Beta Testing August 2016

Re: Beta Testing August 2016

  • @ashley3740 and @AandDM2014 - I know some clinics charge more for ICSI, cause there are more "man hours" involved. Also, sometimes depending on what other things you have lined with with IVF, letting them naturally fertilize isn't "allowed" so the RE has to do ICSI.

In my case, since we have to do PGD testing, we have to to ICSI, cause otherwise other sperm (ones that didn't win the Great Sperm Race! lol) that were in the same petri dish could contaminate the biopsy and give inaccurate results...

  • @caseyw8784 very interesting!! Thanks for sharing. I love educating myself as much as possible about this process. Always something new to learn!

Okay y'all, I seriously CANNOT work today. I have sooo much to do, but all I can think about is what's going on inside my body. Crazy that so many life altering things could be happening inside my body right now, but my brain has no idea!! How can your brain be a part of your body, and yet be so NOT in tune with major happenings! I don't even know if that makes sense... I'm losin it! lol! ONE MORE WEEEK!

  • @babylonghorn16 - no problem! i also love educating myself as well! DH is a bit more..."just tell me what i need to do, when i need to do it, and where i need to be, and i'm good!" type of a guy. lol.

(that's not to say that he isn't supportive! though, sometimes i think when i burst into tears, he still doesn't know how to handle me...hah! I'm a book nerd and more "academically"-inclined than he is...and i think his brain just overloads, especially that first appointment where my RE talked about BOTH the genetic disorder AND ivf options, in detail...lol. i could see his eyes glazing over...)

and i'm having trouble focusing at work also! but, i actually just don't have much that needs to be worked on at the moment (most of the people on the totem pole above me are out today)...so i'm pretending to be busy and pass the time until 4:45-ish...only 3 more hours! YOU have a MUCH better excuse for being distracted!
  • @caseyw8784 my DH is the same in regard to "just tell me what to do and I'll do it". He asks A LOT of questions if he's not at the appt with me, so I always like him to be there to ask what I don't think of! And he has NO idea how to handle me when I turn into a blubbering mess. Not great at talking me down - sometimes he can be pessimistic, which is annoying, but it ultimately makes ME the one who has to be optimistic! I think right now he just feels kind of removed from everything. It's gotten better with him giving me the PIO injections... feels more part of the process. It's funny how men can react COMPLETELY different from women when in the same/similar situation!

  • @babylonghorn16 i know just what you mean! how is the real world occurring while all this is going on inside of us?

so slightly funny moment- one of my coworkers came in to ask me a question. she saw me yawning, and said you're pregnant. i said no, i'm not. she then told me yes, yes i was, that was a classic sign.  she was very adamant about it.  maybe she's psychic? ;) gotta love nosy but well intentioned people.

@ale9687  and @babylonghorn16  i've had really vivid dreams too! i always remember my dreams, but these are much more intense.

  • @gatorlorit maybe she is predicting a positive outcome! One of my grandfathers has been able to predict every recent pregnancy in my family, one cousin the day before she found out! But he usually keeps it to himself because his way of telling is bc your nose gets bigger hahah.

Also dh punched me in the face last night because he was dreaming of catching Pokemon. I think he's starting to get crazy dreams as well hahah
  • @ale9687 LOL omg!! I'm sorry, but I laughed pretty hard at that. I have done the same thing to my DH in my sleep!! Hopefully you are not hurt! ~*Pokemon struggles*~

  • @AandDM2014 and @babylonghorn16 - so excited for you both! And my beta will be right behind you...officially set for 8/10!

    Today was transfer day!!
It was a long day...acupuncture at 9, to arrive at RE at 11, transfer at 11:30...but then hit a snag. Consent form was for 1 embryo and that was all they thawed. We waffled a lot leading up to it, but had decided on 2 last week, but somehow that information didn't get back to the RE. So we had new consent forms for 2 and had to thaw the second one...but at least knew at that point that one thawed successfully! So between thaw and working back into the schedule, transfer actually happened at 2pm. Then back to acupuncture and finally home at 4:30, and parked on the couch for the rest of the day. Valium made me a little loopy for a bit so waited to post til now....but here they are!

  • @ConstanceGoodspeed Woohoo!!!! Congrats!!!!!!  Great start for our group

@cmm012 and @ale9687 Good luck tomorrow!!  Fingers crossed for some great betas.

