Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Baby not satisfied after feeding?

My little one will be three months on the 11th, and he's currently drinking 4-5oz of formula every 3.5-4 hours (I would just like to add that I wasn't able to breastfeed due to multiple reasons, my heart was so set on it but I did what's best for me and my son). It seems like he's still hungry after each feeding! I plan to talk to his pedi about it next week, but I was hoping some of you have some advice/similar issues? I don't want to over feed him. Please and thank you!

Re: Baby not satisfied after feeding?

  • If he's not satisfied try giving him and extra .5-1 ounce in the bottle.  Maybe he's just not full enough?  My little guy started drinking 6oz of formula every 3 hours shortly after he hit the 3 month mark (he's almost 4 months now).  We upped him for the same reason, he just didn't seem satisfied after eating.  If the little bit extra doesn't help def talk to the doctor.

  • You can't really over feed. He'll spit up what he doesn't want. Just try giving a little more and see how it goes.

    Feed him more.
My baby drinks/was drinking 6oz of BM 6 times a day at that age.
  • Try about a half ounce more. My 13wk LO takes 5 oz every 2-2.5 hours of either formula or BM. 4 oz just wasn't cutting it and she's generally satisfied after 5.
  • My pedi told me to add a little bit of rice cereal to the bottle to help fill her up. She can eat up to 7/8 oz in one feeding. And I was so sore through her last growth spurt I used pump milk to mix a bottle. Formula works too with mixing in the rice cereal.

I'm surprised that a pediatrician would recommend this as in most cases it is not, especially with a baby under 4 months of age.
  • @SmrBrd2012 she said it was ok as long as I wasn't giving more than 1-2 teaspoons a day and I only did it at her bedtime feeding.
