Accidentally finding. . possible tw

Hoping to hear from other moms that may have experienced this or know someone that may havr. I have my annual exam in January the is year and everything came back good. Fast forward to last Friday I went back to the Dr and he has found a pea sized nontender lump in my left breast, which has been super itchy the past few weeks. I know the odds are that everything is OK but I have a history of precancerous lumps and begin cysts on my mom's side of the family. Please share any experiences good or bad. Thanks in advance mommas!

  • I think someone on the board actually JUST had a biopsy and it was found to be a fibroid! Have you ever had fibroids before? I get them in my breasts and uterus any time there is a hormonal shift.

  • That was me! I found a lump on top of my right breast and saw my OB/gyn...he referred me to a specialist and she did a biopsy since they couldn't give me a mammogram due to being pregnant and they saw nothing on the ultrasound.  The result was fibrocystic tissue changes, likely brought on by all the hormones of being pregnant.

Definitely get checked out at a breast care center if you can.  I know it's scary as hell but with something like that you don't want to sit on it and wait.

Please keep us posted! Will be thinking about you

  • @AverageAsh I have never had fibroids or anything abnormal in the past.
@ngcsugirl1112 I actually didn't find. My ob always does a full exam and work at the first appointment and he actually found it. Not gonna lie I'm always scared of checking myself bc I feel glands that make me think something is wrong, definitely won't make that mistake ever again!  He doesn't seem super concerned right now, and knows about my mom's history as he referred her to a surgeon just months ago for a lumpectomy. I will definitely keep everyone updated. I'll ask at my next appointment,  August 12, about more testing.
  • No personal history or experience here, but wanted to chime in and offer my support. Even though it's scary, keep an eye on the area, and if you notice even the slightest change let your provider know.

FX it's nothing. Sending you positive vibes and good thoughts!
  • Is the lump hard? Does it feel round?

I had a partial mastectomy/lumpectomy 6 years ago to remove some precancerous tumors from my breast. You should know that the same hormones that are causing your breasts to grow and fill with milk can also cause fibrocystic tissue in women. These are harmless but inconvenient. If the lump is hard with round edges, then this is most likely the case. Cancerous and precancerous tumors are usually softer and painless in your breasts and have very uneven edges. Regardless, you should ALWAYS get checked out!
  • A couple of years ago my doctor became concerned about a lump in my breast. After two ultrasounds, a mammogram, and a visit to a surgeon, it was determined just to be a cyst. The surgeon didn't recommend removing it, but "would if it would make me feel better". It's still there, but it hasn't bothered me since. As long as it doesn't change dramatically, we won't do anything. It's definitely easier to notice in early pregnancy. Hoping your outcome is just as harmless!

  • I'm not a doctor, but I have a fibroadenoma (benign) and it changes sizes with my hormones during my cycle, and is oval shaped and "slides around". I can press on it and my fingers will slide down it and displace it and end up next to it because it is not a rigid hard pea of my breast tissue.  I don't know if yours is like this, but I'm glad you're getting it checked out!

I had the same thing happen to me last year, but I was a nursing mother at the time. I felt a small, pea sized lump on the bottom of my left breast that didn't hurt, but definitely wasn't going away. Just like the previous post said, this kind of moved and slid around if you pressed on it, which they said was a good sign. I went to my OB and she said she was 99% sure it was just a cyst or a build-up of milk, but ordered an ultrasound anyway. The ultrasound tech/doctor also said they believed it be benign, but found "debris" in the lump which forced me to go back 3 months later. Thankfully, by that time it had gone away on its own - so they concluded it was just a water-filled cyst or had to do with a blocked milk duct. All OK! Definitely scary - good luck and it's smart to have it checked!
  • I had the same thing not long ago. No pain, no problems, just a lump I found on a self check. My dr sent me for an ultrasound and it was a cyst. I hoe hours is something equally low-risk! Fingers crossed for you!

  • Thank you everyone!  I'm definitely going to keep a close eye on it especially given my family history.  This is about pea sized and round, hard, doesn't really move, and isn't painful.  I go back August 12 but it might get moved up due to some other issues.
