Registry - Any must haves?

Re: Registry - Any must haves?

  • In regards to the carseat saver, it is not considered safe to put anything between the carseat and the seat in the car. The testing done does not include these. If you manage to find a carseat that comes with something like that then you are probably ok to use it (Definitely read the instruction manual) because most likely it was tested with it. Same goes for the shoulder pads and anything inserted in to the carseat between baby and seat. If the carseat doesn't come with it, it probably is not considered safe for use. Most carseats come with shoulder pads and the instruction manual will tell you whether it's ok to remove them during use and maintain the same safety. The cutesy one's sold in the stores are not generally recommended. Always be sure you double check the chest clip placement. Ok, that's my carseat soap box for today, in general, do yourself a favor and research car seat safety before baby arrives.

  • I second the high chair point.  I hate cleaning our Graco high chair.  I thought it was awesome because it matches the pack n play, infant carrier and stroller.  It's a freaking pain.  The cushion comes off and won't stay connected, food gets in weird crevices in the plastic and fabric.  I loathe it.  I feel like it's never clean.

  • My first son was 6 lbs 11 oz and his NB clothes were actually very big on him. My mom had to go to the store to get us Preemie sizes. Then he wore NB clothes for quite a while. My other son was 8 lbs 0 oz and still wore NB sizes for at least the first month. I would definitely have some NB sizes...

  • I guess my Graco high chair does have one redeeming quality.  It's height is adjustable; my son now sits in his high chair but we use our dining table instead of the tray.  We had to lower the chair so his shins didn't hit the edge of the table but now his knees are below it.  We'll probably take the seat off and use it as a booster soon, that's a plus too.  It's just never really clean because of all the fabric and crevices where food gets stuck.

  • @sagoon thank you for posting that high chair! I'm so sick of my graco getting gross with food on the cushion and in the crevasses. I'm totally selling it now and getting this bad boy.

  • @AlabamaRedhead I love that chair! My mom's friend came by the other day to give me "pre-shower" gifts so that everyone didn't know how much she really got at the shower haha and that was one of them. My husband is obsessed with it, he keeps it out to show everyone!

  • @sagoon that is the one we ended up with as well and I love it.  It is a wonderful change and takes me about 30 seconds to clean it up when my son is finished eating.  Granted, I usually let the dog clean up the floor so that helps but it is a time saver.

Our kitchen is oddly shaped and the actual section designated for cooking isn't huge so its nice that the chair can stay in there without getting in the way.
  • @BriannaE129129  you'll be amazed how great it is. Just hanging outside on the patio is so much easier! Holidays, I could put baby at the table and not have to hold him, he had his own little portable seat. Anytime we used it people were like OMG What is that?!!? I bought it myself and am so glad I did, this one will use it just as much!

  • @AlabamaRedhead Thank you for sharing. We may have to look in to that. I hate going to my IL's or SIL's because they aren't set up for babies. Something like that would make meal time so much easier because DS does not like to eat when on my lap. And we are short chairs at the IL's so my portable booster is tough some times. We will need both a booster and a high chair when this baby comes around so it may be worth the purchase. I didn't know they existed.

  • Bringing this back up to the top because it's so helpful! My shower is 11/5 and my mom is on our case to finish our registries before invitations go out in the next two weeks. I have a feeling a lot of us will be putting in serious work on registries soon and this helped me so much. Also the baby is up kicking and I feel like I'm at least being productive while laying here.

Is there anything anyone one would advise avoiding on the registry? I know I saw stuffed animals and infant towels mentioned. Anything else?

Any other advice anyone has?? I've read so much on registry suggestions the last month or so I thought I'd be good, but once I sit down to do it I'm lost! haha

A lot of people will wait until closer to the shower to buy gifts so don't feel rushed to finish the registry before the invites go out.

  • @christac1010 from my past showers I have found that most people are attracted to buying toys, books, clothes and bath items. Especially if they are cute. If you put any of these on your list just make sure it is something you really want/need and not a whim because chances are someone will buy it. Unfortunately practical items like diapers, wipes, gas drops, thermometers are often passed over for the cute things. It is still the thought that counts though and who doesn't like cute?
  • One thing that my husband and I found EXTREMELY helpful was (I can't remember the name) videos made by an Austrailian lady who has photographic hearing and singled out five sounds that newborns make universally and decoded their meanings.  Hungry, tired, uncomfortable, needs to burp and gassy.  There are always cues before sound but the sound breakdown is very helpful.

We found these videos on You Tube but I don't know if they're still there.

  • Baby Einstein!! This may not be a must for a registry, but it was a life saver with my baby brother,  and I've heard the same with other parents. It's like baby crack.

I am definitely getting the videos. I swear, any time he was fussy or crying, didn't matter. Once we turned on those videos he was in a trance. LOL

Oh, zipper footie pajamas are the best.  We stopped buying the snaps very early on.  When you're bleary eyed, lining up the snaps seems like a torturous joke.

Stuck in quote box. Absolutely this^^^  I threw out all button pjs!!

  • Oh, if you travel a lot, this thing is awesome! A portable High Chair.
