Hi, I recently miscarried at 5 weeks. It was a surprise BFP, but DH and I were getting ready to try for a second baby (we have a 2 year old). My OB said he usually tells patients to wait a cycle before trying again, but I've read different things online. We're eager to try again this cycle if possible - does anyone have some experience or advice?
There is a wide variety of perspectives on the "how long to wait" topic. Some doctors suggest 1 cycle, some say 2, some say no need to wait. All this means to me, is that it's likely most important to do what feels right for you and DH.
I lean towards thinking that the recommended wait is more likely for emotional healing than physical, but I am certainly not a medical professional, so my opinion is just that! There has been more than one story on here of successful pregnancies that followed a loss, without waiting.
As for me, I always waited because it knocked the wind out of me each and every time and typically BD was the last thing on my mind.... so to each their own, I say....
Best of luck whatever you decide. This board is a great source of support while you work towards your next BFP!

Agree. It also depends on far along you are, if you miscarried naturally or had a D&C etc. If I were you, I'd wait one normal period and then try again. I had my 2nd MC and D&C in 6 months after a 13 week pregnancy, so I'm waiting for my lining (hopefully) to thicken up before trying again.
I too experienced a loss, but at 7 weeks. I had a natural miscarriage as it was considered a "missed miscarriage". I did not know it had stopped growing at 7 weeks and I went in for my 10 week ultrasound. The doctor told me afterwards to wait at least 1 cycle because it increases your risk of another loss if you try too soon before everything has healed.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I have experienced two losses. My first at 11 weeks and the second at 6 weeks. My doc said we didn't need to wait after the first MC but recommended waiting one cycle after the second MC.
Sending good vibes your way.
