us to every couple out there getting pregnant." I know he's sad but he won't let himself be because he's worried about me.

So if I get off the couch this weekend it's gonna be a miracle. We were supposed to go to a graduation party for some of DHs younger cousins tomorrow but I am definitely passing on that.

I am waiting for DH to get home before we head up to my parents lake house.  I am not really excited because the weather isn't looking so great and we're really only going for moral support for my parents.  My cousin and his wife (who we can't stand) and all their kids/step kids/dog will be there and it will be brutal but I am hoping we can make the best of it.

Also, my second EDD is Sunday and I don't know how that is going to go.  I am hoping that I will be distracted and it will be ok but who knows.  I was actually doing fine and got a little emotional yesterday at dinner.  We were talking about baby names (which obviously is a horrible trigger) and it just made me so sad to think we may never get to use one.  We didn't know the gender of our first but we did for the second and part of me wishes we gave that baby a name, instead of referring to it as 'baby' or 'it'.

@BornReady that is so sweet of you and your DH!  And probably so much fun too.  We always do kids/family for Christmas and then try to do something over the summer, but I'll have to look into kids who need back-to-school things.

@Taggarab I know, summer is way too much :(

@fivetimesnoluck let me know how Ghostbusters is!  I was trying to convince DH to see it, but he was a little unsure.  I am usually a good sport and see all the movies he likes because I can go with girlfriends to the chick flicks, but my one regular movie friend just had a baby and I know we won't be back to that lil the fall.

@SnobunnieMel I love cleaning lady day!

@chloe97 that sounds like fun!  Where in SW Michigan do you go, the St. joe area?  I am in Metro Detroit so I don't get to that side very often, but it's so beautiful!

@roxgibbons um SOO jealous!  I really want to plan a Jackson Hole/Yellowstone trip for next year.  Enjoy!!

@SoonToBeMommaHowe haha I am right there with you, no running for me.  I will do the elliptical, walk, but no running.  I swam and played water polo for many years and find that running is so much harder on my joints.

  • @Aera11 We are near South Haven. Where is your parent's lake house? I've bee obsessively checking the weather and weather.con is saying rain Sat and Sun and accuweather says clear on Sunday. Praying we get good weather. I'm so sorry about your EDD coming up. We named our 2nd loss and I'm glad we did. We don't tell other people what her name is. It's just for us. Good luck this weekend. I hope the day goes by quickly and you feel some peace.
  • I hope you all have good weekends.

I am am so glad it is a weekend. This week has been exhausting and I have been more emotional. Couple nights ago I just felt overwhelmed and ended up crying off and on for two hours. I think the dh felt guilty he spent a couple of hours cleaning house while I was at work.

My my plans for this weekend are prepare a presentation for a training I am facilitating on Friday, clean house, and to go to dinner with a group of friends tomorrow night. I am very thankful for them and that none of them are pregnant. ;)

@Amdogger82 I'm a big nerd about Rotary! Our club is just 4 years old and our members are essentially all under 50... It's a great group! We have a lot of fun. I'll be president next year (a job I accepted the last time I was KU, assuming all this TTC business would be behind me in 2017.... Now, not so sure!), so I go to a lot of things.

For everyone else, I'll let y'all know how the movie is. I usually hate going to the theater but DH will literally watch anything and loves the theater, so if I want to go, he's always excited!

  • We're basically having a "staycation" this weekend, which also involves getting a bunch of stuff done so that maybe we can go on a real vacation one day lol But honestly, I'm enjoying it way more than I would have a poorly planned camping trip and wedding/basically just a big party that would have ended up being a very expensive weekend! It probably would have been fun, too, but the bummer part is we had over $1000 worth of stuff stolen recently that DH is still working on replacing on top of all the stuff the new house needs (moving = expensive!)

But we're absolutely making the best of it and I got most of my "chores" done so I get to soak up the sun today and hopefully finish my book :) I'm loving the alone time with my hunny until he leaves again Tuesday morning <3
  • Aera11Aera11 member
@chloe97 we are in the thumb, so Caseville/Port Austin.  Our weather wasn't really beach weather today but hopefully tomorrow will be better.  South Haven is so nice!  I haven't been there in forever. I am hoping I will be okay tomorrow; I really didn't even think about my due date today until a few hours ago when my cousins were talking about babies.  It's crazy to think how both EDD have come and gone and I am so thankful to have this board because infertility + loss are a lonely, lonely journey.  And we would be like you, if we named that baby, it would be purely for us.  We didn't even share the gender with anyone except my mom and then I told one girlfriend.  Hope your weather has been better than ours!
  • @Aera11 Sunday and Monday ended up being heavenly, but Saturday sucked!! I'd love to explore the Michigan coast more, but DH is against going other places in MI when we have a place for free to stay! We love South Haven too. My ILs family have been coming here for almost 100 years which is crazy. I'm glad your EDD went okay. I was surprised that I wasn't more upset the day of mine.

So glad you had a few nice days @chloe97!  I know, my DH is from Savannah and I want to take him around Michigan a bit more (he has done GR, Traverse City and Mackinac Island now) but it's hard when summer is so short and we have a free place to stay.  And thank you.  I had a harder time yesterday but I am doing better today.  I hate the emotional back and forth, it can't be good for my mental health!  Yeah, my first EDD wasn't that hard for some reason.
