At my last appt, my doctor told me she wants me to have another ultrasound at 36 weeks. The US is scheduled for next Wednesday. They called me today to confirm it and informed me that this was a growth ultrasound to check and see if I'll need to be induced early because he's been huge this whole pregnancy.
Got checked at my appointment this morning, I'm only dilated to a 1, but Johnny's position, quoted verbatim from the medical professional is "Whoa, he's RIGHT THERE". Anytime now, ladies. I reckon I oughtta quit farting around now and get everything situated... HyperNesting Mode Engage.
@AllyTheKid It's quite possible! I went in for my checkup after having what I thought was BH all night last night. I'm dilated to 1cm, baby head has dropped, and I was having mild contractions every 8 minutes on the fetal monitor. The OB basically said not to go to work and to be ready for baby. I thought I had all this time, and now I don't! Auuuugh!
@von1976 I never dilated at all on my own with my other babies, I always had to get things going with pitocin so now I'm nervous I don't know what to expect, does it happen fast? Does it take days? Weeks? For a BTDT mom twice over, I don't know shit!
Omg @AllyTheKid and @von1976 I can't believe that! I get checked Thurs so we'll see...more babies could be lighting up our announcement board any time now I guess!
It's exciting, but concerning as well... I'm only 36 weeks, LO was born at 38 weeks, and even being only two weeks early he had respiratory issues had to stay in the NICU so it makes me a bit nervous.
Oh, I missed so much!! Everyone has already said this but @mkc3888 SQUEEEEEEE! So precious @AllyTheKid and @von1976 Yikes!! I have been having a lot of cramping and contractions this past week and am super nervous about my current status - will find out at my appointment (which is in 4.5 hours, eek!)
@AllyTheKid I was dilated 2 cm at 33 weeks last pregnancy (no idea what I was before that since that was the first time they checked) and made it to 39 weeks, so it is possible to be dilated for quite a while before active labor starts. I feel the same way about not knowing anything, though, because my water broke in a very obvious gushing fashion before I felt any contractions with my first and now I've been having uncomfortable contractions for days and I have no idea how to know if I'm in labor unless my water breaks. I'm hoping that's what happens. I don't want to give birth at home. My toddler would not make a good doula.
I actually am timing contractions before I pull the pin and call my mom to watch my girls and go to the hospital. H isn't home yet from work. So I hope to have it decided if I need to go or not by the time he gets home. Its normal for me to have a lot of Braxton hicks but baby has been insane active today, I kinda wonder if something is up.

@mkc3888 she is so beautiful, I'm so jelly you have your little mama already !! @AllyTheKid@von1976 you could stay dilated for awhile or it could just keep progressing and you'll have your little monsters out too ! Whew am I glad September is here !! I was doing the math on all my other kids due dates vs birthday's and they are all 2 weeks early so I give myself until the first 2 weeks in October but I've been feeling the burn down below and last night I had some strong BH .. the strongest ever and I'm getting my cervix checked next week !! So psyched
@Schell2013 so nerve wrecking and exciting. I was feeling the same way today with LO moving and the BH contractions... I guess I made the right choice not to go because I'm still home and they chilled out a bit. Hope everything is going well
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THE BABIES ARE COMING! THE BABIES ARE COMING!
Should a labor thread be started? Like for people to let us know if they are admitted to the hospital? Or does everyone make their own? How does this work?
Ooh @AllyTheKid did they say why he was having respiratory issues despite being 38w? I didn't mean to sound naively excited bc obviously no one wants a preemie or even term baby having health problems. I just couldn't believe that we aren't that far away from some babies being done cooking and ready to come on their own. I always find it so curious how on some announcements babies are early and do just fine, some in NICU despite being full term, etc.
@kmolleltz no clue how this works! I didn't see labor threads on other boards, might have just overlooked something if it was right in front of me, but I assume that's the whole point of labor buddies updating the board, since no one should be writing anything else in birth announcements?
@ignoscemihi@mommabear444 I'm hoping to just stay dilated for a while then! My water broke with LO, but I still had to be induced and never actually went into labor on my own so I am completely in the dark. @UponAStar16 Sorry to sound like a Debbie Downer, there is nothing wrong with being excited! He was just a little fella and his lungs just weren't quite ready is all. Every baby is different so Johnny could come early and be a perfect little champ for all I know!
All of the labor threads I have seen have been started solely for all things labor related. Maybe we start that thread and give a place for labor buddies to post, people to ask questions, people to post updates, etc? This thread is already 16 pages long and there is about to be a TON of labor talk. Just my 2 cents.

I agree we should have a labor thread for all of this. Otherwise it's gonna get realllllyyyy crazy!

True, and we might feel silly posting here about realizing any day could be our last quick run into the Dunkin Donuts that doesn't have a drive-thru, while other people are posting about shit getting really real moments

yeah that's what I was thinking. This is already a super long thread!
@AllyTheKid despite being a TTM myself, I've never gone into labor on my own either. I was just freaking out last week about not knowing what to do if I did go into labor on my own, lol. Both of my other babies were induced at 39w 1d so I should just do the same with this one so I know what to expect. Haha!
About when to actually call/go to the hospital: If you're having contractions, definitely time them (both how far apart as well as duration of each one). My Bradley coach recommends try changing positions, eating, drinking a couple glasses of water, taking a little walk, and/or a shower or bath- if the contractions stop, you are probably not in real active labor and can wait a while longer.
Obviously if you are feeling really off, not feeling baby at all, or are significantly too early to safely deliver, call your OB.
Definitely ask your dr what their protocol is for calling in. Mine said 1) contractions 5 minutes apart for 45 min-1 hour, 2) water breaks, 3) period like bleeding.
My co-workers granddaughter who was due a week after me had her son on Sunday. Both seem to be doing well. (She was 33 weeks.) Another set of friends were due 9/6, they had their little girl yesterday. So precious and I'm so jealous!
We met our doula over last weekend, and she gave me a lot of confidence that I might be able to get through this whole labor thing without meds. I mean if I'm miserable, I'm not going to say no, but it'd be cool to not have to.
Baby boy finally has all his clothes washed and put away, and his pack and play is up and ready for him in our room. Bag is about 60% packed, but all necessities are in there like his going home clothes, hair ties, some clothes for me, etc...
Countdown to Baby H! Mommy to Elizabeth (6/18/09), preemie at 34 weeks
It's so weird. Training people on what I consider my baby of my job. I feel like I am quitting or something and not coming back. I'm having people be responsible for stuff that I usually sign off on. I'm having a hard time with this today for some reason.
Right @mizzkbrat ? I'm being really weird about my work too because I just don't believe anyone can do a great job at it. I won't even be gone for that long.
I had this sudden urge to pack my hospital bag. Like the I need to do it NOW. I did have it packed but now I don't cause I went to a wedding over a weekend and needed that bag. So now I gotta start over kinda. Plus I've had the shits for 3 days now. I hope no baby for 10 more days cause otherwise I have to go deliver at a hospital that's further away, really not up for that.

My diaper bag is slightly packed, everything I want for baby is in the bassinet. We still have 6 weeks but can really go at any point now especially since I just had more bleeding this week. But I know we don't actually need anything yet if we did have the baby. But I did also put a few items for me like my nursing bras and my new bathrobes for the hospital incase we do end up delivering.
also I met with the NICU team while in the hospital- just in case. I feel it hasn't hit me that we could have a NICU baby, and I don't really have any questions for them because it all changes week to week. But they did give me a lot of reassurance that at this point the baby would be in a safe place medical wise and we wouldn't anticipate any major issues!