@ale9687 I hope your grandpa's theory is just that - I already have a big nose and would prefer it not get any bigger

@babylonghorn16 I've been off the boards for a couple of days but congrats on your transfer!  Your embryo looked awesome!

@Happydays13 Congrats on being pupo!!  Your two embabies are too cute.

AFM: Transfer is set for tomorrow at 12:30!  I'm so excited.  I do feel a little guilty because I have been faithfully going to acupuncture once a week since I started IVF, but never called to schedule an appointment after I found out what time my transfer would be.  Now I'm torn.  I'm in law school and have a final on Thursday, so should I try to call the acupuncture first thing in the morning to try to schedule one in before and/or after transfer, or just let it be and use the extra time to relax and study?  I'm leaning toward just letting it be.

Do any ladies have any tricks or advice about what they will be doing (or already are) during the TWW?  I plan to keep my feet toasty all day after transfer tomorrow and eat a lot of pineapple this week.  Anyone have anything else?

Results: 3 embies passed both PGD & PGS testing (2 boys and a girl :)).
FET on 8/2/16, transferred our girl embryo.
Beta on 8/11: 124!!  Second Beta on 8/15: 1,117.  First ultrasound (7 weeks) scheduled for 8/30.
  • @Happydays13 Thank you! I'm definitely having feels in my abdomen, and a bit of nausea, but it could be the PIO so I'm not getting too excited yet. Your day sounds crazy bananas! I'm sorry you had to wait an extra 2.5 hours for another embie to thaw, but if one sticks, it will have definitely been worth it!

@cmm012 I'm definitely gonna be checking in often tomorrow to see what your number is. FX that it's nice and high!

@ConstanceGoodspeed YAY YAY YAY!!!!!!!!!! What a lovely number!

@LittleSunshine Good luck tomorrow! I hope your transfer goes smoothly! The only advice I can offer is try your best to not google anything related to pregnancy! You'll just drive yourself crazy!

AFM - We spent another evening at the Santa Monica Pier, and I really wanted fish and chips yesterday, but DH wasn't hungry enough for a sit down restaurant, so we went to Bubba Gump Shrimp Co today instead! I absolutely loathe seafood, except fish sticks and whatever they use for fish and chips fish. Embies decided that today was a good day for a little bit of fish (though I did have to acclimate to the horrid seafood smell in the restaurant). After dinner DH asked if dessert was going to be 4 scoops of ice cream: one for him and three for the embies! I laughed and told him no way!

  • @LittleSunshine Thanks! Good luck today!!! Hope everything goes smoothly! Re your question: I personally am not doing anything special in the TWW other than cutting out caffeine as much as I can (coffee addict) and the obvious abstinence from alcohol. I figure if home remedies actually worked, our doctors would have "prescribed" us. That being said, if it makes you feel better to eat pineapple, by all means, do it! There's just so many "tricks" that I got stressed out trying to do them ALL... so I decided to do nothing! :) I'm planning just to live my life as normal as possible and pray pray pray it works. GL!!!

  • How many beta blood draws does your RE do (assuming a bfp)? With my first two fresh cycles I went in twice each time, but with this FET they want me to come in for 3 betas.
    IVF/ICSI #1 - BFP, DS born Jan 2013
    IVF/ICSI #2 - BFP, DD born Feb 2015
IVF FET - BFP, due April 2017

  • @ConstanceGoodspeed - for my FET a year back they had me go in three times, but ordinarily they just do blood draws twice

    *TW* pregnancy mentioned
They had me go in more than once because my first beta was high.  They had only transferred one embryo so they were curious to monitor my levels as they were wondering if the embryo split or if anything else was going on.
  • @ConstanceGoodspeed My clinic had me do at least 3, though it may have been 4 and they just didn't tell me the number that time. Mine was a weird situation where I had a vacation scheduled already, and we left the day after the first beta, so I did one a week later, then the following week, then maybe the following week as well. I did one on my own while on vacation, just for my own peace of mind. I don't know what it'll be this time around as I don't have any out of town days planned this time. I would guess 3.

AFM - I had my halfway hormone check today, still waiting for results. I'd love if I could already start reducing, but I highly doubt it. Only 5 more days!

@babylonghorn16 - I feel you! This week is moving at a snails pace and I'm only 1dpt!

I thought waiting for a retrieval date was hard, but the 5 days after to see how many made it to freeze was even tougher, then harder still was the 2 weeks for PGS...
then waiting for a transfer date...but this waiting for beta is the absolute WORST!
